Talkin' Toys: The Grand Finale

After doing a few of these posts, I decided I no longer wanted to do anymore.

But, don't fret fellow toy collectors, I won't leave you hanging. Which is why today is a gallery of everything else that I picked up from the Daycare sale.

Some of these items mean more to me than others as far as nostalgia, but some were grabbed simply because they were from the 90's and really cheap.

I will let the toys do the talkin' for the finale.

Overall, I spent less than $20 on everything that I grabbed for myself however that doesn't account for stuff my wife picked up. As you can see, I scored fairly well.

I haven't decided where I will display all of these or actually any of the toys I own. Right now they are all in a tote for safe keeping for later on in life. Maybe by then I will find a cool way to show them all off.

Thoughts on my pickups are welcomed in comments below!

Talkin Toys:1993 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 8" Red Ranger

When I went to the Daycare to go toy hunting, I had no idea what I would uncover that day or if anything would have any significance to me.

My first post had a Robocop toy that didn't play a big role in my childhood, but today's did and it wasn't the only one.

In 1993, I watched one of my top 5 favorite kids shows of all-time, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers!

A quick recap of the show is a series that took place in fictional Angel Grove where five teenagers with attitude were chosen by Alpha 5 from the orders of the wise Zordon to protect the earth from Rita Repulsa. Rita was once locked away by Zordon in a extraterrestrial container but after 10,000 years of being imprisoned for her evil deeds, two unknowingly astronauts opened the container and set her free. Her mission was to conquer earth! So Zordon needed help to protect it and get Rita imprisoned again. Hence, the five teenagers who were giving morphin powers to do so. They had many weapons at their disposal along with big robotic machines called zords to fend off any of Rita's big plans with her evil aliens she sent to earth to destroy it.

Jason was the red ranger and was given the Dinozord Power Coin of the Tyrannosaurus which was his zord as well.
This toy is only missing his weapons.

And has very little marks on it which is surprising for a toy almost 30 years old.

Now I am aging myself.

I never owned any of the original toys that released as my first figures were from the fliphead series.

I paid less than a $1 for this with most selling for $10-$12 so I did pretty well with this one and the fact it's going into my toy PC.

There is still so much more to show off in this series so stay tuned!

MMMB:Go Go Penny Sleeves!

I don't do a lot of reading now-a-days but when I do it has to be something that is a complete draw-in for me such as other blogs and something that has a connection to my childhood.

I think Jon from A Penny Sleeve For Your Thoughts must have known this secret when he mailed me a really amazing book just after Christmas.

The book, Alien Encounters In Angel Grove, captures all of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers monsters they battled through the seasons I watched. They are also all in order of when they appeared which is also really cool.

Here is the back cover of the book.

On the inside as I said it captures all of the monsters and alien villains the heroes had to battle over time.

Each page breaks them down with their name, which person created them and what their known abilities are. Pumpkin Rapper was one of my favorites.

But not as much as Lord Zedd. That dude rocked and was the most iconic alien monster on the series in my opinion. I still need to get his base figure and not just the light up one I have.

This was one of his first monsters he created when he stepped in for Rita who wasn't having any luck in trying to defeat the Power Rangers.

And speaking of Zedd and Rita, how about Rita's father Master Vile who stepped in when Zedd and Rita couldn't conquer Earth. Must have been fun working alongside him....not.

Another thing I haven't mentioned yet is that I have been re-watching the entire Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series on Netflix when my internet allows me to. I am on about episode 20 or so with many more to go. If my internet was only better I may be a lot further.

Thanks to Jon for the surprise mail day. I hope to hit you back at some point as you are on my list. I have really enjoyed the book and being able to match it up to what I am watching.

If any of you readers watched MMPR, who was your favorite Ranger or Alien monster?

Blog Bat Around:Something I Collect Not Sports

A couple of months ago, Trevor over at Bump and Run Football Card blog held a contest for you to show off something you collect that isn't sports cards or sports memorabilia. You can see what Trevor collects that not cards or memorabilia here, Long Distance from Brazil

As for myself, I have shown off and mentioned many times how I am chasing down pieces of my childhood as I call it.

I have done a good job of knocking down a chunk of the toys I need but still have a road to travel.

I had a couple of these mutation turtles including Leo which I don't have yet. But, these were cheap and worth the pickup.

I had Tommy, green ranger, and never had Zach but hey, cool addition regardless. I need to add Jason, red ranger, at some point to complete my Power Ranger flip heads collection from my youth. I never had the rest of them but would be tempted to get them if they came up cheap.

Mighty Max. I had a few of the playsets but can't remember which ones. So my goal was to grab one that was complete and later on grab the Skull Dungeon one which was the one every Mighty Max fan wanted.

And one of my favorite shows growing up was Darkwing Duck, most of these figures are complete with their accessories except two I think. I am only missing one figure, Steelbeak, from having all 8 figures. So far I have had no success in finding an affordable Steelbeak complete-at least with his tail-but still look everyday.

I have other figures I couldn't dig out at this time such as an autograph White Ranger Tommy, some other TMNT and my Ghostbusters.

Here are a list of needs still for me,
  • 1993 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Flip Heads Yellow Ranger Trini Figure
  • 1993 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Flip Heads Red Ranger Jason Figure
  • 1993 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Flip Heads Blue Ranger Billy Figure
  • 1993 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Flip Heads Pink Ranger Kimberly Figure
  • 1993 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Lord Zedd Figure
  • 1989 TMNT Baxter Stockmon (prefer to have it complete with wings etc)
  • 1991 Playmates Darkwing Duck Steelbeek
  • 1991 Playmates Toxic Crusaders Toxie
  • 1991 Playmates Toxic Crusaders Headbanger
  • 1991 Playmates Toxic Crusaders Dr.Killemoff
  • 1983-1984 Mattel Masters Of The Universe Battle Damage Skeletor
  • 1983-1984 Mattel Masters Of The Universe Battle Damage He-Man
  • 1993 Batman The Animated Series Clayface
  • 1993 Batman The Animated Series Batman
  • 1993 Batman The Animated Series Robin
  • 1993 Batman The Animated Series TwoFace
  • 1991 or 1992 TMNT Leo
  • 1991 or 1992 TMNT Donnie
  • 1992 TMNT Shredder
  • 1991 TMNT Splinter
  • Ghostbusters Jail Break Ray Stanz and Jail Jaw Ghost
That was fun to show off.

I hope this revives this Blog Bat Around for Trevor as I would love to see what you guys collect. I didn't see too many post about this topic and I find it's a fun one.

$25 A Week Challenge Week 7:I Found A Tooth!

Another week has come and gone, which means a whole new week of pickups for this segment and my PC.

And boy did I ever go the weird route with this one. I can't explain why I grabbed what I did when I did, I just did.

But some cool things I grabbed this week!

First up, this Bowmans Best refractor for $2.99. Still need the base and atomic to have all three.

This next card will get your teeth chattering.....
Super cool prop relic...

A tooth relic from Ghost Whisperer. If you hadn't ever seen the show, I watched every episode and was very disappointed when the canceled it, Melinda Gordon played by Jennifer Love Hewitt could  communicate with the earthbound spirits of people who have died and had come to her for help with those still alive. Was always interesting story lines and how they were taking the show.

The show only went for five seasons even though there was much more to tell.

The person who was selling this also threw in bonus items of the following,

Some interesting toss ins. Got only $9.89 overall invested in this lot. I may look into future relic adds like this. Can I smell set chase.....

Then came another out of the blue pickup, Gary V had mentioned on Twitter and someone retweeted his post, I don't follow the guy as I haven't fallen in love with him like some collectors, about old Vending Machine Prism stickers and realized I had forgotten about them.

So I searched and found some cheap Mighty Morphin Power Rangers ones from 1994 and grabbed them.

These three stickers were only $5.39. I at least have some now.

And finally, I still have been adding toys when I can find them cheap. I was missing Launchpad for my Darkwing Duck collection and when I made an offer of $2.00 and got it, I was stoked. Only was $3.74 for shipping so not too terrible.

This weeks grand total of misfit random items....... $24.01

So I gotta ask, what would you have spent your $25 on this week?
