Kerry's Cardboard:1996 Action Packed Longest Yard

Fun inserts comes to mind when I am putting together my Kerry Collins collection.

Sure, there are plenty of base cards I could chase for cheaper, but I want to tackle the fun stuff first.

For example, 1996 Action Packed Longest Yard.

These shiny embossed background cards that fell 1:24 packs draws your eyes right in. Absolutely love it and love the football background.

Back Of The Card.

These are the type of Kerry Collins cards that make me smile even not in a Giants uniform.

I will be posting another pickup soon from this set soon.

Thoughts on today's insert add welcomed in comments.

Rodney's Cardboard:1992 Action Packed Mint Parallel

Welcome back for a NEW Rodney's Cardboard to also celebrate another NFL full Sunday slate of games.

Today, the Giants have their home opener against the Carolina Panthers. I am cautiously optimistic as I am sure all of us Giants fans are.

*fingers crossed*

For today's Rodney's Cardboard I am showing off a pretty unique and rare card I never thought I would see. It isn't easy to find new Rodney's anymore but occasionally, once every few months, there is a new one that pops up.

Which is why I didn't ever expect to see this one.
This is a 1992 Action Packed Mint Parallel. The card is the base card, but completely covered in gold foil.

The back of the card is also covered in the gold foil, besides the picture of Rodney, and the card is numbered 138/500. I have personally never seen one of these and can only imagine how hard a card numbered to 500 is actually to find in the early 90's.

Thanks to my buddy Shane for helping me acquire this big need.

Thoughts on today's latest Rodney, if you have seen or owned one of these and what early 90's card are you still chasing welcomed in comments.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday, GO GIANTS!

Rodney's Cardboard:1993 Action Packed 24kt Gold NY Giants vs New Orleans Saints Set

Another week closer to football, I CANNOT WAIT!

So let's show off today's latest Rodney Hampton to celebrate another week closer.

When it comes to Rodney Hampton, I like to chase all I can and today's oddball proves it.

This is a binder of sort. This is the outer sleeve.

You slide the cover off and it reveals this.

There is a base

And a 24KT gold of it as well.

I have never seen one of these before and fortunately my buddy @CardpocalypseNC was nice enough to snag it for me. The only problem with pieces like this is finding a way to store them but being a Super Collector, gotta have them all.

Thanks again to Tim and next week we are headed back to a newest Select add.

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Saturday's In The 90's: It's Complete!

Emmitt's reaction was the same as mine when I heard that my buddy @CardpocalypseNC had located and found the last missing piece for my 1997 Action Packed Studs set.

It was a year long need after I had located and built the remaining parts of the set. I didn't expect to finally complete this childhood dream set. Heck, after I owned one card from the set it was a childhood dream come true.

Here is the 9 card set all together. I just wished my camera could capture the beauty of them all.

I am also one card into the 1996 set and have contemplated doing that one as well as that set is only 6 cards but it appears the cards may cost a bit more each. But, if I can make this dream come true, it doesn't mean I can't make that one come true as well.

Thanks to Tim again for the help with this set. I am beyond happy to finally have this one crossed off.

25 Days Of Cardmas: Step Into Christmas

Today's song matchup seemed spot on I must say. Santa's boots+Step Into Christmas...yeah, I expect an applause for this one.

Elton John is one of my favorite all-time singers, thanks to my father, and one of my more favorable Christmas songs that I don't really hear that often on the radio is Step Into Christmas by the legend himself. Elton released this song 10 years before I was born in 1973, but it's a Christmas classic to me.
Today's card is another one of those NFL Properties cards featuring Santa. It's actually the first one in the 1993 series. This time it uses the Action Packed design and feel as well. It's one of the better used designs and pictures in the series as it makes me think of an old fashioned Christmas and those are the best ones.

What is your favorite holiday song you don't hear enough of?

Rodney's Cardboard:1993 Action Packed 1000 Rushers Uncut Sheet

It's not often you will find someone posting about their Super Collection that involves an uncut sheet in back to back weeks. But, I lucked into finding them.

When you have such a vast collection already of a player, it begins to get tough to find new cards for your collection. At one point, I had every card that was listed on eBay and there was no new ones to find. Since then, a very-very small few have popped up that I needed.

That's why it is very important to find oddball items to fill in the time. I could really use his Starting Lineups (unopened of course he has three) and autograph memorabilia such as photos, jerseys, footballs, etc. That will come in more desperate times I suppose.

Today's uncut sheet features a group of Super Star running backs from the 90's along with my homeboy Rodney.

We have names like Emmitt, Barry, Waters, Warren, and Thomas to go along with some lesser known names.

For the most part this sheet is in pretty good condition other than a small crease near Barry Sanders but it's hardly noticeable.  I will take it regardless.

Next week I will show off a new card from a new product that caught me by surprise.

Until then, have a great rest of your Sunday and Go Giants! Beat the 49ers!

Rodney's Cardboard:1995 Action Packed Monday Night Footgball Highlights Parallel

It's amazing that I could chase every 1995 version of Action Packed down except for one of Rodney Hampton. One parallel card that fell 1:6 packs eluded me for a long time.

Now, it's finally mine and once again, I overpaid for it just to have it as I wasn't letting it escape from me.

1995 Action Packed Monday Night Football was one of three Action Packed releases in 1995. This one had foil parallels called Highlights that fell 1:6 packs. Rodney had two cards in the base set and I did find the base version Highlights but the subset eluded me for awhile.

Until it popped up on COMC that seems to house most of the needed Rodney's for me.

The card is simply foil covering the front.

And the word Highlights engraved into the back

I have been a long standing fan of Action Packed so adding this one was pretty sweet in two ways.

Another Stud

I have already shown off my collection of 1997 Action Packed Studs and tossed in the fact that I had gotten a 1996 edition from a friend by mistake. Which is okay because I was possibly going to chase that set as well.

Unlike the 1997 version of Action Packed Studs that had 9 cards in the set, the 1996 only has 6. There is Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders, Jerry Rice, Michael Irvin, Kordell and Rickey Watters. Lots of studs of studs. It won't be an easy chase if I decide to fully go all-in on it like I did with 1997.

The cards still contained the genuine diamond chip and are still numbered to 1500 like the 1997 edition. Odds of finding one in 1996 was 1:161 packs.

The 1996 edition also had 24K Gold parallels that were found apart of a redemption program and were numbered to only 200 of each. I have only ever spotted one once on eBay.

There is also a both version of this one where Studs are in both ears. Another one I have only seen one of ever listed.

The one I got is the regular version.

The 1996 card stud that my buddy Shane sent was of a QB stud who could also play many other positions on offense. He could "Slash" his way through defenses while running, could throw a mile like he did in the "The Miracle At Michigan" in 1994 while playing for Colorado where he threw a miraculous (you need to YouTube it) Hail Mary throw almost the length of the field to pull off the upset. Kordell would also at times line up at WR. Defenses always had to make sure they had their eyes on #10 at all times.

I have a long ways to go with this one, and many other projects, but at least I have a start thanks to Shane over at Project Pedro Blog.

Rodney's Cardboard:Variety Of Recent PIckups

When I took pictures of these, I forgot to take pictures of the backs so this will just be an ongoing gallery today for my Rodney pickups.

These were picked up on eBay and from a trade.

1995 Pro Line gold Super Bowl XXX that is numbered to 799.

1997 Pacific Invicible blue parallel

The final piece I needed for my 1996 Score was Artist Proof subset of 2nd Effort

I am not sure which parallel this is, but I grabbed it. I didn't own one with blue foil.

Collectors Edge die cut

1994 Action Packed All Madden 24K which you wouldn't notice the difference unless its side by side with the base card.  The only real big difference is on the bandage where the All Madden is all in gold. That's it. The base just has the writing in gold.

This does it for another Rodney's Cardboard. STAY TUNED FOR NEXT WEEKS where Rodney just isn't about the cards anymore. It's about the before cards. Stay tuned!

Looking For A Stud

Long before Panini and Topps started tossing their jewels around, yeah I know that came out wrong, Action Packed put jewels, well diamond relics, into cards.

The insert line was called Studs and it was featured both in 1996 and 1997 Action Packed products. It featured NFL superstars who wore diamond stud earrings.

These were randomly inserted into hobby packs at a rate of one in 167 packs and features a genuine diamond chip in their earring stud.

There was also only 1500 sets produced, which at the time made them extremely rare and I would say that continues true to today.

I had always longed to own a card from the set and recently found a couple of really cheap ones for the 1997 version on eBay. When I mean cheap, I am talking under $10.

After picking up the couple and got them in hand, I then began to get addicted and started to chase the nine card set.

One by one, I was chipping away, see what I did there and felt like stud for doing so. I mean, who goes back to 1997 and collects such a hard set instead of prospecting? Well, I do.

Let's check out the gallery, shall we?

Keyshawn Johnson

Terrell Davis

Robert Smith

Kordell Stewart

Deion Sanders

Barry Sanders

Jerry Rice

But, if you have been counting along, I have only 8 of the 9 in the set. The ninth, is Emmitt Smith. There are only two on eBay that I can find and both are $60+ and the cheaper of the two is not in great condition. The more expensive one is graded and costs over $100. Not cash I have.

I am not sure if this is the end of the set, I don't like leaving things open like this. But, if that's it and if it's where I have to settle, I will. But, it doesn't mean I won't keep an eye out on a cheaper one. Someday I think these will dry up and won't be found at all. If you look now, you won't find some of the ones I even hav.

I must say though, I am pretty proud of how far I have come with this set and even have one towards the 1996 set with a friend picking it up for me, even though technically that was done by mistake as they were going to grab the 1997 version but I will take it. I will be sure to show that one off soon as well.

And who knows, the 1996 version has only 6 in it and I am already one down.....

Episode 20:1995 Action Packed Football Box Break

I recently made a big trade with my friend and fellow 90's wax buster Shane. He is the one who runs the Cheap Wax Wednesday and Other Stuff where he breaks boxes that cost under $50 from 80's, 90's and today.

In my trade, I not only got some set help along with some sweet singles,I will show off on here, I  was also able to land some boxes of stuff from 1995-1999 that I will bust and show off on here as well.

Today a rip of 1995 Action Packed football.

There are 24 packs of 8 cards to find in 1995 Action Packed football with boxes running just at $12.

Once again, I busted a ton of this stuff back in 1995 and have been wanting to build this fun base set.
The base was Action Packed and used the embossing technology on player and name.

The rookies are still in their college uniforms.

My boy Kerry!

I thought this was a fun shot

Now some parallels

Quick Silver. It says it on the back. Not sure why it didn't upload to show you.

And some boom in this box!

1:96 odds of pulling an Armed Forces Braille

That has braille on the back of the card. Pretty cool looking insert

And what's this....another?!?! But wait, this doesn't have the braille on the back. Interesting. Must be two different variations from my research. The tougher version is the braille.

One thing I didn't spy in my box break was a 24K gold parallel that was supposed to be 1:24 packs where you would think would be one per box. Oh well. Pretty excited about the other two hits.

Once again, this is not junk. This is fun and worth every penny.

Rodney's Cardboard:1995 Action Packed Monday Night Football Highlights

COMC has a seller on there who has a bunch of Rodney Hampton cardboard I have never seen listed...EVER.

And all of it I fear will leave before I can afford to buy it. Fortunately for me, I have good friends in southern places such as Wes. Guy is like no other and is definitely my brother from another mother.

He snagged a few of them off from there for me and now I am showing them off. Today's is from 1995 Action Packed Monday Night Football which was one of three Action Packed product releases in 1995.

I am a tad surprised how tough it was to find today's card. They only fell 1:6 packs but you would think it was 1:million.

This was the only one listed for this card number. I think there are two overall in the set of Hampton I need. I am just glad to have one.

The parallel overall is pretty simple. Silver foil on the front

Highlights imprinted on the back

Hopefully I can add the other at some point and finish up my Action Packed needs for 1995.
