Forgotten Claims

Awhile back, I must have claimed some cards over at A Penny Sleeve For Your Thoughts blog and had forgotten until they arrived last week.

Which is nice as I do like surprises, who doesn't?

Let's see what rolled on in,

A year after Super Rookie and a 1990 Score Hampton rookie towards my 100 card chase.

A set need! Anytime I can cross one off it's exciting.  I still need to do some updating on here for some sets.

I was always a fan of these Steel cards from Leaf, cards printed on metal. This is only the second one in my collection as Griffey is my other.

I can never turn down a refractor. NEVER.

Thanks to Jon for the mail day. I know it was from a freebie Friday claim but I will hit you back with something at some point. I hit up a few folks this week I felt I owed so I have a few more to go as well. I need to get better at making my lists again as I have been slacking.

Looking For A Stud

Long before Panini and Topps started tossing their jewels around, yeah I know that came out wrong, Action Packed put jewels, well diamond relics, into cards.

The insert line was called Studs and it was featured both in 1996 and 1997 Action Packed products. It featured NFL superstars who wore diamond stud earrings.

 

These were randomly inserted into hobby packs at a rate of one in 167 packs and features a genuine diamond chip in their earring stud.

 

There was also only 1500 sets produced, which at the time made them extremely rare and I would say that continues true to today.

I had always longed to own a card from the set and recently found a couple of really cheap ones for the 1997 version on eBay. When I mean cheap, I am talking under $10.

After picking up the couple and got them in hand, I then began to get addicted and started to chase the nine card set.

One by one, I was chipping away, see what I did there and felt like stud for doing so. I mean, who goes back to 1997 and collects such a hard set instead of prospecting? Well, I do.

But, if you have been counting along, I have only 8 of the 9 in the set. The ninth, is Emmitt Smith. There are only two on eBay that I can find and both are $60+ and the cheaper of the two is not in great condition. The more expensive one is graded and costs over $100. Not cash I have.

I am not sure if this is the end of the set, I don't like leaving things open like this. But, if that's it and if it's where I have to settle, I will. But, it doesn't mean I won't keep an eye out on a cheaper one. Someday I think these will dry up and won't be found at all. If you look now, you won't find some of the ones I even hav.

I must say though, I am pretty proud of how far I have come with this set and even have one towards the 1996 set with a friend picking it up for me, even though technically that was done by mistake as they were going to grab the 1997 version but I will take it. I will be sure to show that one off soon as well.

And who knows, the 1996 version has only 6 in it and I am already one down.....

Back To The 90's With Area 40

During Wes' retirement tour-formerly blogger of Jay Barker Fan blog and now runs a last big hurrah blog in Area 40-he has been unloading packages onto bloggers for goodbye gifts.

We are closing in on the finale of my mail day from Wes with only one part left, the finale. Til then, let's take a look at today's offerings before the final post.

Akili Smith again. But, the key with this card is the cool die cut that Press Pass offered. That had many great ones.

How great is this Steve McNair Gold Team card from his rookie year. Excellent Smithers!

Walter's son Jarrett Payton. My very first piece of cardboard of his.

Caleb Sturgis auto. I believe this is my very first kicker autograph.

This guy went from being a Superstar with the Jets to disappearing completely. Another guy who played past his prime.

This is a cool parallel I have never seen before. A Team2000 parallel that's numbered.

Here comes some great 90's signatures I didn't have. Dorsey Levens who ran for the Packers

Then Rodney Harrison who played safety for the Chargers and Patriots and was crucial to the Giants Super Bowl 42 win as he couldn't knock the ball out of Tyree's one-hand helmet catch.

David Patten numbered to 299 card. I didn't own anything like this til now.

Amani Toomer /100 UD Exclusive parallel. Another card I hadn't seen. Totally dig the photography on this one.

The Hot Rookies product was very underrated. Had beautiful parallels and solid pulls for a good price. Too bad it didn't survive another round. I bought about 4 boxes of it then when I had more hobby funds. Wished I could break another.

Tiki has a love/hate relationship with fans. I am more on the love side and appreciate everything he brought to the Gmen especially the two Super Bowls after he left haha.

My first ever Marlins parallel from '93 Topps.

Mike Piazza. Him and Clemens in the bat incident is sadly the most I remember about Piazza.

And mark this as a new one for the KGJR collection. Nice early 90's card.

Well there you have it for this part. Only one more section of this mail day exists and as Vanessa Williams put it, I saved the best for last.
