Autograph Card Of The Week:2010 Panini Contenders Tim Tebow

When does collecting too much become too much?

I have a list of PC's longer than I can list on here. Especially when it comes to also explaining why I collect each of the subjects.

For me, today's player is pretty simple. Tim Tebow is a good person, a great college football player, someone who didn't give up on his dream of playing pro sports, and a devoted Christian.

If there is anyone that I think I should look up to, this would be the guy.

So, that is why there is a side Tebow PC. I don't have a lot of cards in that collection, but some decent ones. None better than today's addition from my trade with Shane.

One of Tim's best cards is his 2010 Panini Contenders rookie autograph. It's not one I ever expected to own, but when talking to Shane about our latest trade, to my surprise, he actually owned one.

So, we did a trade and now it's mine.

 

Here is the card back. Bland like the typical Panini hit card back.

Autograph Of The Week: Blake Martinez

Blake Martinez was a tackling machine long before the NY Giants picked him up in the last free agency. A lot of Packers fans said how much they would miss him which only made me even more excited.

It was a long time since the Giants had any linebackers to be excited about.

Then I was concerned a tad that the buildup would be more than the play I would see and luckily I was wrong. He had 140 tackles, 1 int and 3 sacks but him leadership impact also played a big role on a much different looking Giants defense in 2020.

I was looking through my collection and realized it lacked an autograph of Blake.

 

So $3 later, I had one.

I had to make sure it was in a Stanford uniform as I don't want cards in a Packers uniform for my Giants collection and that's all that Panini made for 2020 with a Giants symbol on them. That I don't like either.

With this seasons pickups and what they already had in place, I am very excited to see what Blake and the defense can do in 2021.

Autograph Of The Week:Chris Calloway

  

Despite having well over 6,000 different NY Giants cards and plenty of autographs that takes up that number, there are still some players I don't have signatures of that were pretty easy to acquire.

Take Chris Calloway for example. Pretty affordable, talented but forgot about Giants Wide Receiver who led the team in receiving from 95-98.

Calloway began his career for the Pittsburgh Steelers and played two years there before going to the Giants via Free Agency. That's where he played his 7 best years of football before he ended his career on one year deals with the Falcons and Patriots. Will be honest I didn't know about him being with the Patriots.

I can finally knock Calloway off from my needs list after picking up this card from Burbank Sportcards Beckett Marketplace for $3. I also used 15Burbank and saved myself 10% off. I recommend you do the same.

Autograph Of The Week:Lamar Jackson

It's been a long time since I hosted this segment but I figured it was time to bring it back.

I am also starting out this segment again with a banger, this will not be the case every week as most of the series will be low end autographs, but I wanted to get your attention.

There are two autographed cards I have been seeking to trade for the last three years, one Patrick Mahomes (this will never happen), and the second was Lamar Jackson (another I thought would never happen). But, as you can see, this one actually happened.

How did it happen finally? Well....

@gmccarthy joined my trade thread on Twitter a couple weeks ago and posted some bangers for trade. Among them was a Trout rookie and of course this Lamar Jackson autograph.

I am always a little hesitant pulling off trades with newbies I haven't ever traded with before, especially a huge one like this, but I took the chance and broke out of my box to do so. I am happy I did and may do it again. Not only was @gmccarthy easy to trade with, but he also sent me a handful of amazing extras (I will share this next week) for my birthday.

Autograph Of The Week:Eliza Dushku

Eliza is not only stunning, but she played on some shows and movies I watched with my wife over the years.

The first thing I saw her in was Bring It On. Cheerleaders plus Eliza....

Okay, focus.

She also starred on a great TV series on Fox called Tru Calling which is where I saw her the most. She played Tru Davies who could talk to the dead and save them by re-living her day and preventing that persons death through a variety of clues. The show ended long before it should have after two seasons.

The show also starred Zach Galifianakis and Jason Priestley.

The show also had a great theme song. Go ahead, look it up! 

 

I made an offer to the seller and he accepted almost immediately. I wished I had offered less in that case. Eliza's autographs are really hard to come by and you don't see too many out there listed.

Upon looking her up to see what else she played on, I had no idea she was on Buffy, Angel or True Lies. I do remember her in Wrong Turn.

This autograph will also mark the final one in this series as I don't have anymore incoming but it sure was a lot of fun posting these!

Autograph Of The Week:Alfonso Ribeiro

This may not be a big name to most of you, unless you really recognize the name from the 90's or maybe today I suppose. It depends on what you watch.

To me Alfonso will always be Carlton from the The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air but he played on other shows and hosts Catch-21 on Game Show Network along with hosting the long running Americas Funniest Home Videos. Yeah, it's still on after all of these years. To me that show isn't the same without Bob Saget.

As you know I collect a lot of autographs that pertain to my childhood nostalgia and nothing was better than when Alfonso did the Carlton dance. The song and dance play over and over again in my mind.

 

I wanted his autograph for awhile and wanted the regular Leaf version, but it wasn't as cheap as I found the Family Guy one for so I settled. Was almost half the cost.

I have looked at other autographs from the show, most of which are affordable but can't seem to find a Will Smith. Though I am sure he is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayy out of my range.

Autograph Of The Week:Alex Borstein/Patrick Warburton Dual!

Hello readers!
For a few months now I have been staring at today's autograph card in my watch list. You know, watching it but more in the literal sense.

My main goal of this card was the Patrick Warburton part as I already had an autograph of Borstein but single Patrick cards list for much more. So I found this one cheap and watched it. I was quite surprised it didn't already sell and then the seller offered a markdown. How could I say no at that point?!

Alex played on Mad-Tv with her star role as Ms.Swan and is the voice of Lois Griffith on Family Guy which is the show this card is based on. Patrick played on Seinfeld, Rules Of Engagement (underrated comedy series in my opinion with a star cast) and has voices in about a million shows and movies including Family Guy as Joe Swanson. His voice is one of those you will always recognize. Both actors I really enjoy and both have a part of my nostalgia so I needed this one.

Autograph Of The Week:Mark Brunell

The autograph this week is a common one I have and been adding to all year.

However, this one is a really special one which makes it why it's being posted on Autograph Of The Week instead of being featured in a normal post.

This Mark Brunell I have been watching for over a year and the seller finally put it up for a cheap auction and I was the only bidder.

It's a 1997 Collectors Edge 22KT signed autograph helmet.

I had no idea the concept of helmet cards were used that early, well late, 90's. I always thought it was a 2000's idea but I have come to realize that more and more stuff from the 90's I didn't know existed.

Also realized that this cards is a shadowbox (also note the on card auto). The card features a game used helmet swatch and has the 22K gold foil.

It's another great autograph, 90's PC add and Brunell side PC add.

The odds of pulling one of these was 1:350 packs so not an easy find. There are 5 others to collect. Wonder if I will chase more..... (really not sure as they don't look cheap and not all 6 are to be found) But being this thick I can only imagine if pack searchers existed in the 90's this would be an easy find.

Next week another new autograph, this time we head back to the world of non sports which is what this series is really about. I have three new ones incoming so will have to decide which one.

Autograph Of The Week:Jeremy Miller

A new autograph, another week here on Autograph Of The Week.

Today's autograph is of Jeremy Miller, who played Ben Seaver on Growing Pains. If you grew up in the late 80's and early 90's, most likely you grew up with the Seaver family.

Ben was the rambunctious younger son of Jason and Maggie Seaver and brother to Mike and Carol. The shows basis was about the Growing Pains of raising kids and the challenges that can be faced such as drugs, suicide, peer pressure, and alcohol to name a few. But, in the end, if they were together they could face any problems that arose together.

 

(NICE CLEAN SIGNATURE I LIKE IT) and show me that smile again....

Back of these cards are pretty boring. I wished Leaf would take a minute out and give a bio about the actors that are on the front. What they are famous for, etc.

I am happy to add this one, but I see that Leaf has others from the show including Alan Thicke who passed away. I may chase those down as well at some point. They aren't as cheap as the $5.99 that this Miller went for.

Autograph Of The Week:Eli Manning

We are back again with a new autograph of the week!

Well, I don't think we can call this really a new autograph to be featured on here as I have featured a few of these on here.

Since Eli Manning retired, I have been snagging every autograph of his I can afford. Especially ones that are under $30.

Field Access was such an underrated product and very affordable when it comes to autographs. I think this is my third Eli autograph from it. This time though its a green parallel-

that is numbered to 50.

This marks my third numbered Eli Manning autograph in my PC.

Autograph Of The Week:Steve Guttenberg

I have been snagging up actor and actresses left and right in 2020 that had an impact of some sort of childhood TV watching.

Today's actor auto came from Three Men and a Baby, its sequel Three Men and a Little Lady and of course, Police Academy.

 

I can't imagine there aren't many of you out there who hasn't at least watched one of the Police Academy movies. Some were better than others. 

I remember my dad renting those on VHS and watching them. He was a big comedy fan as opposed to my mother who liked horror. I watched a few of them with my father before watching the rest as I got older. Sad thing is, I will need to give them another watch as I don't remember a whole lot about them.

I hadn't seen Steve in some time in any film or TV, til a couple of years ago when he popped up on The Goldbergs. I didn't recognize him at first because it had been so long but then after reading the cast and seeing who it was I could see it.

Combine his comeback on one of my current favorite comedies with part of my past watching the movies with my dad and that equals an autograph needed. Well, surprisingly for less than $10 I landed this one. I really like the shine and feel Leaf does a great job with their non sport products.

Autograph Of The Week:Wilmer Valderrama

I have seen/heard Wilmer in a lot of TV over the years, but nothing compares to his role as Fez in That 70's Show. I watched it back in the 90's in my much younger years but didn't really appreciate it until I was an adult, especially now.

Every weekend on Laff, a television channel, they re-play all of the episodes so I get the chance at a good laugh which can be needed in today's trying times.

Also, Wilmer has been on one of my favorite shows the last few seasons in NCIS playing special agent Nick Torres. It took me a little while to like his character, but it has grown on me and now I am a fan.

For some reason or another while playing on eBay, a sponsored ad for an autograph card of his popped up. At first, I had no idea he had autograph and then I knew I had to have it.

After some back and forth with the seller, we finally came to a price agreement and I landed this one pretty affordable compared to others.

It's a 2001 Topps American Pie autograph relic.

By the way, I typed this up at the end of March so if this doesn't publish before the NCIS season finale, I don't know what could have happened to his character since NCIS is really good about hiding their plans for the finales.

Autograph Of The Week:Eli Manning Rookie Auto!!

It's that time again, time to show off my latest autograph addition and this one was a big one for me.

Since the beginning of Eli Mannings career, I have been wanting to add an Eli Manning autograph. But, prices were way too high and I could never find one for trade anywhere.

Well, finally one popped up at a reasonable price and with some magic, I was able to snag it.

To my surprise, the card also came along with some bonuses.

First was this Tom Brady Masterpieces. Boy, did Upper Deck do good for football. Wished we could see that again.

then came the big surprise, however, it was damaged. A 1998 Bowman Peyton Manning rookie that apparently stuck in the pack to another card.

And then came the card I wanted, a 2004 Sage Hit graded gold Eli Manning auto /100. I know it's Sage Hit and all, but it's still my very first rookie autograph of Eli after 16 years of wanting one.

I need to update numbers to see where my Eli Manning autograph is at, I believe 7 or 8, but getting closer to my goal of 10! I would like to add a real rookie autograph at some point down the road but am happy with this one for now.

Well that ties up another week and another autograph shown off.

Autograph Of The Week:Cedric The Entertainer

I didn't really start to enjoy Cedric The Entertainer until he was the star of the CBS comedy The Neighborhood which is now in Season 2.

The comedy is about a white family from Michigan that moves into the "hood" and all of the laughs that come from that. It also has many heartwarming moments between the main character Calvin Butler (Cedric) and his "favorite" new neighbor Dave Johnson. Calvin always doubted the arrival of his neighbors and wasn't very welcoming unlike his family was to them. Over the past couple of seasons, you can tell that Calvin's rough exterior has a warm place in his heart for his neighbors.

I stumbled upon this autograph of his featured in Panini Americana and offered the seller a price and they accepted.

He has a solid signature and it's a nice addition to my non sports PC.

Autograph Of The Week:Cyndi Lauper

Collectors just want to have f---un. Oh Collectors just want to have fuuuunnnn.

If it's lost and you look but you can't find it, card after card.....

Show me that rainbow...dig it out and realize..that it's full of colors. That product makes you crazy cause you can't find them all...just call it up on Cardboard Connection. To see it's True Colors parallels.....

My latest autograph of the week comes via an email request which I have enjoyed doing more of than TTM send offs. My success rate is much higher through the email then it's through the mail. I also have landed bigger names this way and don't have to waste a stamp doing so.

Cyndi Lauper had a bunch of hits in the 80's and 90's which you would hear played on the radio a million times when I was a kid.

 

So once again, I dug back into my childhood and wanted an autograph that seemed reasonably within reach and landed it. Once again I went to the experts and they pointed out it's real as can be as others posted their autographs and all compared well. So no preprint here which is always a concern for me as sometimes its hard. 

It's not like you can lick your finger and test it.

Though sometimes its tempting.

Autograph Of The Week:Joe Judge

The last couple of years, I have reached beyond athletes. I just don't care about scoring TTM autographs of athletes.

However, actors/actresses and now head coaches, yes.

The Giants finally fired Pat Shurmur, who is a good coach, just not a head coach, and hired a under the radar guy in Joe Judge who falls from the Bill Belichick tree.

He was a special teams coach for the Patriots who believes in old school football philosophies which I buy right into. A no nonsense kind of guy I think this team has needed since Tom Coughlin left. I really like this hire.

 

So I sent a letter to him to congratulate him and asked if he minded signing the index card I left him. But instead, he sent me back this nice signed photo.

And also added in this letter.

I can't wait to see this team hit the field with him at the helm and hopefully they did enough this offseason to build a winning program. Only time can tell how the roster is and how the coach will carry what they have and how far it will take them.

Autograph Of The Week:Mark Harmon

Welcome back to another Autograph Of The Week.

This week I scored an autograph via email of one of the greatest actors on television right now.

I have watched NCIS with my wife from the beginning. There is no other show that has so many unexpected twists and turns like this one does. Their season finales are some of the best out there.

 

Mark Harmon plays the lead as Leroy Jethro Gibbs who is a top notch special agent who has a rough exterior, but a big heart. He cares for people especially his NCIS family he would go the distance for.

I scored this autograph by email and the turn around was within weeks. I didn't expect it for months. I always like the ones that are inscribed to me so I know it's not a preprint. I also matched his signature up against others that were listed and it seems to be as real as can be.

This is a great add to my non sport PC that continues to grow.

Autograph Of The Week:Paula Abdul

New plug-in segment here on Sport Card Collectors will feature a recent autograph pickup of the week.

This week features a big time artist of the 80's and 90's who had such big hits as "Straight Up", "Forever Your Girl", "Cold Hearted", and "Opposites Attract" and many others. She was also a judge on American Idol back when the show had a big following. Her and Simon Cowell could have some fun interactions.

I had forgotten that Panini included her in the 2015 Amerciana release until one recently popped up affordable, and it was a blue parallel. I liked a few of her songs back in the day and just had to grab it.

She has a pretty legible signature.
