ONLY One More To Go!

For anyone who has ever chased a sport card rainbow, you know the struggle is real.

Usually the struggle is finding the lowest numbered cards.

That isn't the case in my chase for the complete 2022 Score Kenny Golladay rainbow.

I already had the 1/1. I already had the /6. I had both /10s.

But, what I didn't have, is the /99 and the /399.

You would think with as many packs as many rip now-a-days that it would be easy to find the higher numbered needs.

It's not.

Finally with some two-years of patience, one of the final two popped up.

The Electric /99 parallel looks as stunning as the name states.

 

And fills in the empty gap that I had nicely.

Now onto finding the last missing piece. Just hoping it doesn't take two-years like this one did.

My First Full 90's Rainbow

In the 90's, we didn't have 35 parallels in any set compared to some of today's products. Even the chromed products had only a couple at most. 

When I was recently checking out Burbank Sportcards Beckett Marketplace, I ran into a product I didn't know had some many parallels.

1999 Playoff Prestige SSD was a product loaded with parallels for its time. There were five to chase overall and was probably the most parallels I have seen in a product since Pinnacle Certified.

The base card, which by the way looks spectacular as is, was not numbered.

But, all of the spectrum parallels were randomly inserted into packs and numbered to 500.

All of the cards look spectacular side by side. Graham was the only Giants player I could find on Burbank that had the entire run.

Riding The Rookie Wave

Randomly inserted in packs of 2021 Playoff, was the Rookie Wave insert line.

As soon as I saw one of the cards, I had to see if a Giant existed on the checklist because I was hooked on the design.

On the checklist was Giants rookie WR Kadarius Toney. I knew I had to have it, so just like that I went and got myself a copy. The theme of the card along with the actual wave makes this card attractive to me.

When I found out the card also had parallels, that's when my next chase began. I told myself early on in my chase I wasn't going to do the whole rainbow look as it would probably be expensive to do so, but I did tell myself to chase as many as I can.

So I did.

Silver

Purple

Red

Blue

Pink

Die Cut

All together at this point.

There is also a Gold /10 my buddy @90sNicheFBcard nicely grabbed for me that I will get at some point.

So all that remains is the Touchdown parallel 1/1. I didn't expect to get this close to the rainbow but now that I am there, I have to finish it right?

Landon Some Collins

I decided I wasn't really a fan of Unintentional Rainbow segment, so instead I will embed those cards in their own posts.

Such as today's cards that I got from Shane in my latest trade with the Cheap Wax Wednesday guru.

Landon Collins was drafted by the NY Giants in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft and was one heck of a player. Which is why it was so surprising they let him walk away in 2018 to the rival Washington Football Team (I will never get used to calling them that)

And even though he isn't on the team, I am still more than happy to add his cards such as these 2015 Topps Chrome parallels.

I considered looking at doing a rainbow chase, but looking at his prices and the fact not a lot of them are out there it seems near impossible to do. But, if I see a few laying around here and there I may just add them.

The Catch Heard Around The World

Eli is back to throw, tosses it up deep over the middle....TYREE WITH THE GRAB! How did he ever catch that between multiple defenders and with the ball pinned to helmet and Rodney Harrison hanging all over him??!

We will never fully know.

I think it was God's hand helping hold that ball there.

No matter how you feel that ball stayed there, it did and it drove the Giants to the biggest upset in Super Bowl history beating the 18-0 Patriots.

It's a game and moment that will live on in my mind forever.

When my buddy Valley Of Cards passed along this gold Legends card from 2019 Plates and Patches, it began to move me in a rainbow direction. It was such a moment I would like to watch over and over again. So I will through cardboard.

I then looked for the rest of the parallels. Found this blue /60

Purple /35

and the red /10. Which has a fun story behind it. When this card popped up I immediately offered the seller the starting price on it which was $4. They declined and countered with $15. I countered with $8 and then they countered with $10. I just didn't feel the card would go that high knowing it's David Tyree so I played the waiting game which I was hoping would pay off. Well, it didn't. The seller won the battle and I landed this for $12.50 which was more than I thought it would go for.

All I am missing from the rainbow is the Green /25 (I have this one now since I typed this up) and Gold 1/1.

Hopefully they will pop up at some point and come reasonably.

Scored:Grady M Mail Day Part 4

As I have stated, my collecting funds are way down this year and what funds I have had, I have used to ship prizes or trade items with. So I haven't been able to bust much.

But, one product I was able to open was 2016 Score football which was absolutely spectacular...in my opinion. Every insert and base set has their own form of "rainbows" and in this mail day I was able to add some new parts of my insert rainbows and wondering how far I should go in trying to chase down more of these.

Some great 2 card starts throughout with some top notch players..

 

Numbered versions for Richard Sherman and Fitz.

 

This is the gold Edelman numbered version.

 

Gold Zones. These are numbered to 99.

 

Red Zones are numbered to 35. Nice Amari Cooper here and McCoy is an Artist Proof numbered to 50.

 

Showcase of Percy Harvin. These are numbered to 99 as well.

 

 

I really enjoyed this part of the mail day as I added quite a few new cards and got a solid start on some Score rainbows. There was one card however left off of here on purpose, that one will be showcased later on in this series....

A SUPER Heartwarming Birthday Present

If you didn't read my post on Saturday, I stated how it was my birthday and that I wasn't sure what was in store for me. Well, it was probably the most shocking moment ever.

For the last few months, I assumed my much sought after Rueben Randle Superfractor to finish up my 2012 Topps Chrome rainbow had been sold. I actually posted about it awhile back. Well, come to find out, the buyer(s) were my family. 

After I had told my wife that the one card I was short of on my Rueben Randle rainbow and the only one in it's existence had made it's way on eBay possibly for a last time, she waited til I was out of the room and began texting family members to help me acquire this piece as a birthday present. Many deleted text message conversations later (so I wouldn't read them on her phone by mistake as she told me the story), they were all able to pull together the purchase and left me speechless on Saturday as I thought the card had slipped my grips forever.

This card not only completes my first rainbow, it also is my first Super and the first time in a long time I was able to accomplish a HUGE feat in the hobby. Now if only Rueben can remain a Giant.

I can now officially say, I am the only one in the hobby that can own the 2012 Topps Chrome rainbow of Rueben Randle. Not sure how many would say that in the first place or would be proud to, but I am.

 

So here is that rainbow (wished the pics were a bit better)....

 

 

 

 

 

Now the question I must ask myself, how do I top my family's want lists this year? Do they make 1/1 candles? 1/1 saws? 1/1 gardening tools? 1/1 mechanic tools? It will be tough to match, but hopefully I can fulfill some needs for them.

Gone, But Not Forgotten

There it was right at my fingertips, the missing piece to my 2012 Topps Chrome Rueben Randle rainbow, the Superfractor.

The 1/1 beauty would had been the final touch on my rainbow while also acting as my first Super. I hadn't seen the card listed in years. There was no way I could miss it again could I??....well yes I had to.

The problem was, financially I couldn't afford it and couldn't find a way around it. Within a few hours, I watched it slip away possibly forever. Sadness settled in and I tried to re-focus on collecting before putting this post together wondering if other collectors had to face this situation.

Now I gotta ask, have you ever had that one card you needed that you had to watch slip away due to finances, someone beating you to it or other reasons? Let me know below!

My FIRST 90's Rainbow..COMPLETE! MUST SEE!

Yesterday, I showed you how far I have come on my Rueben Randle rainbow. Today, I am going to show you a secret rainbow I have been working on.

A few months ago I opened up three packs of 1997 Totally Certified football and fell in love with the product all over again. Then it hit me, why don't I take my love of it and put it a step further by trying to complete a rainbow? My first 90's rainbow!

Then came the biggest decision of all, which player should I do? In those three packs I did pull a Robert Smith Platinum Red and Platinum Blue. I already had 2/3 of what I needed. It seemed obvious to me at that point I should try to get the gold of him and fill my rainbow needs....well.....all sounded good til I looked him up on eBay and saw that prices of his Platinum Gold were ranging up to $50. It was something I didn't have to spare at the time. So I began looking through my pack for the next player and finding them at $50+, then the next and the next and the next. All of them were $50+. But, I understand why as well. These bad boys fell at a rate of 1:79 packs and were all numbered to 30. They were rare and tough to find.

Disappointment started to kick in after a few more player look ups. I took a few days off from looking them up in hopes that something would change. Well, it did when one day I looked up one Tim Biabutuka. You know the running back from the Carolina Panthers they drafted in 1996 with high hopes but only turned out to be someone who was injured often and never played more than 12 games in a season. I will say though, he had one of the coolest names in the NFL. Tim was short for Tshimanga,

Well, anyways, I had pulled his Red Platinum from those packs and needed the Blue and Gold. The Blues ran for $5 so that wasn't an issue. Then I began to look up the golds. There were only three listed. Two were the usual $50+, but then one stood out to me. It was $17.95. That's right, $17.95. I just about fell out of my chair and probably would have except I didn't want it to slip away. Well, as you have probably already come to that conclusion, it didn't.

So here it is, my first 1990's rainbow of one Tim Biabutuka. It's a beautiful thing. Especially up close.

 

Yup. I can see you drooling. It is truly a thing of beauty and something I will display proudly.

Someday I hope to complete another. You never know when I might get my hands onto that missing Robert Smith piece.
