Reflections Of Rodney

I know, I know, another day of Hampton. Well, there will be many more ahead til I get caught up with all of my drafts.

Today's add came from Jammin JD Sports Cards.

Surprisingly, with as much Score 1995 football I bought back in the day, and it was a lot, I never pulled one single Reflections insert. Back when grocery stores actually carried cards, 1995 Score was always stacked and I always bought. You would think with these only falling 1:36 packs, or one per box, I would have at least landed one. But, no such luck.

So luckily for me Jammin JD Sports Cards had one available of my guy Rodney so I got to once again take another one off of the checklist. This insert featured a upcoming star running back and paired them in comparison with an NFL star.

The upcoming player was the spotlight on the card while the comparison was in a mirror as his "reflection".

 

These cards look much better then the version being put out today. Isn't that the way with anything that gets revived?

Is He In Your Starting Lineup?

Now in my Starting Lineup, is the second card I needed from Starting Lineup of my man Rodney. I didn't think I was ever going to land them both but lucked out.

Just by the looks of this one, you can see this is an obvious early 90's card. Well, it is, 1992 to be exact. Easy pickup for $1. I am always happy to add cards to my PC cheap when I can.

Dual Refractor

Rodney is back!

Only three more Rodney Hampton posts remain in my drafts so we will kick it off with another sweet addition thanks to Jammin JD Sports Cards.

This is a 1994 Stadium Club Bowman's Best Dual Refractor. I have owned the base issue for awhile but not the refractor version. These weren't the toughest finds falling at 1:12 packs but but it was a deep checklist so finding ones you needed may not have always been easy.

This dual is of Rodney Hampton and Errict Rhett.

SCOREd Another Artist Proof!!

Yeah, yeah, I know. Another day, another Hampton.

I didn't realize how far behind I was on doing these posts. So many more left in drafts!! I do hope you guys are enjoying these or they are helping you bring back memories of collecting past.

Today's card is a parallel from 1996 Score. The typical Artists Proof. This version fell 1:36 packs or one per box. So not an easy find especially for a product with a deep checklist. Luckily my buddy Jammin JD Sports Cards was helpful in the search.

Nothing too spectacular about this card. The photography was even poor. But, a need is a need and here is to another Hampton being crossed off.

A Golden Running Predictor

Here we are back again with another Rodney Hampton PC add.This time we take a trip back to 1994 and with Upper Deck's Predictor game cards.

Today's card isn't a redemption version, it's a winning card.

Back in 1994, Upper Deck inserted Predictor cards at a rate of 1:20 in it's retail product. If the featured player did the feat they posted, you could exchange that card for a set of winning cards with foil. It was a fun promo that I wished still was around today.

 

Once again, cards like these are not always easy to find. I see many people selling these as the full sets instead of the individual cards that would sell for a much less premium. At least this Hampton was found at a reasonable $2.

Action Packed With Gold!

Here it is, the final Hampton post in my drafts. I hope you guys have enjoyed the gallery over the last few months. There was a lot of fun stuff to show off and hopefully a lot of it brought you back or made you see something you hadn't before.

My pickup today came in a trade with Dub Mentality Blog a few months ago. It's a 1991 Action Packed 24K Gold parallel. The only difference between this and the regular base card is the small 24-Kt. Gold Stamp at the bottom you can barely see.

 

These were randomly found in packs with no given odds. I picked up the 1992 version about a year ago, so I am happy to finally have both of them. Some of those early 90's inserts aren't always easy to find.

Thanks again Dub for the trade and for the three new Hampton additions to my PC. Hope we can do it again soon.

Black Diamond Single

Well, today's Rodney Hampton post I moved up a year to 1997 figuring you were sick of 1996 stuff.

Like I have stated before, there are some simple Rodney Hampton cards I needed to add and today's card is one of them.

It's simply a base card from 1997 Black Diamond a stunning looking product at the time. Gotta love that Fx feel.

 

I also have the red parallel, so only the gold remains a need for me from this set and shouldn't be a tough add, but just gotta have the funds and the means to find it. You can see all of my Rodney Hampton needs, HERE.

A Card Supial

Today's latest card I got from Jammin JD Sports Cards, looks bigger than it actually is. The card is actual a pretty mini card blown up on here.

It's from 1996 Pacific Crown Collection. It's a 1:37 mini Card Supial. Not a whole lot special with this card other than being a mini. Design is kinda bland but I do like the pic they used of Hampton.

Hampton Archived

Not all of my remaining Rodney Hampton needs are these rare inserts, some are simply just base cards I haven't hunted down yet.

Today's card is a simple example of that. A 2013 Topps Archives base that was throwing it back to 1993 Topps.

Cut Backs:Members Only

When I first got today's card from Jammin JD Sports Cards, I assumed it was the regular Cut Backs inserts I needed from 1996 Stadium Club. The regular version of these fall 1:36 packs and have held their value over the years for the top players.

This is the front which I thought looked like the regular front....

But, the back had some very underlying writing on it you can barely see. To my surprise, it was a Member Only parallel to Cut Backs. Super Sweet!

 

So I began my research on the card. I knew that the base set had Members Only parallels that were produced to only 750 sets, but what about an insert and what were the odds on this? After a bit of searching, my research came up empty. So I can only assume only 750 of this card exist as well and it's not one I have ever seen in my Hampton searches.

A Running Dual

What happens when I have a PC need that combines two of my favorite running backs from the 90's??? I go get it!

There were two versions put out of the 1996 Upper Deck Hot Properties insert. There was a base silver and a Gold. Today's card is the much tougher to pull gold parallel that were found at 1:71 packs.

The card is printed with dufex metallic technology and really stands out. It combines two of the NFL's "hottest" players.

Features another running back I was fond of in the 90's in TD, Terrell Davis.

 

This was a pretty solid addition to my Hampton PC. Just need to get the base version of this now.

MVP Gold

We are actually closing in on the end of the Hampton posts or at least the ones I needed catching up on.

Today we travel back to 1996 to a simpler time in the hobby. Back to when the inserts were actually valuable and it wasn't all about big money hits. Back when pulling a big name player of an insert from Collectors Choice meant something.

To me, I still think of the hobby that way when I buy the 90's stuff. If I beat the box odds and pulled an Emmitt Smith of today's 1:35 pack pull card, I would be super stoked. It doesn't need to be signed or have a patch.

Which is why I am so happy when I get to add a tougher to pull card that averages one per box to my PC. I was also a huge fan of these foiled inserts that fell one-per-pack for the regular issue back then.
I have the regular Hampton, now I have the tougher gold thanks to Jammin JD Sport Cards.

 

The only difference between this card and it's base version, this one has gold foil instead of silver. 

Another Hampton down and still more than 50% to go!

Going to Xtremes

Yup, Rodney is back.

Once again today we go back to 1996 and go to the Xtreme. In 1996 Playoff Absolute Football, which by the way the base cards rank in my Top 10 all-time favorite designs, you could find these acetate Xtreme Team inserts that fell 1:24 packs or one-per-box.

It looks as cool as it appears as Rodney is "shredding" up on his run or at least on this card. I just wished these had been numbered that would have taken it to the next level.

After looking at this insert again, I pose the question, what ever happened to cool inserts like this anyways?

One Of A Kind

I always travel the internet and window shop, especially since the last two years have been so tough financially, so when I stumbled upon a pretty cool Rodney Hampton card that I have never seen or heard of before I wanted it. Once again however,  finances prevented me from just snagging it and it had to go straight to my watch list where a bunch of broken dreams exist.

Luckily I know some great people in the hobby and thanks to my buddy Jammin JD Sports Cards, I was able to add this one of a kind card to my Hampton PC. Sorry other Hampton or more likely Georgia collectors, I am keeping this one.

This card was printed by Masterpiece Collectables. They made a set of these exclusive 1/1 Special Olympics Nevada cards from 1998 Score base cards that I assume were sold for funds to help the Special Olympics. Something I find really awesome and wished more companies including card companies would do today. I bet a lot of collectors would grab cards of their favorite players if they were 1/1's and were going to legit fundraisers or non profit organizations.

The card also included a Certificate Of Authenticity that tells you about this special card.

 

This is probably one of the coolest cards in my Hampton PC.

Litho-Cel

The 90's brought us many innovations. Card companies went out of their way to be the most creative and tried to outdo others, something that we lack in today's market with all of the exclusives.

They added prisms, foil, holograms and something called Litho-Cel.

Litho-Cels were two layered cards that Pacific created in 1996. The weird thing was, each pack came with cards and a litho-cel but it may not always match up. Actually, I don't think it ever did.

So these are what the base or bottom cards look like in the set. Odd huh? Wait til you see what happens to it....

Back of the card

This is what the Litho-Cels looks like. This is actually the silver parallel Litho-Cel looks like. Yes, these also had parallels you needed to chase.

When you put the Litho-Cel on top of the base card...magic happens....

 

You get a clear, well somewhat, colored photo. Pretty cool idea, just tough to put all together the way they organized the product. But, I guess the chase is part of the fun. 

I am so glad that Jammin JD Sports Cards was able to help me land both parts in this case. Now I just need to chase the other parallels down.

Exclusive Member

A few months ago, I posted a new 1993 Stadium Club add I got for my Hampton PC from Dub Mentality Blog and teased another would be posted.

That day has finally arrived!

This time it's a Members Only parallel that can only be found in set form. The only thing that separates this card from it's base is the gold foil Members Only stamp in the top right corner.

Being sold as sets and not knowing how many were sold, it's hard to judge how many Rodney's are out there. I will say this is the first I have seen of one.

TAG! Rodney's It

The headline of this will probably throw you a bit. When you see the word tag, I bet you were thinking Laundry Tag type of card and not one known as a Dog Tag or in this case, a Pro Tag.

Thanks to Jammin JD Sports Cards I was able to cross off one of the two Dog Tags I need.

These were simply NFL players printed on plastic as a collectible. They came 6 to a blister package and ran about 3 years I believe.

The cool thing about these, other than a solid design, is the back...

Where there is a spot for the featured player to sign.

Artists Proof Rodney

Pinnacle football was the pinnacle in my opinion of football cards when it came to capturing action shots while putting out a solid design. 1996 was no different.

I always was fond of the 1995 and 1996 designs for football of the product and thanks to my buddy over at Jammin JD Sports Cards I was able to add a much needed parallel from 1996.

This Artist Proof was the final parallel I needed to finish off my Pinnacle needs for that product.

The base cards normally have a gold triangle at the bottom, but the parallels turned it silver. This one added the words Artist's Proof in a rainbow foil. Odds on these are tough to judge as they are randomly inserted from what my research showed. But, you have to assume this was the toughest parallel of the group to find.

 

Another great add to the Hampton PC but there are many more I need.

Bustout

Another day, another new Hampton add.

Bustout is a pretty slick silver foil etched card that was found in random packs of 1995 Action Packed Rookie and Stars Jumbo packs. Wasn't anything I had seen til I looked it up.

Only added this sharp looking card for $1. Any time I can add great looking cards like this for cheap, I will take it.

Members Only, 1994 Edition

I promise you that not every post will be a Rodney Hampton addition since we are currently on a little bit of a run here. I do hope they are at least taking you back to a great time of collecting at least in my life or at the very least showing you cards that you haven't seen before.

Members Only was a simple parallel. It simply was the base card with a stamp on the front of it. Doesn't get an simpler and not really that hard to find at 1:8 packs. But, for some reason, these are still not easy finds on the market.
