MMMB:Go Go Penny Sleeves!

 

I don't do a lot of reading now-a-days but when I do it has to be something that is a complete draw-in for me such as other blogs and something that has a connection to my childhood.

I think Jon from A Penny Sleeve For Your Thoughts must have known this secret when he mailed me a really amazing book just after Christmas.

The book, Alien Encounters In Angel Grove, captures all of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers monsters they battled through the seasons I watched. They are also all in order of when they appeared which is also really cool.

 

Here is the back cover of the book.

On the inside as I said it captures all of the monsters and alien villains the heroes had to battle over time.

Each page breaks them down with their name, which person created them and what their known abilities are. Pumpkin Rapper was one of my favorites. 

But not as much as Lord Zedd. That dude rocked and was the most iconic alien monster on the series in my opinion. I still need to get his base figure and not just the light up one I have.

This was one of his first monsters he created when he stepped in for Rita who wasn't having any luck in trying to defeat the Power Rangers.

And speaking of Zedd and Rita, how about Rita's father Master Vile who stepped in when Zedd and Rita couldn't conquer Earth. Must have been fun working alongside him....not.

Another thing I haven't mentioned yet is that I have been re-watching the entire Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series on Netflix when my internet allows me to. I am on about episode 20 or so with many more to go. If my internet was only better I may be a lot further.

Forgotten Claims

Awhile back, I must have claimed some cards over at A Penny Sleeve For Your Thoughts blog and had forgotten until they arrived last week.

Which is nice as I do like surprises, who doesn't?

A year after Super Rookie and a 1990 Score Hampton rookie towards my 100 card chase.

A set need! Anytime I can cross one off it's exciting.  I still need to do some updating on here for some sets.

I was always a fan of these Steel cards from Leaf, cards printed on metal. This is only the second one in my collection as Griffey is my other.

I can never turn down a refractor. NEVER.

Thanks to Jon for the mail day. I know it was from a freebie Friday claim but I will hit you back with something at some point. I hit up a few folks this week I felt I owed so I have a few more to go as well. I need to get better at making my lists again as I have been slacking.

The Two Jo(h)ns

I found the fact that I got two mail days from two different blogger Jo(h)ns in the same day was quite funny to me. I don't think that has ever happened before. The name is as common as Matt is across the blogosphere.

First up, my winnings from the BFG I was in at Johnny's Trading Spot. I sadly didn't get to choose a number or make a steal because I wasn't awake at the time the game was being played. I also would have to be on my laptop to comment as my phone doesn't allow blog comments even on my own. Hopefully next time I jump in I will be ready or maybe send an email when it's my turn.

I miss cereal cards in boxes. I think marketing things like that in food will help grab kids attentions. I know Topps has done some food things the past couple of years but it's time for Panini and Upper Deck to step up their game more.

Along with some claims on Free Friday, I also was sent some Giants including some older ones I didn't have.

I am always looking to add to my vintage or oddballs collection for baseball. I don't really have any vintage in general. The Yaz was a nice add.

Holograms....

Another hologram...I don't ever turn down some good holograms. One of the greatest hobby innovations ever! Sadly though, nobody uses it today. I am talking about you Upper Deck!!!

You know this card is bad, it's bad, you know it. Sorry wrong Michael Jackson but right card for my 1998 Topps Chrome refractor chase.

And final card was a nice 1999 Fleer Ultra Gold Medallion of Kerry Collins. Not sure where Jon found this one, but it makes me happy!

Everybody Loves Shiny

The Time Travel Box

I always like receiving and giving a nice surprise mail day. I find those are the best ones.

Just yesterday I was a recipient of one completely unexpected, well til the day before when Jon over at A Penny Sleeve For Your Thoughts (still like his blog name a lot) mentioned something heading my way, but it was still unexpected of what was to come.

He also said the package could be tracked so you know it wasn't going to be a PWE and knowing how much we have in common, I had no idea what was arriving.

When I saw the mail carrier leave a bubbler and a box in my mail box, I at first assumed the bubbler was from Jon and the box was something for my wife. Well, turns out the bubbler was another mail day I will share at some point and that the box was from Jon. A box. What could he have possibly stuck in a box?

The box wasn't extremely heavy so couldn't be a bunch of cards or even a head, but had some decent weight to it.

Without further hesitation and wondering, I ripped open the box..... Hmmmm Treasure inside, who wouldn't want to see that...

Surprise for sure! Completely unexpected mail day and contents and also an unexpected trip back in time with VHS tapes from my childhood shows. I always envy Jon who always finds great movies on his shopping trips he posts about. These ones by far were my favorites from what he has posted on his blog.

So let's see what Jon sent.

The Mask Animated Series. I used to watch a ton of this but haven't seen it since. Now I can re-live what once was.

 There wasn't one Disney Afternoon watched without kicking it off with Talespin. OHEEAY!(talespin) OHEEOH(talespin)

DuckTales...WOO HOO! I watched DuckTales twice a day. It used to come on at 6:30 in the morning right after Rush Limbaugh and in the afternoon as well.

 Honey....I'M HOME. I haven't seen Dinosaurs since the 90's. I don't have any DVD's of it or never find it on TV. I also don't have any of those fancy streaming channels/services like NetFlix, etc so I can't watch classics like this.

 And finally.....LET'S GET DANGEROUS. Darkly Dawns The Duck is also the first episode in the series. Back when Drake Mallard, aka Darkwing Duck, adopts Gosalyn and battles Taurus Bulba. I won't go into any further details for now.....

I have further post plans with these tapes down the road so stay tuned for that.

A big thanks to Jon for the treasure trove of awesomeness and trip back in time. Great stuff that I will enjoy and treasure forever.

Cards On Cards Sent Me cards

   

In recent weeks, Cards On Cards posted a break of 2019 Panini Black Friday packs and fortunately for me one of my loyal readers and fellow Blogger Jon from A Penny Sleeve For Your Thoughts noticed a card from the break I would be interested in and commented I would be. Next day, Cards On Cards contacted me about the said card and off went a trade.

Not only did Kerry from Cards On Cards sent me the card from that post, but he also loaded me up with so much more. I was blown away. I felt like I under did what I sent him. I will just have to send more at a later time and definitely check his most wanted list as I may be able to help there.

Here was the cards I was sent hitting a few PC's,

 Gleyber gold from Big League. Didn't have that.

   

Or the other one in that base set. Or any of these actually. When it comes to landing PC material for myself, it never works that way.

Nice Canvas Collection reproduction card. The artist did a great job with this one.

 Aaron Judge

 

 Totally loved this Judge, beautiful shot and it's chromed. Doesn't get any better than that.

A pair of Aaron Judge refractors. Base and sepia. Anytime I can add chrome refractors I will especially of player I collect.

And finally, the card he pulled from the Black Friday packs, Saquon Barkley jersey card. Was glad it was able to get into my hands. Great piece for my Saquon and Giants PC.

Jon Sends The 90's

Awhile back, Jon over at A Penny Sleeve For Your Thoughts blog mentioned that he had grabbed a few packs for me at a sale he went to.

He recently sent me those packs along with some sweet 90's add ins.

As everyone who has read this blog for awhile now knows, I am a huge Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fan and the packs he found were right up my alley. I haven't ever busted these or seen them so this should be a fun rip at some point. Have been thinking about saving them for Christmas then revealing the contents on here. The Series 2 pack above comes with a Power Cap, POG as we called them in the 90's so that should be awesome. Fingers crossed for Kimberly or Tommy!

This Series 2 pack, I assume one is hobby and one is retail, comes with a foil card per pack. Even sweeter.

Jon then proceeded to send along some Spx Finite football cards from 1998 I forgot until I got them that we had discussed in the past he had some extras of.

The 1998 Spx Finite isn't on my full radar, yet, unlike the 1996-1998 releases that were full of hologram awesomeness but who knows. I can't predict where my mind will drift off to next. All of the base cards in that set were numbered.

I think the cards looks nice in terms of layout, design and a touch of foil. Just would be a hard set to chase being all numbered and having Peyton Manning in it.

Not to mention this set has layers to it.

Series one has 190 cards and Series two had 180 cards. Series One base cards, 1-90 were numbered to 7600-sets followed by subsets Playmakers 91-120 that is numbered to 5500-sets and Youth Movement that covered cards 121-150 and numbered to 3000 then Pure Energy cards 151-170 that was numbered to 2500 finally finished off by Heroes of the Game for card numbers 171-180 and numbered to 1250.  Series Two contains had  base cards 191-280 that were numbered to 10,100, Extreme Talent that was card numbers 281-310 and numbered to 7200 followed by the New School cards 311-340 and numbered to 4000 then Sixth Sense cards 341-360 numbered to 2700 and finally Uncommon Valor cards 361-370 numbered to 1620.

Like I said, a lot of layers. Each base card also had 2 parallels.

And Jon must have seen how much I liked the Kelvin Cato he posted. These Wave Of The Future cards with liquid in them are pretty sharp.
