Burbank Pickups Of The Month:April 2022 Edition

My latest mail day from Burbank Sportcards Beckett Marketplace took me on a trip to the 90's.

I will always take that trip 100% of the time and wished it was a real-life trip.

A 90's insert trip works for now though.

It's amazing how I am lead to certain inserts or products. I don't specifically look up these inserts, they just happen to find me. If I think they are cool, I will add them to the card.

Just like these 1999 E-X Century E-Xtrodinary inserts that fell 1:9 packs. The design reminds me of the bubble insert that Topps used in its Bowman inserts. This one has more of a lenticular feel to it than those did.

There wasn't a huge selection of players but I did grab one of each they had available.

I know what you are thinking and I agree, they just don't make them like they used to. Today's inserts are way too plain. If these existed today they would be considered case hits which are the only cool inserts made now-a-days.

The next round of cards I actually needed for my set chase, but I was once again led to them as I forgot I had started this set chase.

Rookie Rising fell 1:11 packs back in 1997 Zenith, the last year of the awesome product of the 90's.

I found four I needed for my set including a Giants one I didn't know existed in the set,

$25 A Week Challenge Week 4:Trippin' Back To The 90's

This week's $25 A Week Challenge is a bit more recent pickups as opposed to previous episodes. Mainly because I had to upload the photos and was being lazy about putting together the older ones this time even though there is some great stuff to uncover.

So as everyone well knows from reading this blog, I love the 90's and shiny stuff. I recently found seller trying to unload a ton. There were no bids and free shipping and those two things were up my alley so I put in the base bidding on won them.

Here's what I was able to snag for cheap,

1997 Topps Chrome Refractor Waters for $1.05

Frerotte won't be ramming his head into Giants stadium with this snag for .99

Dwayne Bates rookie refractor from 1999 Topps Chrome .99

Cecil Collins Topps Chrome refractor for .99

Bowman's Best Best Cuts refractor for $1.63. This one believe it or not actually had a few bids on it.

2000 Bowman Chrome refractor By Selection with Steve McNair for .99

This was .49. Can't pass up an atomic refractor for that

Another atomic, this one was .99

Bowman's Best Kyle Brady Rookie Refractor .99

The secret is out! I am starting a super collection of Kerry Collins and this one was for .99. Not a bad start to the new PC.

Well, that was it from one seller. But, I had cash to spend, so here was the rest.

1996 Collectors Edge Game Ball that was actually game used. I thought they didn't do game used footballs til 97 or 98, so that was a nice surprise. Card is beautiful too.

Back of the card. Even snagged it with free shipping for $4

 

Darius Slayton auto. I said, hey why not for $2.25+$3.66 shipping.

 

And something non card, a full size Darkwing Duck Saint Vincent Souvenir stamp sheet. Darkwing is leaping at Quackerjack and I was able to make an offer of $1.50 with free shipping for it so I will take that.

Today's grand total is.......$21.51. I had some cash left over, but didn't want to overdo it so will settle for this.

You see all that I grabbed for the cheap price, so what would you have grabbed this past week for $25?

$3 Co-Signer Pickup

My search for hard-to-pull and I couldn't afford at the time insert/autograph pulls from the 90's chase continued. This time my search led me for a 1997 Topps Stadium Club Co-Signer card that I believe was the first dual signed card.

These front/back signed autographed cards fell at a rate of 1:70 packs in 1997. That was a year where I ripped through a few boxes of the product and never hit one. Though back then that wasn't my reasoning for opening it as Stadium Club had a superb base card design and some nice inserts that year. I will show one of those in an upcoming 90's Flashback post. In the meantime, I will show you my newest pickup.

Upon searching Co-Signers on eBay, which by the way are not cheap, I stumbled upon one on sale for $3. Not to mention FREE SHIPPING. How could I not pick it up? And it wasn't like I didn't know at least one of the players on the card. I actually saw a lot of him in the 90's in my packs.

So here it is, $3 and glorious! Love the rainbow foil and wished they had done it front and back but it is still an impressive looking card.

Glad to have crossed this one off my want list. Now onto the next part of my 90's card journey. Where that will lead me, only time AND money can tell.
