Some Giant Adds!

As long as you didn't read my blog post title too fast, you would see that I have some Giant adds recently and not anything related to the Kardashians title you may have seen.

All of today's cards came via trade.

Hall Of Famer Michael Strahan jersey card came via a trade with Shane from Cheap Wax Wednesday fame.

Same with this Ottis Anderson autograph. I should see how many of these I have now.

 

I stared at this Phil Simms autograph for weeks that someone had for trade on Twitter. I wanted to bite, but didn't think I could pull it off...but obviously I did. This is only my second autograph of Simms in my collection.

 

Along with the Simms tagged this Darius Slayton Optic Stars parallel. Really cool looking card.

I was pretty happy about adding these thicc cards. Yes, that may have been a joke bounced off from my opening line for today's post.

Shiny And Numbered

My recent trade with Shane from Cheap Wax Wednesday gave me some shiny and numbered Giants cards.

Up first,

A Kadarius Toney Prestige Pink parallel /50. I started a rainbow chase of these, but then backed off from it. Rainbow chasing is very finicky and unless you are set in your mind of chasing one, then don't bother.

Prince Amukamara green parallel from Bowman Platinum /499. I wished Prince could had proven more for the Gmen, but he had some success afterwards, It seems to be a Giant way of things.

Kyle Lauletta was supposed to be the Eli Manning replacement, so wasn't Davis Webb and so wasn't Daniel Jones. I am not sure when the Giants will find their next QB. It could be Jones still, but almost feels unlikely at this point. I would love to bring in a proven veteran whether that's through Free Agency or trade. Come on Russell Wilson!!

 

And finally, speaking of QB's, the Giants also went through a really rough dry spell after this guy retired before finding their next Super Bowl winning QB. I must also note, I can't ever say no to a Collectors Edge parallel.

Lightning Strike

Despite being a Top 10 pick, a Super Bowl MVP, 2x Super Bowl champ, 2x Pro Bowler, almost 200 career TD passes, and owning more than 10 NY Giants team records, Phil Simms doesn't quite get the hobby respect you would think he has earned.

Most Simms cards you can add to your collection for pretty much next to nothing for his accolades, that's even in comparison to my Rodney Hampton collection that is more costly.

This beautiful autograph you see above, $10. Yes, you read it right, I landed it for $10. I thought I had a steal but comparing it to other Simms autographs, it seems I am right in the same ballpark range as most of his autographs go for $40 and under. That once again is mind blowing to me.

Even though my favorite Giants QB will always be Eli, I will always welcome Phil Simms cards and autograph cards when they come at a cost like this.

Giants Cardboard:My First Breakdown of 2021

 

Gavin from Baseball Card Breakdown blog and I usually do many PWE trades over the years but the last couple we, mostly I have been slacking. Not sure why because Gavin always sends some great stuff in return and somehow finds Giants cards I don't have. 

It simply must be the fact I don't always know what to send. Hopefully I will figure that out soon so I can keep getting these fun exchanges going with Gavin.

I didn't have the Phil Simms to kick off this post and same goes for Justin Pugh rookie Chrome refractor right here either.

Sometimes I forget that Ron Dayne (1st round pick) and Tom Brady (6th round pick) came out of the same draft. The Giants first round pick in Dayne didn't quite pan out as hoped, unlike that later pick Brady guy, but had his bright spots. I have never seen this rookie of him, though I do own some 2000 Ultra, and I dig it. Love that years design and photography.

I keep hoping for a healthy full year Sterling Shepard where he just blows away the field. You sometimes can see the talent and then he just gets lost. Just like Evan Engram, I hope Shepard can show what he can do in 2021.

One guy that always came to play was Amani Toomer. This guy was completely underrated in the NFL putting up some solid numbers even with some of the QB's he had to play with.

And to finish this mail day, a new Eli for the chase.

MMMB:Surprise! I Sent You This!

 

The hobby if full of great people that you either find or find you or maybe is you, at least you hope.

Today's mail day was thanks to @NickKorora who I met on my 90'sSportCards Twitter account. Which go follow if you haven't yet. We have had a few exchanges on and off via trades and just mail days in general and not too long ago I got one from him that was completely unexpected.

He sent a great variety of 90's NY Giants items that started off with a couple of Starting Lineups.

The first one was Super Bowl winning QB Phil Simms, the other, 

is one of the greatest to ever play on defense, LT.

These will make great additions to the mancave. I am still in need of the three Rodney Hampton versions I hope to land at some point.

This was just the beginning of surprises!

He also sent this pack of hockey cards, stay tuned for the break of it and a new series coming up!

A generous stack of NY Giants cards from early 90's to some later and even a couple from now. There was way too many to show off so I narrowed it down to some.

LT I didn't have. Can't go wrong adding many LT's.

I have never seen these, really cool card and concept. I would chase a base set if it looked like this.

 

And a couple more Ikes. Can't go wrong with any cards of any player during 1995-1999 for me but when they are Giants it's extra special.

Dear Eli Manning,
Thank you. Thanks for 16 years of being the face of the NY Giants franchise. Thank you for two amazing Super Bowl wins over the hated Patriots. Thank you for your leadership.  Thank you also for that final memorable win vs Miami, a moment that Big Blue fans won't soon forget.

I hope you know how much you meant to me and other Giants fans. Through the good and the bad, we bELIeved in you. Thank you for making me be proud to be a NY Giants fan.

It was another difficult season for the Giants who finished 4-12, even though the record is better than they played, as they had a lot of young players including a new QB in Daniel Jones who stepped in for the 16 year veteran Eli Manning.

It was a moment I knew and could tell the last few years was coming, I wasn't quite ready to let go of Eli, yet. But, I knew it was time with the team struggles including Eli's the last few years. It was time to turn the page on what was an incredible chapter of the Book Of Eli.

Manning was drafted 1st overall in the 2004 NFL Draft and traded for Philip Rivers, and other draft picks, who was drafted 4th overall by the Giants

Let's take a look back quickly on that trade,
The New York Giants received:
Eli Manning, QB

The San Diego Chargers received:
Philip Rivers, QB
2004 3rd-round pick (Nate Kaeding, PK)
2005 1st-round pick (Shawne Merriman, OLB)
2005 5th-round pick (traded to TB for Roman Oben, OT)

Looking back on this trade, I would take this trade again any day. Yes, Rivers has been a solid QB with better numbers than Eli most years and yes Kaeding was a decent kicker and I know that Merriman was a beast LB, but how many rings combined do they have.....wait for it....0. BIG FAT ZERO.

To me Super Bowl wins matter more than stats and it should. Eli has won two and was MVP for both. Giants couldn't have done it without him despite what some critics may say about the Giants defense winning it for them. Yes, they defense played a role, but who escaped the clutches of the Patriots in Super Bowl 42 to throw the helmet catch by to David Tyree that kept that game alive and who threw a sidelines dart to Mario Manningham to keep the drive going in Super Bowl 46? Well, it wasn't the defense that's for sure.

When it comes to my card collection, under my NY Giants PC Breakdown, you would have spotted Eli as my second biggest NY Giants PC to  with 586 total cards vs Rodney Hampton who has close to 700. I have a lot of mad respect for Eli as I have put in this post.

After Eli's last start at home as a NY Giant vs the Miami Dolphins, I decided it was time to add a couple of really nice Eli Manning cards to finish out the season.

One of those cards I have wanted since 2004 and finally acquired thanks to a trade with @Alindz99, the 2004 Upper Deck rookie.

Then at Christmas time while searching for a Eli/Danny Dimes dual auto which was way out of my pocket, I came across this Passing the Torch auto and watched it. The next day, the seller offered a discount, I got an eBay gift card from my sister in law which ate it up and with a few other extra funds from my $25 a week leftovers, I was able to bring it home.

Mind blown. By far the best Eli Manning card I own. Even best Phil Simms card I own.  I was just surprised how cheap it was listed for.

I am not sure what's next for Eli Manning. I assume his future with football on the field is done but will he follow suit with his two brothers and do some kind of pregame shows or commercials? Time will tell. For now, he will just reign as the King Of New York and I hope he will always be treated like one.

WELCOME TO MARATHON DAY:NYG PC Spotlight 112:1992 Stadium Club Phil Simms

Alright folks, it's football season and I am excited! So to celebrate today, you will be getting a heavy dose of Giants cardboard with a new post every half an hour!!! These have been posted once already over at Snagging Cardboard but I am trying to integrate those posts onto here. I know many of you don't even know about that blog or have even seen it so most likely these card posts are new to you!

Breakdown Cardboard On Vacation

For the first time in two years, I was able to go on vacation.  It was a much needed one.

My sister in law rented a cabin on a lake about an hour from where I live and we spent this whole week there. Just before I headed out to leave on the trip, I stopped by my mail box where a pwe from Gavin was waiting for me.

Instead of turning around and bringing the envelope home, I decided it would be fun to have it with me so that I could do a Blog On Location instead. A fun aspect I have never done before.

The cards inside were great, but the cards were greater. All new to me! That's tough to do when my NY Giants collection is so deep.

Evan Engram red prizm parallel. Such a great looking card all around and I tried to have the sun capture it's magic while Evan decided to take a look out over the lake.

Well, Eli and Phil both decided to take turns in the sun. Trying to get their tans after Phil passed the torch off. I truly miss the days when most inserts were numbered. Made them feel more worthy.

And Odell trying his hand at N64 which I hadn't ever played til now. Kobe Bryant's in NBA Courtside was the only game offering but still was fun.

It was a fun packed week of eating great food, relaxation, talking cardboard with a few Twitter peeps in my downtime and even went to a fun Christmas themed park for a day where I decorated Gingerbread men and rode some rides. Well, nothing special as I have motion sickness but it was still a good time.

Hope everyone else enjoyed their week and thanks to Gavin for another solid mail day.
