It's May and I promised some new posts on Sport Card Collectors, so here we go.

My first one will be the return of Caption This Card!

For those of you that are new to this, just Caption This Card (keep it clean for my younger readers) in comments.

My First Full 90's Rainbow

In the 90's, we didn't have 35 parallels in any set compared to some of today's products. Even the chromed products had only a couple at most. 

When I was recently checking out Burbank Sportcards Beckett Marketplace, I ran into a product I didn't know had some many parallels.

1999 Playoff Prestige SSD was a product loaded with parallels for its time. There were five to chase overall and was probably the most parallels I have seen in a product since Pinnacle Certified.

The base card, which by the way looks spectacular as is, was not numbered.

But, all of the spectrum parallels were randomly inserted into packs and numbered to 500.

Purple Spectrum

Blue Spectrum

 

All of the cards look spectacular side by side. Graham was the only Giants player I could find on Burbank that had the entire run.

A couple of weeks ago, I showed off a baseball swatch for my unique swatch collection.

Today, I have another cool piece to show off.

While researching my E-X needs, I discovered that E-X released a show swatch back in 1999. Nothing speaks to me more than a 90's insert/card with a memorabilia swatch. 

I NEEDED ONE.

So I searched Burbank Sportcards Marketplace for one and found a cheap one of Cade McCown. Not only was it cheap, but the swatch was one of the better ones.

The cards are hand numbered.

And randomly inserted into packs.

After picking this one up, I want more and may need to add another in my next Burbank Sportcards mail day.

Burbank Pickups Of The Month:April 2022 Edition

My latest mail day from Burbank Sportcards Beckett Marketplace took me on a trip to the 90's.

I will always take that trip 100% of the time and wished it was a real-life trip.

A 90's insert trip works for now though.

It's amazing how I am lead to certain inserts or products. I don't specifically look up these inserts, they just happen to find me. If I think they are cool, I will add them to the card.

Just like these 1999 E-X Century E-Xtrodinary inserts that fell 1:9 packs. The design reminds me of the bubble insert that Topps used in its Bowman inserts. This one has more of a lenticular feel to it than those did.

There wasn't a huge selection of players but I did grab one of each they had available.

I know what you are thinking and I agree, they just don't make them like they used to. Today's inserts are way too plain. If these existed today they would be considered case hits which are the only cool inserts made now-a-days.

The next round of cards I actually needed for my set chase, but I was once again led to them as I forgot I had started this set chase.

Rookie Rising fell 1:11 packs back in 1997 Zenith, the last year of the awesome product of the 90's.

I found four I needed for my set including a Giants one I didn't know existed in the set,

Autograph Of The Week:Chris Calloway

  

Despite having well over 6,000 different NY Giants cards and plenty of autographs that takes up that number, there are still some players I don't have signatures of that were pretty easy to acquire.

Take Chris Calloway for example. Pretty affordable, talented but forgot about Giants Wide Receiver who led the team in receiving from 95-98.

Calloway began his career for the Pittsburgh Steelers and played two years there before going to the Giants via Free Agency. That's where he played his 7 best years of football before he ended his career on one year deals with the Falcons and Patriots. Will be honest I didn't know about him being with the Patriots.

I can finally knock Calloway off from my needs list after picking up this card from Burbank Sportcards Beckett Marketplace for $3. I also used 15Burbank and saved myself 10% off. I recommend you do the same.

MMMB:New Trading Partners Always Welcomed

Sometimes it's nice to break out of my core group of 5 trading buddies who I trade with multiple times a year and find someone new.

Because new people could bring different types of cards for your collection.

So when I made a trade with @gator_cards, he got my interest by some cards I hadn't seen that much of before.

This Sterling Shepard?

Nope. Seen that one as well.

 

A group of Ikes? Nah.

This Daniel Jones.... YUP! one of them!

But it really comes down to the following cards that help add to my NY Giants PC from the late 90's which is the weakest part of my Giants collection.

 

This Ike Hilliard Spx is from 1998, shines like a beaut Clark and is /325

This is a '99 Prestige parallel that is /500. Once again. love that shine.

And to end it, a Crown Royale rookie card. Other than 1995, this was one of my favorite designs on Crown Royale of the 90's.

Let's Talk About Sets Volume 33:1999 Topps Chrome Football

The fourth edition of Topps Chrome from the 90's, the final one I am chasing as well has just begun the chase for me and for some reason or another, I don't have this one updated yet on here.

  

It's definitely not too far done. Maybe four or five cards. So any help with this one would be greatly appreciated.

There are 165 cards in the base set and include some great rookies like Donovan McNabb, Edgerrin James and Tim Couch. Yeah I threw him on here.

I will be updating my numbers for this set soon.

$25 A Week Challenge Week 13:90's And Today

Another week is over and you know what that means, another week of additions for a value under $25.

First up, I found these 90's jersey cards. What's interesting about these, they are called team threads but have no specific player wearing them, no word if they are game used.

From my research after the purchases, they have a replica jersey swatch embedded that is not game used or even worn by the player. Must be where some of the companies today got their idea from for player worn jerseys.

  

First up, Eddie George I grabbed for $2 shipping

Up next, Kauffman for $1.25 plus .99 shipping

And then a Davis for $5 plus .99 shipping. I originally thought about doing a set up until I found out they are not game worn. I should had known by the price. I will say though, incredible design and good size swatches especially on these 1998 ones of Kauffman and Davis. They should do these designs for companies today.

I needed this Daniel Jones rookie so for $3 plus $2.90 shipped for an Optic, I will take that.

And then I grabbed this Dwayne Haskins Prizm for my Prizm rookies for $5. Haskins showed some life down the stretch and took control as the Redskins QB. Should be a good year 2.

Overall this week, I went under $25 again with $21.13.

What will I pick up next week, only time will tell. You just never know what you will see me find.

Breakin' Wax:1999 Absolute SSD Football 2-Pack Break (INSERT FIND!)

 

In one of my $25 A Week challenge post, I showed off these packs I recently snagged off of eBay pretty cheap. Hobby Boxes go for $95 and over and this pack lot was around $2 a pack. I did good.

So for this post I decided to rip open two packs and see how it goes. Why not them all? Well, I come to find myself holding a pack or two time to time now from my youth. Some of these packs are getting harder to find today and I want them on hand just in case I need a nostalgic rip.

Let's see how the first pack went. There are four cards per pack and chances at inserts and a possible Barry Sanders autograph. I wouldn't ever expect that.

Checklist. Great looking card with the design being a clipboard and acetate window.

Chris McAlister could sure shut down some WR's in his day.

 

I pulled so many Eric Moulds cards back in the 90's. He wasn't the greatest player, but also wasn't too shabby. Stayed in the league awhile.

Not a great rip, let's look at pack two!

Sweet! A big time player checklist with multiple great players on it. Also red which isn't a rare one by any means as the base set comes in Blue, Green, Orange, Purple, and Red with Orange being the tougher pull of the group.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET 1:19 pack pull of Steve Young Absolute Force. Very excited about this one!

I gotta admit, I want to build the base set but I also kind of want to rip into the final packs but will hold out.....for now.

The trip back in time opening these again was worth it for me. Then to find a Steve Young insert on top of that, mind blown.
