Rodney's Cardboard:1995 Pacific Prism Gold

Welcome back to another week of Rodney's Cardboard.

Before I start to ramble on about today's card, I thought I would give my wife a shout out on her birthday.

Happy Birthday honey! Hope you have a great day at work!

Now onto some cardboard.

Today's Rodney I was a little surprised took so long to find. I have been looking for this card since I started collecting Rodney 4 years ago as it never seemed to pop up. And it's not like the parallel is impossible to find. These 1995 Pacific Gold Parallels fell 2:37 packs but with only one card per pack, I guess that helps drive up the odds some.

My one fear was when I finally found this Rodney, it was going to be like a few other parallels I have let sit on eBay for a few years where it was upwards of $18 which I don't feel like investing that much.....YET.

Odds were in my favor though for a few bucks I was able to snag it.

Golden shine vs the silver shine of the regular base. Rodney looks as tired as I did chasing this one.

Card back.

When I compare the two Prisms, I actually think the base looks better than the gold. Just me.

Let's Talk About Sets 27:1995 Studio Gold Baseball

Sometimes it takes credit cards and gold for me to do sets.

That's exactly what got me drawn to 1995 Studio Gold.

Beautiful cards using player stats for it's credit card layout.

 

There are 50 cards in the set, there is a silver version as well with just as many cards that I only have one card of, but the gold one I have this many of,

3,6,9,10,11,12,13,15,17,26,27,28,29,31,32,34,39,41, 48,49,50,

But luckily thanks to @CardpocalypseNC, I was able to knock two more down including a Griffey I surprisingly didn't have.

Rodney's Cardboard:2018 Select Gold Autograph

If you haven't noticed, I changed the name to this series to Rodney's Cardboard instead. I think by now people know I am cornering all of the Rodney Hamptons so I wanted a quick name change for this series.

Here's is the latest Rodney Hampton Select autograph I have in hand. I say in hand, as I have a few Select others, see what I did there, in the hands of trader buddies I haven't pulled off trades for yet. But, when I do, they will be added to this series.

In the meantime, check out today's great looking card thanks to @90sNicheFBcard. I tried to capture it the best I can using the camera and light angle, but you just can't do it sometimes.

Sharp signature again.

Big time eBay 1/1 right here, 10/10!

Rodney's Cardboard:2019 Legacy Gold Autograph

I know a lot of collectors seem to think box breakers are in it for the money most of the time, but not all are. There is at least one I know of who is into breaking because of the hobby. That guy is Ben over at Midwest Box Breaks.

I don't need to even tell you this myself. Ask around. His reputation is known for a guy who likes to help others in the hobby. It's probably why he has survived in the land of so many breakers and just celebrated one year in the biz. He has a group of guys on an app called Discord that's a great group, he slashes prices for newbies, tosses in extras, donates cards, simply gives stuff away and recently was a middle man in a trade I made with one of his customers. He let me know who pulled a Rodney Hampton, then connected us and it worked out great.

@AngelEyez2469 and I pulled off an easy, fast trade for the Hampton I needed. Unlike the last guy who was trying to trade me a Legacy Hampton autograph and claimed he would be easy to trade with. He wasn't. He valued Rodney way up and it just didn't work out which is fine because this one did and the one he had can be found on eBay for much cheaper.

So without further ado, here is the Rodney Hampton Panini Legacy gold parallel auto!

The base card looks great, but these foil/prizm cards look amazing!

The back shows it's numbered to 50.

Ben was also the one who still had the card when we completed the trade so it came right from him. Not only did he send that card, but threw in this cool inflatable for my Giants collection. It's going right on the shelf.

Sunday's With Rodney:1996 Topps Finest Gold

There were a few products of the 90's that I had to buy with every release, one of those is Finest and as you know as an avid reader of SCC, at least I hope you are, that anything chromed or has a refractor is where-it's-at for me.

In 1996, Topps Finest released their base set into three subsets. Brozne (common), Silver (uncommon) and Gold (rare). Surprisingly with all of my busting of the product, I never once pulled a gold. I did land some refractors and refractors of even Silver, but never a plain-ole-gold base card.

Well, thanks to 90's Niche Football Card Blog, I have finally added my first one and it knocks off a card need from the Hampton Want List.

 

 

You can see the word Rare on the back of the card as well. I am not technically familiar with how tough it was to land a gold, I can't imagine a base version was as tough as a refractor, but I am glad to finally have one and one that really helps towards my PC.

Totally Excited! Rainbow Complete!

One of the biggest keys to my Hampton collection isn't collecting a bunch of jersey and autograph cards, cause honestly, he doesn't have a lot out there, it's collecting those rare 90's inserts. One of those rare inserts is a Totally Certified Gold parallel /30. Well, that's no longer a need.....

Now that I have the gold, I now have the three-card rainbow. (I will post them all together at some point)

This may be one of the tougher inserts of the 90's to get, but there are others I will need to chase down of Hamptons at some point.

Breakin Wax:2014 Topps Football Hobby Box

While mostly everyone was at The National, I took a look at dacardworld searching for deals.

One of those deals was the Deal Of The Day which happened to be a hobby box of 2014 Topps Football. An amazing price at $27 and I am always in need of Odell Beckhams, so I snatched it up.

Now it's time to break it!

This won't be my usual episode of Breakin Wax with breaking down the product as a whole, as this time I am mainly focusing on the pulls since I have already done a couple Breakin Wax of this product.

Up first, I bring the boom. At least to me it is. It also happens to be the best pull of the box, a GOLDell Beckham. I mean a Odell Beckham gold parallel. The gold parallels fall at1:10.

A Reggie Bush is amongst my gold parallels as well.

Pulled a Salute To Service that falls1:52 of Vernon Davis.

Then found a Pink, that falls at 1:42, of Marvin Jones.

I continued my luck of parallels with this black of Brett Keisel. They fall 1:63.

And finally my hit of the box was Michael Egnew. Ooooops sorry, seems that TE's are a normal pull in boxes and to no surprise I pulled a relic. I have yet to hit an autograph in a box of Topps.

Overall, not a bad break, not a great break. But the cost was so low I had to take a shot. My happiest pull was obviously the Gold Beckham. The rest of the break wasn't great. But I also did get a base rookie of Odell amongst the other top ones so can't complain too much.

90's Rip Party: Spx Football 1997 Hobby Box Part 2: THE INSERTS!

Yesterday, I broke a box of  1997 Upper Deck Spx Football and showed off the base cards from the product. Today, I move onto the sweet inserts.                

Now most inserts in the product were tough pulls except the gold parallels that fell every 1:9 packs. On a normal box basis it's more than likely you would just get the four of those. However, in this box break I lucked out and pulled something a little tougher. I did manage to only land three golds, but the last pull from the box was well worth it.

Now onto the hits!

One of my favorite QB's of all-time was Kerry Collins. I was glad to have had him on the Giants at one point.

This was a great find. Dan Marino gold is the best gold parallels you could get from the product:

And then came the BOOM! Jerry Rice HoloFame 1:75 packs. I was screaming like a little girl when I found this.

You combine all of the star power from the base cards, the gold Dan Marino and than the big pull of the Rice and you my friends have yourself a great box break. I couldn't have asked for more from a break and don't think I have been this satisfied with any box I have opened in a long time.
