Mail Day Triple Header

Have a triple header of mail days that arrived last week I needed to get posted. It's a mix of a little bit of everything.

First up, I have fallen into the Zion faze some. Well, just needed a rookie card so luckily my buddy at Valley Of Cards provided me one.

  

It's from 2019-2020 Panini Instant. I hope to at least get a Hoops one as well. Need at least one rookie card of every key player. Thanks goes out to Valley Of Cards for helping me out.

I was recently in a three-box mixer break with Midwest Box Breaks and landed the Redskins. Couldn't complain about possibly pulling a Haskins except I didn't. My only card from the break was this Joe Theismann.

 It's a beautiful card and is numbered to 5, so not too shabby.

But, being the way Ben is, he tossed in a couple of freebie items. This is probably the best key chain I bet he has handed out ;)

 and a Topps Finest refractor /50 for my non sport PC.

My final mail day was more of a Twitter-claim-generosity type of thing.

I have mentioned before on here how generous and awesome that @imqualifying has been to me in the past with sick 90's inserts and NY Giants cards. Well, she hit me up with my first Golden Tate Giants card. I didn't have one at all til now and what a kickoff to having one.

Ramming My Mail Box

I was recently in a very affordable random team mixed box break from my friends over at Midwest Box Breaks. I was hoping to hit it big and land a top notch autograph hit hopefully from a legend I need. Well, luck wasn't fully my way as usual when I am in a break. I landed the Rams, which is the second time I have done so in four breaks, and missed out on a few great hits from other teams in the break.

But, at least I didn't go home with just base like last time.

2019 Elite. My first look at the product. Doesn't look to shabby as Panini stuck to the basics here with the base card design.

Todd Gurley who I hope is healthy and will continue his dominant career. I think he may have made a difference in last years Super Bowl and the Rams wouldn't have had to throw so much which is the real reason they lost that game.

Speaking of Gurley, nice three color patch I landed from 2016 Black Gold. That product looks superb!

Rodney's Cardboard:2019 Legacy Gold Autograph

I know a lot of collectors seem to think box breakers are in it for the money most of the time, but not all are. There is at least one I know of who is into breaking because of the hobby. That guy is Ben over at Midwest Box Breaks.

I don't need to even tell you this myself. Ask around. His reputation is known for a guy who likes to help others in the hobby. It's probably why he has survived in the land of so many breakers and just celebrated one year in the biz. He has a group of guys on an app called Discord that's a great group, he slashes prices for newbies, tosses in extras, donates cards, simply gives stuff away and recently was a middle man in a trade I made with one of his customers. He let me know who pulled a Rodney Hampton, then connected us and it worked out great.

@AngelEyez2469 and I pulled off an easy, fast trade for the Hampton I needed. Unlike the last guy who was trying to trade me a Legacy Hampton autograph and claimed he would be easy to trade with. He wasn't. He valued Rodney way up and it just didn't work out which is fine because this one did and the one he had can be found on eBay for much cheaper.

So without further ado, here is the Rodney Hampton Panini Legacy gold parallel auto!

The base card looks great, but these foil/prizm cards look amazing!

The back shows it's numbered to 50.

Ben was also the one who still had the card when we completed the trade so it came right from him. Not only did he send that card, but threw in this cool inflatable for my Giants collection. It's going right on the shelf.

Cardboard From The Midwest

Score football is one of my favorite releases every year and I always make sure to grab some in some form.

I do kind of wished that Panini would wait a little longer on the release like they used to that way all of the rookies would be found in NFL uniforms and not college, but will take it as it is.

But, it's out and I had a spot in a Midwest Box Break hoping for a repeat performance of my last break with them. Remember the Barkley auto? yeah, I was hoping Daniel Jones auto was waiting for me in here.

This years edition celebrates 30 years of Score and it's amazing 1989 release. So Panini did some throwback look backs and it starts with the base set.

 I really like the look of these.

And they have some amazing photography as well. By far this Saquon Barkley is my favorite base card.

 Saquon was by far a Fantasy Star and one for my team last year.

And finally, Epix makes its return this year in Score. However, falls waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay flat of the 90's version. It's just some foil this time However, I did land all three Saquon Barkley versions. I am not sure if one is harder than the other or not to find.

And that's it. No hits to brag about this time. Actually Score gave me a reason not to want to break a box and be happy with having all of the Giants cards I need. Watching that six box break was brutal. Only a handful of names I knew were pulled but one was a /10 auto of Baker Mayfield so that was cool. The rest were a bunch of no namers and practice squad players. It was worrisome.

Thanks to Midwest Box Break for another fun experience. Hopefully my next break will finally land me a Jones auto. Still in big need of one. 

Rodney's Corner:2018 Select Tie Dye Autograph

Time to cue the ABC Bumper For Commercial break

with the newest segment, Rodney's Corner. This new segment will feature all of my newest Rodney Hampton additions. This will still stick with the 90's because it's the era Rodney was from and why I collected him.

The newest addition comes in thanks to my friends over at Midwest Box Breaks, check them out if you haven't yet, with one of the cards from the 2018 Select product I needed.

Look at the beauty! Rodney's signature actually isn't too shabby either.

This is the base Tie Dye autograph /25.

I have plenty more from this set to show off. Actually, I will spill the beans now if you don't check out my Rodney Hampton tab, I am only the Green base /5 and both base black 1/1 and die cut 1/1 away from having them all. Pair that with the 2018 Illusions purple 1/1 autograph and that's the only autographs I am missing of Rodney overall. Really wished that guy had traded me the Select black base 1/1 and not jumped out on the close deal and sell it out from under me.

My Best Hit Ever In A Box Break!

Box breaks haven't been my friend over the years. I haven't been in tons, but the ones I have been in, just base and inserts. I think one time I did hit an autograph.

But, nothing too big. That's probably why I don't get into them very often.

However, my luck changed for once when I jumped in on a 10 box PYT over at Midwest Box Breaks. The funny thing is I grabbed one of the last ten spots which were the teams that hadn't sold yet and there was a bargain price on them. One of those teams, the NY Giants. For some reason or another it was calling me to jump in.

And the hobby Gods rewarded me for doing so. There was a 1:10 chance I could get the Giants in the random and somehow my dream came true. That alone was a good start. Would the break be as good to me?

The first box was pretty decent to me as I landed some base and rookies and even a hit

 

With this Evan Engram relic. One box down, I was pretty happy.

But then came the next eight boxes.  Nothing but a few base and some inserts. Even though two of the inserts were Barkley (same card). However, no Barkley base rookie card. None! That's 8 boxes without a single Saquon Barkley base rookie card!

So here we were, last box. Ben from Midwest Box Breaks makes the comment along the lines of, "boy have the Giants been quiet so far", then the earth shook......a beam of light hit the final box of Playoff and this, yes, this card was discovered....

Holy Saquon Barkley Batman!!!! I was floored. Best hit ever in a box break for me and it was also the best hit of the 10 boxes besides a Marcus Allen/Jim Plunkett auto numbered to 25. There were also two Josh Rosen autographs as well.

Breakin' Midwest Style!

I recently took part in a couple of breaks over at Midwest Box Breaks to see if I could land a big pull like many others have. Sadly, the dice didn't fall my way, my usual luck with breaks, but I did still score some cards so let's see what I got.

I took part in a Phoenix/Illusions football break that was also a charity break for kids. This was done draft style, meaning you weren't assigned a team but you got to choose one depending on what spot you landed in the draft.

There were 64 spots, 32 for each break, and I got to draft 60th. Ugh!! If only I had gotten one of the top two spots where I could have grabbed the NY Giants where sick /10 Saquon Barkley auto patch was pulled. Like I said, they pull nice cards.

Instead, I had to choose between the Jaguars, Raiders and Rams. I took the Jags hoping for some luck. I didn't find any however.  But, I did get some base and a couple parallels as they ship all of the base cards and inserts unless you choose to donate them to Midwest that donates them to kids.

For having such a low pick in the draft, I also got one of these Panini Kickoff packs I have never opened before.

Pulled a PC card at least. That's a win in my book!

The second break I was in was a 2-box random Elite break. Once again the hobby Gods didn't give me the best spot, I got the Saints who are my Super Bowl pick, but I could only hope for a Smith autograph rookie card or a Drew Brees one. Sadly I ended up with three base cards. That's just the way breaks go for me. There were other nice hits however found in the break including a /24 Saquon Barkley parallel rookie card. Sigh.

 

Seeing my luck not go so well, the owner over at Midwest Box Breaks, who is a great dude, tossed in some bonuses for me.

And finally, a dude I was a huge fan of last year and the key card of his I wanted in a Contenders rookie auto is now mine. Travis Rudolph still hasn't made it far despite his potential. Hoping he gets another shot.
