Ripping Wax:2021 Playoff Football Blaster Box

Football season is officially over, but, football card season is not. It appears many releases were pushed off until so I am just getting my first look at them via retail.

Before I show off one of the newest releases, I must admit I lost the picture I had of the blaster box so you will have to deal with without it. I can tell you that every blaster box comes with 8 cards per pack and 7 cards per pack. Oh wait, Panini misprinted the box...I see. Each blaster does though come with 56 cards in the box so there's that. Each box is $27.98 and comes with an autograph or relic card per.

Here were the rookie card finds in my box highlighted by Kellen Mond.

There are also three Kickoff Parallels per box as well. Matt Ryan wasn't a terrible find.

One thing I have always liked about this product is the fact they have chromed inserts and these chromed inserts also have parallels. I was happy to find a Mahomes for the PC above.

Cam Newton (you would think a late season release would have him back in his Panthers uniform, guess not.

woowooww. I really liked the Rookie Wave insert. This one is actually a red parallel. I have a couple coming of Kadarius Toney you can view on Big Blue Cardboard soon.

The hit in my box was this Turning Pro relic card of Kellen Mond. Not too bad, maybe the future in Minnesota?

Thoughts on this box break and product is welcomed below in comments.

Breakin' Wax:2015 Rookies and Stars Longevity

Football season is approaching fast, so it's only suiting that I start showing off more football cards on here starting today with a break I did last Christmas.

My wife went Black Friday shopping online for me last year looking out for the best deals out there without breaking the bank. Not one box she bought me was even close to $100, actually all were under $50 and all were bought from a place I haven't really paid much attention to before in Steel City Collectibles.

I am missing the box pic for today's post, but imagine a hobby box of football cards that had 5 hits in it all for $35. Yes, it wasn't 2020. Yes, it doesn't have the red hot rookies everyone was looking for. But, it was something to open and it was football cards. Also was a product I hadn't opened which also meant all of the cards were new to me.

So here is what to expect in every 6 pack box with 10 cards per pack.

- On average 5 autographs or memorabilia cards per box
- 12 Longevity Rookies
- 2 Longevity Rookie Team Logo Types
- 2 Longevity Veteran Team Logo Types
- 2 Crusade
- 1 Crusade Rookie
- 1 Longevity Star Studded Die Cuts
- 1 Longevity Progression
- 1 Longevity Rookie Jersey
- 1 Longevity Rookies & Stars Embroidered Patches

Some key rookies,

Parallels,
/299

/299

/299

/25

Inserts with some fun unique die cuts,

Red /99

(huge fan of the crusades)

Now onto the hits,

Only one autograph out of five hits.

Not too bad of a box break. Mariota looked improved for the Raiders and was rumored to be starter for a good portion of the end of last season. But, he will be riding the bench again. Amari Cooper has been playing great every season whether for the Raiders or Cowboys.

A lot of this I used for trade bait already which in return lands me something I want more. So it was a fun bust and helped me land something I need more.

The other boxes I will show off soon. Most likely those will be on over Cards Over Coffee.

Chasing Lamar:2018 Panini Football Blaster Box

Here I am at it again. Chasing Lamar. Nothing like the 1997 movie flick Chasing Amy. Don't get them confused.

This time I went a different box even though I should have tried another one of those Donruss blaster boxes for the price it was at.

This time let's rip a Blaster box of 2018 Panini football blaster. This one went for $20 just like in retail.

Panini Blue Knight parallel.

Great player canvas rookie of Roquan Smith

Hines canvas rookie

Watson insert

Earl Thomas insert. It's still weird seeing him in a Ravens uniform.

Alvin Kamara has had a down year with injuries but he could turn it on just in time for the playoffs

Harold Landry blue knight canvas

PC! Well, Odell Beckham Jr Lightspeed. I wished he was still in this offense with Daniel Jones and the other young talent. However, I don't miss the drama

And my hit from this box, a Matt Ryan Honored jersey. Great job with design on this one I say.

No Lamar action again, or even my boy Saquon. Oh well, it was still a fun rip and pulled some okay cards.

And I got to see my favorite part of Panini football, the action photos. Here is a gallery of some of my favorites from this rip to leave ya til next Chasing Lamar!

REVIEW:2018 Playoff Football

Playoff football is back 90's fans! Much different layout than the 90's. It's even double the amount of hits from 2017. Instead of two, this years has four. I actually think that's the better layout and might attract more collectors to it.

This is my first break of it since it's return so let's see how that goes.
In every box of 2018 Playoff football there are 12 packs of 8 cards per pack. Boxes have two autographs and two memorabilia cards per box. Boxes run about $100 so not bad for the amount of hits. I would rather take a risk here for that price with 96 cards per box instead of a higher end product with only 7 cards.

The base set is 300 cards. 200 of those are veterans and 100 are rookies. The design is pretty simple but has some nice photographs.

The rookie photos are from the rookie photo shoot. (no Barkley in my box)

There are also parallels to find as well in the product as with any product.  I pulled two 1st downs /99 (Garoppolo and Sutton) and one 3rd down /25 of Coutee.

Then this /10 Fourth Down of Julius Peppers.

Inserts include the following parallels, Gold, and Touchdown 1/1.

The inserts in Playoff are reminiscent of those from the 90's. They all look great and I was really happy with the insert finds here with all of the rainbow shine foil. The layouts and design were well done too. Probably the best inserts I have seen Panini do yet.

Playoff Heroes:

Rookie Wave: (I want the Barkley!!)

Hidden Gems:

Air Command:

Thunder and Lightning:

Star Gazing:

Now onto the hits.

Accolades of Matt Ryan

Turning Pro. Nice four color patch of DJ Chark Jr.

Nice! Another Sony Michel find! The autograph cards are thick like a jersey card vs the thinner base.

And a Rookie Ticket autograph preview from Contenders. Playoff has a few preview autograph products such as Contenders and Optic. This one is /24 because it's a variation of Dolphins RB Kalen Ballage.
Other hits not found in my box but could be in yours include,
  • Rookies Autographs Red Zone
  • Rookies Autographs Touchdown
  • Rookie Autograph Variations
  • Rookie Autograph Variations 4th Down
  • Game Day Signatures
  • Hall of Fame Autographs
  • Touchdown Tandems Autographs
  • Contenders Preview Rookie Ticket Autograph
  • Donruss Optic Rated Rookie Autograph Bronze
  • Game Day Memorabilia
  • Rookie Stallions Memorabilia
OVERALL: A fun product overall. Nice looking base set to chase, some big hits await and most of all finally some nice looking inserts. All of which I would build a set of if I was looking at sets currently. Right now I have enough other projects but who knows, maybe I will return to it.

The product is also pretty affordable for four hits and also comes in retail box form at $40 and two hits including one autograph. Rookie cards however are not plentiful in the product as I found I got veterans 3:1 over rookie cards.

However, if you don't want to fork out the money, I think for a product like this it's best to stick with a box break and I strongly recommend using Midwest Box Breaks for your breaking needs. THEY HIT ME A HUGE CARD in this product and I can't wait to show it off. They are always hitting the big pulls so if they are currently breaking this, you could put yourself in a good spot.

Please thank Panini America and Tracy Hackler for providing this box for me to review to giveaway some of the hits in my Christmas giveaway!! Please follow them on all social media sites and visit their website for all your card needs, HERE.
