Chasing Lamar:2018 Classics Football Blaster Box #1

We are back for Part One of Two for the Chasing Lamar finales. Both will be blaster boxes of 2018 Classics football.

So let's get this going!

I found a two blaster box lot for $26 on eBay. That's $13 a box which I found worth it no matter the results. So far this appears to be the last year of Classics football as they switched it up to Legacy which I don't think Collectors were huge on. Classics had a great following.

Rookies are not easy finds in this box. Three per box! THREE. Odds were against me and I didn't win. However I did add a Carter for my PC, a decent one in Miller and a Jefferson I can send to my buddy Nate

And my box hit, a Melvin Gordon Saturday Swatches. I really like the throwback feel of the hit and it matches the rest of the product nicely. Sometimes brands can not follow suit all the way through, they did here.

Overall, not too shabby for $13 I don't think. Big named players in the inserts and the hit was a good player.

Chasing Lamar:2018 Donruss Football Blaster Box

Okay, Okay, I know, I know. I once again got sucked into the hype of the hobby, first with hunting down Zion, which I still haven't landed and now it's Lamar Jackson.

I think the Lamar hype became real again for me after I traded away my best two cards of him so I wanted to replace those with something and was hoping to do so by ripping some packs. This isn't going to be the only blaster box in this mini series. There are four.

Did I have any luck with them? Did I pull it in this one? Well check it out below,

I landed this blaster box for $15 shipped which is pretty solid knowing how much Lamar has gone up.

And we have a no. No Lamar in this break and not even a NY Giant or Saquon rookie. But Anthony Miller was a great find along with Michel. He is putting up solid numbers.

No Giants to be found here.

My red Press Proof was a QB, just not Lamar. It's Kirk Cousins which if far from Lamar.

Well, there are a few decent cards in here so it wasn't a complete bummer. I really like the look of those Matthew Berry inserts and there was really a low risk/high reward with this box break. I also have been a fan of Donruss football since Panini has done it so that's fine with me as well.

Area 40 Has Some Superstars!

During Wes' retirement tour-formerly blogger of Jay Barker Fan blog and now runs a last big hurrah blog in Area 40-he has been unloading packages onto bloggers for goodbye gifts.

I can't tell you what this card is, but I love it. I don't care if a corner is missing. It's vintage it's apart of it's heritage. There are a couple more of these to showcase soon. Anyone help me identify these? I really don't know my vintage very well.

Kirk Cousins rookie card. Is this the guy to lead the Vikings to the Super Bowl? I hope not. Giants play in the NFC.

Gold parallels of the great Randy Moss-who never looks right in the 49ers uniform-and Caaaaaam!

More Jimmy G rookie cards. His stuff has been hot, hot, hot! I am just glad to have some of his rookies now.

Here are the Huards I mentioned above. I remember finding him in packs of '99 product but surprisingly didn't have these. Nice additions. All are numbered.

My man Kurt Warner!

The one 90's Spx set I am not chasing. I liked Finite but this would be a tough challenge when all of the cards are numbered. Not to mention the point of my chase is the holograms and these don't have em.

There was lots of Buzz surrounding Warrick and he didn't quite live up to all of it.

One that did and got booed by Philly media if I remember right was Donovan. This guy was talented and could play with the best.

A group of big name players. Carr is coming into his own, Luck will hopefully play some games, Peterson, well is probably on the way out and Tebow has had success in another sport.

Eddie George will to me always be an Oiler and Titan. Guy was really good and is on my autograph need list. The one blemish with him, he decided to stay in the league a tad too long like other 90's stars and disappeared in Dallas.

This OJ Simpson card is Swell. No really it is.

Ike Hilliard relic. Nice looking card and one that I missed the first time rummaging through the box.

And we finish up this part with a couple of doozies. Love me some refractor parallels from 1997 Bowman's Best.

 

This is still not the end of the box or close to it. We still have a few parts to go. More awesomeness awaits us on our journey!

Review: Topps Magic Football 2012 Blaster Box

After seeing many hits from this product, including retail, I knew I had to get my hands onto some. The only way I could get it was in blaster form.

Here are my thoughts.....

Box Break Down:

• 8 Packs Per Box
• $20 a Box 

BASE CARDS: Topps sometimes colorful cartoonish looking base card designs don't usually work. They used it in both high end and low end products. I prefer real photography and action shots. But in this case for this kind of product its attractive. The base design in general is. With the lack of gloss as well these cards would only look good done this way.

INSERTS:  Other than anything in chrome style setting, minis are also a favorite of mine. They fall almost one per pack. There are also mini black bordered versions like the Stafford one we pulled that fall 1:24 packs. The other inserts were really lacking in design. They were extremely lame and very unexciting to pull. They remind of something you would use as a subset and not an insert. However, when pulling the Blackmon Rookie Enchantment that was a pretty impressive card. The photo has a purple frame around it. The picture is embedded. Very attractive card and this picture does not do it justice.

AUTOGRAPHS: N/A though the odds are in your favor at 1:25

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS:N/A

OVERALL THOUGHTS: With odds of pulling an auto at a rate of 1:25, minis, rookie cards, for the $20 its worth the risk. I would also assume the rack packs for $10 would also be worth the price as well. Other than the lack of design on the inserts, very well done product by Topps.
