Eli's Cardboard:2014 Elite Aspirations Die Cut /90

Welcome to the first Eli's Cardboard post on here.

I have picked up quite a few Eli's recently but wanted to start out with a decent one to kick off this segment on here.

Panini has been known never to put odds on their inserts, parallels or hits like Topps does, so I don't know the odds of pulling today's card, I only know it can't be easy with only 90 of them in existence.

This is a 2014 Elite Aspirations Die Cut numbered to 90. I really like the blue shine it has and any cards that match team color are spectacular.

However, I see I will need to be very careful with the corners on this one when I transition it to my Eli Manning binder.

Drop It Like It's Hot

*takes a sip to get ready for today's post. memories are coming back as I look at today's card*

I think we all go through phases in our lives.

This can be a variety of things. It can be the food that we eat, I sure know I eat a lot of things I didn't used to like asparagus and have gotten rid of foods like tuna fish I used to enjoy. It can be what we drink, I used to enjoy soda a lot but now you find me drinking water when I am not having coffee. It can even be TV, I used to love watching horror movies and raunchy comedies but now I am into dramas and non rated R comedies. I guess it's toning down your life as you grow older.

I even went through a lot of phases in music in my life.

Childhood Age 1-17: I listened to whatever was on the radio especially songs I felt were cool like One Week by Barenaked Ladies or Kiss From A Rose by Seal.

Age 18-20: I hit a weird stage where I really enjoyed listening to female singers. Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore (who I had a mad crush on), Spice Girls, TLC, and some under-the-radar groups.

Age 21-24: As I began my career in a meat room, most of my co-workers were into Rap Music so they got me hooked. Every day headliners included Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, 50 Cent, and Nelly.

Age 25-33: My career had started to change and I started to back down from a lot of the rap music. I did some Linkin' Park and Paramore for awhile but mixed in a lot of other stuff as well.

34 til now and probably beyond: I strictly listen to what some would call "the oldies". Music from the 70's, 80's and 90's. Nostalgia driven songs I remember listening to with my father growing up or ones that bring me back memories from childhood. Artists include Elton John, Chicago, The Eagles, Michael Bolton, Rick Astley, Huey Lewis and The News, are among the 100's of artists I listen to now.

Actually, I am listening to Simply Red, "Holding Back The Years" as I am typing this.

Something tells me I should switch up the song today to match what the card featured today.

To keep those memories in my life, I use cardboard to hold onto them as you have seen in previous posts.

When I saw that Snoop Lion, AKA Snoop Dogg, had a card included in the 2014 Allen Ginter base set I had to have it. By the way, Snoop Lion was Snoop Doggs short stage name in 2012 when he was rechristened Snoop Lion by a Rastafari priest in Jamaica and for the release of his new album at the time, Reincarnated.

Even though I don't agree with Snoop's lifestyle, I did enjoy some of his music during the rap time in my life. I always listened to songs like Let's Get Blown, Beautiful and Drop It Like It's Hot.

I can't remember the last time I listened to any Snoop Dogg songs or any rap music in general. I guess it would have been an appropriate time to have at least put one song on while I typed this up. But I will just listen to my oldies, sip my coffee and not eat my tuna fish sandwich instead.

Unintentional Rainbow Chase:2014 Topps Chrome Xavier Grimble

Everyone ready for another Unintentional Rainbow Chase post? Let's do it then!

I bought a lot of 2014 Topps Chrome in hopes to chase as many of the Giants First Round WR Odell Beckham Jr as I possibly could.

But, instead, my luck landed me the Giants undrafted rookie free agent Xavier Grimble. Xavier never hit the field with the team and was cut before the start of the season as the Giants figured out who they wanted as their TE's to replace Pascoe and Myers and Grimble wasn't in their plans.

 

I landed four different parallels of Xavier that year. I guess I will look at it as, once a Giant, always a Giant.

Here are the overall finds for Chrome Refractors in 2014:

Here is what I have so far,

Not too far into this chase, my chase by accident. It shouldn't be too much if I decide to make it a full time chase as I doubt others are seeking him and he is affordable. Being 7 years later though, the super may not be easy to hunt down.

Since the Giants, Grimble has played for 5 other teams with his longest and best stint with the Steelers.

Unintentional Rainbow Chase:2014 Andre Williams

Today's unintentional rainbow chase is brought to you by Andre Williams. Williams was a player I had high hopes for when he came to the Giants after his successful college career. So I loaded up on his cards.

Which led to some unintentional rainbow chases.

First up, Topps flagship. I know there is only two cards but back in the time where Topps didn't do an overabundance of flagship parallels I am not technically too far off.

I am not in a bad position for the 2014 Chrome chase. Williams is affordable but finding that Super after 7 years may be quite the task.

Not sure how far I will chase either of these rainbows but being affordable I may see how far I can get especially on the refractor one.

Random Card Of The Day #3:2014 Topps Odell Beckham Jr

Man, I have no idea why these surprises keep popping up in my mail box, but once again, I was tossed a pancake by the Pancake King, Wes.

This time it was a Rueben Randle Turn Of The Century parallel.

 

Beautiful green shine to this one.

I also didn't have this one which is surprising for a guy who has over 150 of his cards. I wonder if I should turn into a Randle Super Collector after Hampton...maybe not.

One thing I have realized is newer players are not as easy as to collect with so many 1/1's,autographs, patch and jersey cards, manu relics, etc.

Breakin' Wax:2014 Topps Turkey Red Football

My buddy @NYCollects was at it again sending me another surprise mail day. He recently messaged me said he had a little something for my Christmas stocking to open. Well, it was hard not to open it ahead of time and I did so. Even though I feel now I should have waited a little longer just to secure some cards for Christmas I may not get.

He sent me a long of 2014 Topps Turkey Red pack that comes with a guaranteed autograph. This is a product I had always thought about opening but never have.

So let's rip

Every one of these packs comes with 11 rookie cards and one autograph.

I pulled a ton of Tre Mason in 2014. Too bad he never panned out.

Van Noy doing big things on the Patriots defense.I am not sure how they turn no name players into somethings. It's gotta be simply good coaching. Something my Giants are lacking.

Ryan Shazier was a great piece on the Steelers defense before his injury. I hope he comes back strong

Clowney is helping the Seahawks stay up as one of the better teams in the NFC this year.

Jace Amaro was another player I pulled a ton of in 2014. A TON. This is a mini card parallel.

And finally, my hit. A Charles Sims autograph which marks my third autograph of his. Once again, a player I had hoped would pan out.

Thanks goes out to my buddy @NYCollects for the fun rip. I really like the look of the cards and it's fun to know there is an autograph waiting to be found. There are some decent rookies from that class still. I know I was really hoping to find Odell despite not being a Giant anymore. The guy still is talented.

Bleeding Blue From The Top

Football is in my blood. No it really is.

Well, at least it's something I got from my parents.

I love this picture of my parents. It really shows their character. On the walls of their bedroom they hung NY Giants stuff on one wall and Dallas Cowboys stuff on the other. My mom is not one to take pictures so to get her in one and see her unimpressive look on her face when I said, "Smile and Go Giants!" is simply awesome. This is one of the last photos I own she was in other than my high school graduation ones. So this is one I will always cherish.

 

Recently my football blood came through with another trade with my father. Both of us have been chasing the same people recently. Saquon, Judge, Gleyber. For me, football is a year round sport so I am much more passionate about adding new Giants to my collection first.

As everyone knows who reads this blog, I have been on a Saquon run-see what I did there-I want any and all of his cards I can get my hands onto. My father will only trade dupes of players we commonly collect and I will only do the same as well. Like father, like son. Hmmmm. Maybe we are Goofy and Max then of the Goof Troop. Anyways, he has been busting tons of Elite draft packs at Walmart and managed to get doubles of both base and Sp cards of Saquon so I traded for them.

I really like the shine.

 

He also had this Griffey I needed so I added that as well. I hadn't ever seen one of these Ultra inserts.

And in a separate trade roughly a week later, he needed a few cards I had so he could pull off a trade for a Mike Trout rookie card, so I passed them along and got this in return. It wasn't very easy of him to give up being it was his only copy. He pulled this valuable bad boy from a Walmart rack pack. It's numbered to 20. And yes, that's an Odell rookie relic on there. Eight piece rookie relic.

It seems like our trading never ends and I don't ever want it to. I was glad I was able to get him to come back into the hobby after his long hiatus. Other than discussing old times like the photo above, we also get to discuss the hobby as well.
