Breakin' Wax:2014 Topps Turkey Red Football

My buddy @NYCollects was at it again sending me another surprise mail day. He recently messaged me said he had a little something for my Christmas stocking to open. Well, it was hard not to open it ahead of time and I did so. Even though I feel now I should have waited a little longer just to secure some cards for Christmas I may not get.

He sent me a long of 2014 Topps Turkey Red pack that comes with a guaranteed autograph. This is a product I had always thought about opening but never have.

So let's rip

Every one of these packs comes with 11 rookie cards and one autograph.

I pulled a ton of Tre Mason in 2014. Too bad he never panned out.

Van Noy doing big things on the Patriots defense.I am not sure how they turn no name players into somethings. It's gotta be simply good coaching. Something my Giants are lacking.

Ryan Shazier was a great piece on the Steelers defense before his injury. I hope he comes back strong

Clowney is helping the Seahawks stay up as one of the better teams in the NFC this year.

Jace Amaro was another player I pulled a ton of in 2014. A TON. This is a mini card parallel.

And finally, my hit. A Charles Sims autograph which marks my third autograph of his. Once again, a player I had hoped would pan out.

Thanks goes out to my buddy @NYCollects for the fun rip. I really like the look of the cards and it's fun to know there is an autograph waiting to be found. There are some decent rookies from that class still. I know I was really hoping to find Odell despite not being a Giant anymore. The guy still is talented.

What's something you are hoping to find in your stocking to rip a pack of?

The Present And The Past

Last week was a mail day week of epic proportions! There is some stuff I am going to show and others, well, you will have to wait on. I have something special planned with those.

In the meantime, let's check out today's showcase.

My buddy @NYCollects had a few of these Jordan Funko Pops and for some reason or another, I felt obligated to need one. I don[t get it. I couldn't stand MJ growing up. His face was on everything from Got Milk posters to cereal boxes to magazines as he was the NBA. But, as I got older, I learned to appreciate what he brought to the game as nobody brings that now. I don't see LeBron playing with the flu.

Very cool collectible of a legend. Marks only my second Funko in my collection, the other, LT-Lawrence Taylor.

Thanks goes out to @NYCollects for the mail day. I will drop your return card in the mail soon!

My next mail day comes from the great Valley Of Cards. Dude is such a great friend!

Daniel Jones the future and Eli Manning the past all on one card. Great card. I would love an autograph with both guys on it if it looked this sharp. I still have feelings for Eli sitting on the bench for all that he did for NY. But, it was obviously time to move on looking at the teams response since.

Big thanks goes out to  Valley Of Cards for the card. If you haven't yet, click on the link I included to check out their website with a vast of unique memorabilia items and check out their eBay stores here for you collecting needs,

How Do I Sort This?

My recent mail day from my Twitter buddy @NYCollects, not light bulbs this time (you can see that funny article on here by looking up @NYCollects), had me thinking when I go to sort this card, how do I do so?

This card has four players on it. All four play a big role in my Giants collection. Eli Manning I am closing in on 500 cards. Rueben Randle and Odell Beckham Jr have over 200 cards of each player and this is Beckham's rookie year. Andre Williams was a huge PC in terms of the amount of hits I have for him.

However, the way I sort things and mark things down, I can only choose one player. One. So which one do you think I should choose to add this card to the PC of? How would you sort this one?

Let me know in comments and a thanks again to @NYCollects for giving me this card for my collection. Your one good dude!

I Walked The Plank With A Funny Story

I had an unexpected pretty big mail day last week. Finding mail days from @90sNicheFBCard, Bob Walk the Plank, and @NYCollects whose mail day was the biggest surprise of them all.

Here is why @NYCollects mail day was such a surprise.

Back in January, @NYCollects and I pulled off a small trade and being the nice guy he is he planned on mailing a bonus package of freebies as he was trying to downsize his collection. About a week later, it took both of us some time to mail, I got his package in the mail from the trade. All is good right. Well, about a week after that, I saw the mail lady pull up to my front door, they normally leave the packages by the mail box which is slightly down the road, and she was carrying this huge long box.

At first I was a tad excited, then I saw the label which seemed to had been taped on weirdly and the return address and thought, wow, this guy is totally trying to downsize. However I also realized this wasn't the picture of the packages he sent me.

I opened up the box slowly and to my surprise I found some brand new LED lights. So then I thought, this guy must really be trying to downsize :0

Upon checking out the package, I could see another address on there where it was really supposed to go back in December before Christmas. The label he used to send me the freebies had somehow fallen off the package I should have gotten, got taped onto that persons package of lights that were sent out before my package, and arrived to me a month after they were sent out to the other person. Weird but nothing surprises me anymore with the USPS.

So here I was with these long lights. So I contacted @NYCollects to let him know about the situation which we both could only laugh about. He did his best on his end to figure out the entire situation and to figure out what to do with the lights. Since he never heard anything back about them, well, the new lights were mine. However, I had no where to use them so I donated them to my father in law for his wood shop where he uses those lights.

So a month after that, this week, a the original package which we both thought had been lost in cybermail, arrived. I tried the best I could to hold back the laughter, but I couldn't.

The mail day was well worth the wait as he sent some pretty cool Gmen.

A new Brandon Jacobs for my PC

StarQuest inserts I needed towards my set. A new Hankins, wished the Giants hadn't let him go to Indy and my man Shockey.

90's love and I loved it. Look at the Stadium Club Sehorn and design of it. Great photography.

The 90's had some fun brands that weren't mainstream and a lot of them were made by Pacific who were geniuses at the time.

Another Stadium Club, some metal and a nice Score Amani Toomer.

Charles-show me the-Way. Loved my big bully full back. Giants haven't really had a good one in a few years.

And to end it without some football, a really cool acetate non sport insert. Dig it!

A big thanks to @NYCollects for the mail day. Give the dude a follow to. Good guy all around.

Up next, is my first ever mail day from Bob Walk the Plank.

All I can say is that you never forget your first.

Some Davis Webb love. Didn't have any of these.

Odell! Matt did well as I only had one of these cards. Really dig the Prizm Draft Picks card.
Other Gmen. I believe this is my first base card rookie of Travis Rudolph. A guy I kind of had a man crush on this season.

Landon Collins Chrome rookie, a trio of Gmen and an Evan Engram rookie.

Shiny stuff too. Didn't have the Eli and I love me some Crusades. Best looking insert out there right now especially by Panini.

A couple of rookies-Harrison and Apple-and a couple of Giant handsmen.

Whoa! Paul Perkins /10!! It's also the first one out of 10. XR was one of my favorite busts of 2017.

And if a /10 wasn't enough, a two color patch auto from Certified of Perkins. Very nice looking card.

Thanks Matt! That was one plank I don't mind walking again. (there are a ton of us with that name as bloggers so sometimes I feel like I am thanking myself when I get a mail day from one). I hope to hit you up again with another mail day soon. I have a stack that needs to go out to many.

From The 90's Til Today

My December in 2017 was pretty epic when it came to pulling off trades and adding to my Giants collection. Not to mention the mind blowing consecutive days of finding cardboard in my mail box. I can't remember a month or year when that has happened. Most of it was planned by me as I wasn't expecting anything for Christmas and wanted to fill in the gap and some wasn't. Either way it was a really exciting month.

January 2018 started out a little show but recently has started to pick up. It's momentum I hope that will continue for the rest of the year.

Last week I pulled in two pretty nice mail days in from trades. My first one is from @NYCollects on Twitter. He and I pulled off a trade back in December but neither of us got around to mailing til January.

I had hoped to grab all of the NY Giants cards he had available, but didn't have enough stuff he was interested in so had to narrow my pick to three cards. But, they were really solid ones.

First card was this 2014 Topps Strata Odell Beckham Jr patch card /25. Great design and nice two-color patch.

Next add was this Sterling Shepard 2016 Prestige rookie autograph add. I think him and Odell will make quite the combo in 2018. Sterling showed some potential in 2017 putting up some decent numbers in a flat offense.

Final card was this 1999 Stadium Club Chrome refractor of Dan Marino for my 90's PC. Great looking card and wished I could have captured the shine a little better on here.

A big thanks goes out to @NYCollects for the trade!

My next mail day was a bit of a surprise as I was working a deal out but never fully succeeded yet. However, @SportsCardMania mailed me my stuff ahead of time and the ball is officially in my court to give back. Which hopefully I will be able to in the next couple of weeks.

Anyways, let's take a look at my scores.

Parallel from 2017 Panini of Brandon Marshall. I am hoping he actually doesn't return next year. He made no impact on this offense when he was playing before he got hurt. Seems like a waste of cap space to me that could be used for oline help.

Two Giants "stars" of the 90's. The Hilliard I didn't have from Crown Royale and the Hampton I have, but it's my favorite designed card of his. Actually that design is easily my Top 3 favorite card design of all time.

Ron Dayne who was supposed to be the next Giants great, but was actually not so great except for maybe one season. Mark Brunell was one of my favorite QB's of the 90's I loved to watch. The way he used his feet and how smooth his throwing style was for a lefty was so much fun. He also led a Jags team pretty far as well almost reaching a Super Bowl with them.

Some Optic parallels. Cruuuuuuuuuz I wished could have stayed with the Giants, but I understand why they had to let him go with all of his injury history. The guy could ball though in his prime. Someone who may never see their prime on this team is Paul Perkins who never panned out like I thought he would.  It appears Darkwa and Gallman are the go-to right now unless the Giants decide to use their pick on Barkley. However this Perkins is some help towards my potential rainbow chase.

Love, love, loved these. Paydirt inserts that fell 1:4 packs back in 1995 Skybox Premium. Great overall product. This is a set I am working on.

Well, I spoke how I felt about Brunell earlier, it was only an obvious thing that I needed to add his rookie to my PC and here it is,

And finally, I was surprised when I saw that Shane had a new Hampton I needed. I have the members only parallel of this card but not the base version. Well, that is no longer the case as this one is now in my possession.

A thanks is due to @SportsCardMania for the mail day. Hopefully I can find something you don't have and make a return mail day soon.

This mail day provided a lot of new cool adds from my collecting beginnings, Brunell in 1993 til some newer stuff of today, the Marshall. I think mail days like this are fun as you can compare stuff from today til back then. I am however very bias on that subject, I will always go 90's first. That's a topic for another day and another post however.
