Rodney's Cardboard:2023 Certified Black 1/1

Today is a big day! I am showing off my final piece to my 2023 Certified autograph rainbow, the black parallel.

Thanks to my longtime friend Shane from Cheap Wax Wednesday, I was able to add this bad boy to the PC.

I am glad to put one to rest of the 2023 Rodney Hampton blowouts that Panini put out this year. I am still working on the Spectra and the Absolute rainbows. Absolute is only two away while Spectra is four away. Hopefully someday I can finish both up.

Rodney's Cardboard:2020 Select Black Die-Cut Autograph 1/1

Let's get to a new Rodney's Cardboard since the last one I posted was way back in January.

I also figured lets get to a biggie to draw your attention back.

I had two cards left for my 2020 Select autograph chase, both 1/1's. One was a base 1/1 and then there was a die-cut version 1/1. I wasn't ever sure they would pop up especially since the products are getting older and probably sitting in warehouses somewhere with my Rodney's inside of them.

Luckily one of them finally popped up, the die-cut version and my buddy Wes, who many know across the blogosphere as JBF sent me this one for Christmas with his bomb of a package.

For a 1/1, I would say it definitely does well with eye appeal.

Back of the card gives the usual lame duck Panini back with the one of one written at the bottom.

Thanks again to my buddy Wes for sending this my way.

There are still more Rodney's to show off from my Christmas package from Wes and there may be some more 1/1 help in that group.

Rodney's Cardboard:2020 Illusions Mirage Purple Autograph 1/1

Impressed is the word I would best describe how fast I put this rainbow together.

Usually it takes  years to build a rainbow with the 1/1 always being the last to chase, however, this one only took less than a year to build. I was impressed so many opened up Illusions with the price tag and only one auto.

The final piece I needed was of course the 1/1 which is this one,

Still the best card backs Panini has done for Rodney autographs.

 

Here is the rainbow completed. You really can't tell much of a difference in the cards other than a slight foil color change on the word Mirage.

The final 2 Rodney's Cardboard of 2021 will be two more rainbow chases. Stay tuned!

Summer Of Wes Card #15

Rodney's Cardboard:2018 Panini Illusions Elusive Ink Purple 1/1

Another week, another amazing Rodney Hampton to show off!

Today, finishes up a 3-year chase to my 2018 Panini Illusions autograph needs. Sometimes you sit back and wonder if these 1/1's will ever appear and pop up when you are chasing player collections and rainbows. I never actually ever thought this one would pop up and out of the blue, or purple, it did.

Thanks to my buddy @90sNicheFBCard I was finally able to finish off yet another Hampton rainbow.

The front of the card features purple foil as the main reason it's a parallel.

The back is meh. Kinda bland with no write up.

I will hopefully be able to show off this rainbow family in one of my next upcoming posts. With all of my recent trades that involved Rodney, it finished up a good chunk of rainbows so I will have plenty of them to show off as well.

CARDBOARD REVIEW:DC Comics Bombshells III (CONTEST)

Cryptozoic just released a bombshell........of a product.

The third release to the popular DC Comics and collectibles has been released since October and I am just getting my hands onto a box to show off and break down for you guys.

I had a lot of fun opening the previous release, so let's check out the latest one.

 

In every box of DC Comics Bombshells III there are 24 packs of 5 cards per pack. Look for random sketch cards that usually fall one per box and boxes currently sit at $80.

Also found in every box.....

 

Golden Goddess DC Lil Bombshells vinyl figure or even a one-of-a-kind, hand-painted DC Lil Bombshells figure. They are a unique, fun collectible.Imagine if they did this sport card boxes....hmmm....

BASE CARDS

There are 64 bombshell of a base card in the set and most sets should be completed in one box. There is a nice mix of DC Comics characters throughout the set.

On the back of every base card there is credit due to the artist who did the art on the front of the card.

CHASE/INSERTS

 

Gold parallels fall 1:3 packs. The foil on the front is gold instead of blue.

There are 1:8 packs Rainbow foil to find as well when the card is completely covered in rainbow foil shine.

Usually in every box of Cryptozoic products I complete every 9 card insert/chase set along with the base set. Well, not this time. Every chase/insert set I was off by one card. At least it won't be too hard to fill in the set needs.

All inserts/chase have gold foil/rainbow foil variants as well.

Wonder Girls fall 1:3 packs and features the popular characters

On The Front Line falls 1:3 packs featuring all of those DC Comic girls who are out there saving the world in front of all

Gotham's Greatest falls 1:3 packs and was my favorite of the chase sets. Really like the design featuring Gotham City in the front and the featured hero/villain in the back.

 Showstoppers, those girls who are just bombshells. These fall 1:3 packs

Found three rainbow foil variants that make these cards stand out even more.

Vintage Photographs falls 1:12 packs and I am not one card off from this set. These feature a vintage feel and approach. I think they look great in hand even though I couldn't capture all of their magic in this picture.

HITS:

Holy smokes! I have never pulled a Str Pwr before! This is a gold /25 and not an easy pull by any imagination. They don't even give odds on the ones numbered 25 or lower.

 And a 1/1 sketch!!

OVERALL THOUGHTS: If you are fan of DC Comics, I don't think you will be disappointed. Great art throughout the product and has a nice overall appeal. Also if you opened up past products of this, not much has changed and expect the same fun as you have had before with it.

Rodney's Cardboard:2018 Select Black Die Cut Autograph 1/1

Wow.

That's all I can say.

When Wes told me he had grabbed the 1/1 autograph of Rodney for me from Select I was left amazed. Nobody had ever gone as far as he had for such a card. His only response other than "you're welcome" was," I couldn't let you miss out on it. May never be listed again."

Amazing friend he has been since we started talking a few years ago. Not just for hobby aspect, but in general. He always has my back and always listens. I always do the same for him. Better friendship then I have nearby.

Enough with the chatter about that, let's check out the card. Stunning and only my second rainbow in my collection and my first autographed one.

I still am in need of the 1/1 Black Select non die cut parallel as my last need overall for Select.

Another quick back story on this card, this was the card I was once offered on Twitter by a guy who messaged me he had pulled it. This was the one I told you guys about on here that went into trade talks into the middle of the night and was within one card of finishing. Before bed I had the one card to offer the guy. I woke up the next morning pretty confident I had it, that's when he told me he had listed it overnight and got an offer already for $80. Said he could get more but would sell it to me for $100 (it went for $87 in the end). I was not pleased that he backed out of the trade first of all and then tried hustle me for more money when I had already told him I had no PayPal to begin with.

But, all turned out well in the end for me. There was a happy ending to this story with all thanks to my brother Wes. I don't know how to repay you for what you did, but I will find a way somehow. Thanks again for this and for being a great friend.

OH, Mr. Wilson!!!!

For a few months now I have been apart of an autograph group on Facebook who share their success and failures. They also share how you can score what they did as well.

A lot of autographs are cool, but ones that come as a hand drawn sketch...those are pretty awesome.

I grew up watching some show with my grandma. You know, Mr Ed, Andy Griffith and of course Dennis The Menace. I enjoyed the moments we spent watching shows she used to watch that I actually enjoyed myself. I can't remember which TV channel, one is to assume Nick At Nite, that used to play all of them for us to watch.

I remember Dennis The Menace well though because I used to pretend I was him getting myself into heaps of trouble with an older guy who worked with my father on the farm. I used to call him Mr.Wilson but he was much meaner than that actually.

 

Anyways, one of the things they shared on the Facebook page was an email address for Ron Ferndinand who is an artist for the comic strips of Dennis The Menace and after seeing a few really cool pieces I thought I would take my stab at it knowing I was a fan and bringing back those memories I had with my grandmother.

So I sent off an email and Ron was more than happy to oblige. In just a few short days this piece above arrived. It's so cool!!!

REVIEW:2018 Topps Museum Collection (1/1 FIND)

Another year and another break of 2018 Museum Collection for me to review on here. My first year provided some huge boom and since then my breaks have dropped off some with the product.

How did this years version go for me? Let's check it out!

Every box of 2018 Topps Museum Collection has 4 mini boxes per hobby box. Each mini box/pack has 5 cards and one hit in each. Each hobby box comes with:

• On-card Autograph
• Autograph Relic
• Prime Relic
• Quad Relic
• Canvas Collection Reprint
• 4 Parallels

And every box runs about $200. So it's pretty high end and you have some lofty expectations from a break.

The base set looks elegant as usual. Nice high gloss base cards with a single player focus. The base set is only 100 cards and has players of today, yesterday and tomorrow.

Each mini box pack comes with a parallel. These are copper the most common.

And this is a Sapphire that is numbered to 150.

Other parallels to find are, Amethyst /99, Ruby /50, and Emerald 1/1

Every hobby box also comes with a Canvas Collection Reprint card. I pulled a decent one here. There are 50 overall to collect.

Since that's the only insert, it's time to see how the hits rolled out in this one.

Primary Pieces Quad Relic. This one features 3 bat swatches and one jersey of Ryan Zimmerman. There are 77 cards to collect in the set.

Signature Swatches Dual Relic Autographs which I thought would be my hit of the box, well, turns out to be my stalker Alex Wood. Grrrrr. There are 46 cards in this set and I got him.

Archival Autographs. This is a pretty large set with 70 autographs to chase. I pulled the recently acquired Padre Francisco Mejia.

Meaningful Material Patch Relics is the most common hit to find. Well with 145 cards in the set that would explain why. My pull was a Emerald parallel 1/1 of Carlos Martinez.

 

 

Other hits not found in my box but could be in yours includes,

OVERALL:Well, even with a 1/1 find in this box I didn't come out feeling that great with the cost of $200. No big names to be found in my hits.

So I guess the question is, how much would you want to gamble cause you know you still want  to break some. Do you want just a pack? Buy into a break? Or take a big gamble and buy a hobby box? The cards in this product and the hits I didn't pull all look beautiful and would appear in a hobby museum. The only problem I had with it is the big gamble but what box in the hobby isn't one. Whether it's $200 or $20, anything you buy in this hobby is a gamble when it comes to opening up products.

Honestly for me, I would go into some box breaks with random teams. That would be fun.

Busting Makes Me Feel Good

If you didn't know, I am a huge Ghostbusters fan. The movies and The Real Ghostbusters cartoon.

When Cryptozoic released their Ghostbusters trading cards, I was fortunate to bust a box and did fairly well pulling a pretty sick slime card. However, once I found out they had animation cel cards from the show I watched when I was a kid, I needed one.

So I jumped onto eBay. These only fell 1:36 packs but are 1/1's, prices were quite decent on most and I didn't have the funds to pour a lot in. So I looked for the cheapest version and here it is, for $9 I thought it was a pretty good add even though I don't remember who this character was anymore.

The 915 is on the plastic sleeve as it arrived that way

 

I hope to add more of these down the road along with more autographs and slime cards. So far, I just have one of each. This product isn't the cheapest in the world to buy per box or get singles of. So as far as chasing each part down in set form, I don't think I can even touch it, but just to add as many as I can of each, I will take that.

One Of A Kind

I always travel the internet and window shop, especially since the last two years have been so tough financially, so when I stumbled upon a pretty cool Rodney Hampton card that I have never seen or heard of before I wanted it. Once again however,  finances prevented me from just snagging it and it had to go straight to my watch list where a bunch of broken dreams exist.

Luckily I know some great people in the hobby and thanks to my buddy Jammin JD Sports Cards, I was able to add this one of a kind card to my Hampton PC. Sorry other Hampton or more likely Georgia collectors, I am keeping this one.

This card was printed by Masterpiece Collectables. They made a set of these exclusive 1/1 Special Olympics Nevada cards from 1998 Score base cards that I assume were sold for funds to help the Special Olympics. Something I find really awesome and wished more companies including card companies would do today. I bet a lot of collectors would grab cards of their favorite players if they were 1/1's and were going to legit fundraisers or non profit organizations.

The card also included a Certificate Of Authenticity that tells you about this special card.

 

This is probably one of the coolest cards in my Hampton PC.

REVIEW:2016 Plates And Patches Box 2

Box 1 was yesterday and showcased the beauty of a the product I felt was within, today picks up where yesterday's box was left off.

So let's just get to it and rip it! (if you missed yesterdays and need more info on the product just scroll back on the blog a day)

 

Box 2 starts out with a base card /99 and of NFL MVP Matty Ice.

 

The parallel this round was of Bronco great John Elway. It's a blue /50.

 

My first hit, well, you know this name from this blog. Only bad part is it being a one color patch. But, it's a blue parallel /50. The posed photos on these can sometimes be corny, I didn't feel this one was.

 

Up next, another rookie patch auto. However this time a white and not multi-color like yesterday. Hopefully Moore has more in his future. Like I said yesterday, this is a deep set checklist for auto-patch rookies that you can either pull big names or lesser known names.

 

And finally, the 1/1 plate this time a magenta one of Titans rookie runner Derek Henry. This card comes from the Blue Chip insert set from 2016 Prestige.

 

Overall, this break wasn't quite as solid as the first box, but I am still very much in love with the product as a whole. I feel there is so much to find in here and with everything being so limited from base cards to the hits it should help keep good value as player and team collectors will seek out cards they need.

REVIEW:2016 Plates And Patches Football Box 1

One of my most anticipated products since hearing about it's return to the gridiron was Plates and Patches. Mostly because of it's new format and actually putting a focus on the name of the product, Plates and Patches. Makes sense doesn't it?

I have two boxes to showcase with today's breaking down the details review style and tomorrow's basically a hit display. So let's see how box one went. READ ON!

In every box of 2016 Plates and Patches football football, you will find 5 cards. Three of those cards will be hits and the other two will be one base card and one base card parallel. Each Box contains One On-Card Autograph or Rookie Patch Auto, One Prime Memorabilia Card, and One Printing Plate for less than $100. It's a little gamble, but you are getting one 1/1 per box. How many boxes can you say that about???

The base set looks nice and are numbered to 99 with rookies and legends being numbered to 79 so those are even tougher to find. The checklist is 200 cards deep built of vets, rookies and legends. So there is a lot to chase with only one base card per pack to find.

Probably not a set collectors type of product.

As I stated above, there are base cards parallels. These include Blue /50, Green /25, Red /10, and Gold 1/1. This is a nice Green of Tony Dorsett /25.

Now it's time to show off the hits!

My first pull is a ROOKIE PATCH AUTOGRAPH of Hunter Henry. There are 42 cards in this to chase including all of the top rookies from the 2016 class including Ezekiel Elliott, Dak Prescott, Carson Wentz, Jared Goff, Derrick Henry, Paxton Lynch.. There are parallels to find of Blue (#/50 or #/25), Green (#/25 or #/10), Red (#/10 or #/5), and Gold 1/1.

My next pull is pretty slick, a trio of patches /50 of WR's from the 2016 class. Wished it had been Shepard, but these are all names we could be hearing in the future.

 

And my last pull, the 1/1 plate, is of Bo Jackson. This plate is from Gala football. It seems plates in the product cover a variety of different Panini products from 2016. I don't find this a problem however as it's probably the only way you can put a plate in every box of this product. Can't ever go wrong with a 1/1 plate.

Other hits not found in my box are, CANTON CALLIGRAPHY, FULL COVERAGE, DOUBLE COVERAGE, ROOKIE QUAD JERSEY, DOUBLE COVERAGE, SIGNAL-CALLERS and GAME CHANGERS AUTOGRAPHS

Overall, not huge big-name pulls other than the plate, but I feel there is enough packed into this product worth warranting a bust. I know I was left felt wanting more. Especially with all of the hits I didn't find in my box such as the Canton Calligraphy that has a deep Hall Of Fame checklist of tremendous stars. 

But, I will let you see another break of the product tomorrow so you can get a good feeling about it for yourself. I don't believe you will be disappointed but I guess it depends on what your likes are. I know mine can be found in here because it's all about the patches and plates.
