Museum Musings:1994 Starting Lineups

Back in March, I held a contest taking suggestions on what kind of stuff you guys would like to read more about on the blog. Many of the suggestions were toys to non sports to non card items. Well, to please the crowd I will do my best to post those kind of items in this new segment.

Over the years, I have accumulated so much junk. A good portion of it including most of my Starting Lineups and any figures were traded off. I also had a bunch of autographed items I was just looking to downsize with and traded half of those off as well. I still have some to go in that area.

Most of the items I acquired over the years were from purchases in online catalogs, local outlets, department stores, gifts from family, and from a few contests I won. I originally really wanted these items, but as time has gone on and I have gotten older and what feels as my house getting smaller, I decided it was time just to collect cards now. No more adding those markdown McFarlane figures just for the fun of it.

There are some pieces however, I plan on keeping forever. These pieces I will showcase on here.

About 13 years ago, I took all of my Starting Lineup/McFarlane figures over to the closest card shop I had at the time-it was only an hour away but closed a year later after my visit-and traded them off to the shop owner who was selling figures better than cards. I was just happy to lose bulk in my house and I added some pretty sweet cards including a Joe Montana rookie!

A few years after that, my father handed me his two Starting Lineups he had displayed on the wall for years. Normally, I wouldn't be happy about adding more bulk, but, being that these were NY Giant legends, I was okay accepting them.

Up first was this LT. This guy was a game changer. Not something the Giants have had in a linebacker in years and years.

The other was Phil Simms. Can't go wrong with a winning Giants QB.

I am actually seeking out the Rodney Hampton Starting Lineups for my PC. That's only because I want it to be a Super PC and feel in order to do that I need it to be jacked up in all ways. I used to think I super collected Ken Griffey Jr and had all of his figures at one point, but I ditched them all in that trade to the shop owner. There was no way I was ever going to get all of his cards. Hampton I have a chance at!

How many of you still collect Starting Lineups or use them as apart of your Super PC collection?

P-Town Drops The Hamp, Again!

Two days in a row with new Hamptons? You got that right son!

P-Town of Waiting Til Next Year fame, recently sent me three new Rodney's to cross off of my needs list from a recent trade we did.

The first one is super cool, a 1991 Starting Linuep coin. This piece is actually quite heavy. These were included in figures.

And the other two Hampton's came Action Packed!

Thanks goes out to P-Town for bringing me more Hampton fun. I look forward to our next trade which may not be too far down the road.

If any of you are interested in a trade or donate some of those Hamptons collecting dust on your nightstand, I would welcome more Hamptons. You can find my checklist of needs, HERE.

Is He In Your Starting Lineup?

Now in my Starting Lineup, is the second card I needed from Starting Lineup of my man Rodney. I didn't think I was ever going to land them both but lucked out.

Just by the looks of this one, you can see this is an obvious early 90's card. Well, it is, 1992 to be exact. Easy pickup for $1. I am always happy to add cards to my PC cheap when I can.

Before you ask, yes, there are more Hampton posts on the way!

1994 Starting Lineup Card Add!

If you think numbered inserts are tough finds in the 90's, try adding to your PC with promo cards or cards that came with figures. A lot of collectors never opened up their Starting Lineups in the 90's.

If you don't know what a Starting Lineup is, simply it was a line of collectible figures made to look like the players that included a card in the package in the 80's, 90's, and a little in the 2000's I believe before McFarlane figures took over.

So to my luck, I stumbled upon one of my Starting Lineup card needs for cheap so I added it.

Card isn't the most spectacular thing you have seen, but, it still was a need.

Thoughts on my latest tough Hampton add is welcomed in comments and if you want to help add to my Rodney Hampton project, see all of my remaining needs HERE. You just never know what you may have that I don't.

Put Hampton In Your STARTING LINEUP, He Will Find PAYDIRT

Last week I was contacted by @kin_kinsley,who is one of the writers for the blog, Beans Ballcard Blog, about a Rodney Hampton he had picked up and wanted to mail to me for my #GreatHamptonChase. I was completely on board and excited. The fun part was, he didn't tell me what was coming.

So today, it arrived via PWE safe and sound and BRAND NEW to my PC. Welcome home Rodney Hampton #252.

A 1992 Starting Lineup Rodney Hampton

A big thanks goes out to @kin_kinsley for the help in my chase. I really appreciate your generosity.

Also in the mail today, another cheap eBay bucks pickup that arrived PWE also. Hampton number 253.

A 1995 Skybox Premium Paydirt.
I have always liked these. There is currently a colors parallel of him on eBay I am dying to get. But, funds won't allow it at this time so hoping it will remain there until I can pick it up. Those are extremely rare and the only Hampton one I have ever seen on there.
Overall, a pretty solid mail day today. It has been awhile so it was a nice change of pace. I also received a mail day from Grady M. We all know how awesome those are and will be posted next week in a 6-part series.

Hope everyone has a great rest of their night! Thanks for reading.

What other stuff do you collect?

Some of us collect cards. Some of us collect memorabilia. Some of us collect both. And then there is those of us who look at everything as a collectible.

The one definite spot I can put myself in on that is cards. I do have some memorabilia. Not much though. And I do have other collectibles such as bobble heads, magazines, newspapers, mugs, glasses and other unique odd and ends pieces. But overall, my main focus is in card collecting.

I did at one time have quite the lineup of McFarlane and Starting Lineup figures...but I traded most of them away mainly to land these....

I thought it was a great trade. The only problem was the Nolan Ryan auto baseball didn't have the certificate of authenticity but the card shop guaranteed it was authentic. I mostly did the trade for the Super Bowl winning qb.The baseball has is no longer apart of my collection.

This is what I have left of my starting lineups:

Couldn't let my Lawrence Taylor and Phil Simms go.
