Blast From The Past:1995 Playoff Absolute football Pack Break

It was about a scientist named Calvin Webber who was played by Christopher Walken, that took his pregnant wife in a deep underground fallout shelter in 1962 when he thought a nuclear war was imminent. During that time, their son Adam played by Fraser (who seemed to had been in every late 90's movie) was born and was exposed to only the culture of 1962 in the shelter such as the music and TV shows of the time. Life was accustomed to not being at the surface. 

Fast forward 35 years later, their supplies and food was running low so someone would have to come above ground and take a risk to get new products. That was supposed to be Calvin, up until he was ill from stress from his one visit to the surface. So his son Adam would have to venture out in a world he had never met.....

This segment takes a look at products that may have been hidden in a underground fallout shelter for over 20 years and now just coming back out to be rediscovered....by me. Guess you can call me Adam even though my name is Matt. These are products I opened when I was first collecting and is a Part Of My Past, but may not have a memory or a Origins story to attach to them. Most products I post on here will, but some won't and those will be covered in this new segment.These products will be between the years of 1995-1999 only.

Let's just hope my experience with these breaks is better than Adams first visit to the surface.

So let's take a Blast From The Past with a one pack break of 1995 Playoff Absolute Football!

Just like Playoff Prime, Playoff Absolute I may have busted one pack of in 1995 as Playoff didn't make much of an appearance in my area til 1996. I later on was able to pick up singles from this product that I wanted.

Once again I had high hopes of pulling a Pigskin Preview or pretty much anything would be nice. So let's see how I did.

 

There are 8 cards in this pack to find. I paid about $1 as it was in a lot of 90's packs I bought.

Aaron Glenn will always be a NY Jet to me but he played for five teams total in 14 seasons. He was a three time Pro Bowler and Three Time All Pro corner.

 

The GOAT sighting.....Barry! Best Running Back in NFL History. I know I had this argument already but nobody could do what Barry did. This to me was an exciting find. Barry is a Hall Of Famer, 10x Pro Bowler, MVP, and a 2x Offensive Player Of The Year among many other great honors.

Rhett didn't quite live up to the 1994 NFL Draft hype and played for three teams in 6 NFL Seasons.

Martin played for 6 teams in 12 seasons. I best remember him as a Bolt. He was an All Pro and Pro Bowler in 1996.

Eric Green played for nine seasons and will be best remembered to me as a member of the Steelers.

Leroy plowed his way for yards for four teams in nine seasons. Best remembered to me as a Brown. Hoard made it to the Pro Bowl 1994.

Erik Kramer will always be a Bear to me. He played for four teams but spent four years in Chicago which was his longest stint at a place.

Finding the Barry Sanders alone was enough for me to call this pack a winner. How can it not?

Became A Cardboardholic Part 2

This is part two of my trade with @card_a_holic and there are some great cards to see today. All kicks off with my very first Errict Rhett auto. No worry about fakes back in those days.

A couple of Quick Numbers which came from 1995 Skybox Premium and may now be added to my set chase. I already have a few on hand but these two are new to it.

Out of all of the Summit I bought, I never ONCE pulled a Team Summit. Never. Ever. So I had to finally get one while I had the chance to and now am a happy camper. Of course a set chase is now in question as well.

I always wanted a Metalists card as well but never pulled one. So once again had to pull the trigger on getting one, well two. Once again, wondering if this should be a set chase added.

Dufex. Enough said. It would be nearly impossible probably to set chase these 1995 Pinnacle parallels but hey you never know. I am still working hard on Red Siege, Ground Zero and Gold Medallions first from 1995.

I hadn't ever pulled any of these either til I broke a box a couple of years ago. Now with three more added, I may add them to my set chase.

I have been slowly accumulating Kerry Collins cards as a alternative to Rodney Hampton. If you got any, hit me up! This is one of the coolest ones I have now.

Well, that's it for what I have in-hand right now. I ended up sending Brian extra stuff I had in his pile after he had already sent my big part so we had to work on finishing up the last part of the trade which is why I don't have it yet in hand as of typing of this. I know it will be soon though and I suggest if you haven't yet, go start up  a trade with the guy. Really friendly and easy to trade with.

Two New Traders Bring The Fun!

I am always adding great traders to my trading circle and I did just that recently.

For a couple of months, I have been working on a trade with Greg from Nine Pockets blog who contacted me about some 90s inserts and set help, it was dragged out so long because of my slacking on getting my card room situated to find him a return. Usually an easy trade like this one should have been just that, but the specific things I was looking for to send in return were buried among the mess.

But, we finally got a deal done once I pushed past the mess and here was my return,

I have always enjoyed some 90's Ultra inserts. Ultra to me was the start of the creativity in the hobby before 1996 started the uphill climb of the 90's inserts with other companies.

More Ultra with some Gold Medallions. Ultra base cards alone are worth a look at. The Leaf one at the bottom is one of those steel cards made of metal.

 Shine a light on Black Diamond...sorry Rhianna came to mind

90's Black Diamond was the best and here are some die cut versions including the man, Wayne Gretzky. One day in my wildest dreams I will own his rookie card and autograph.

There were even some football inserts. Quasers is pretty cool of Lions WR Crowell

 Rhett, there it is. Rhett there it is! digging the old Bucs uni's more as an adult

Irvin refractor from 1995 Finest,  I consider the best design out of all the Finest ones and would almost use the term iconic for that line with it.

 And to end, a couple of autographs. Not anyone I know, but still cool.

Now onto my second new trader who was a new trader but not new to me as a person. I have always spoken to @911baseballguy usually about TTM autographs and addresses. But, when I saw him post a Daniel Jones I really wanted, we began trade discussions and here was the results of those.

Daniel Jones Red Prizm parallel. Prizm is such a beautiful product. It's not quite Topps Chrome, but close.

And I have been trying to add to my Mahomes rookies and this Donruss Optic fit it well.

I strongly suggest you seek out these two great traders as well. Easy to deal with and ships perfectly!

Dual Refractor

Rodney is back!

Only three more Rodney Hampton posts remain in my drafts so we will kick it off with another sweet addition thanks to Jammin JD Sports Cards.

This is a 1994 Stadium Club Bowman's Best Dual Refractor. I have owned the base issue for awhile but not the refractor version. These weren't the toughest finds falling at 1:12 packs but but it was a deep checklist so finding ones you needed may not have always been easy.

This dual is of Rodney Hampton and Errict Rhett.

Shiny+chromed=happy collector.

An insert as a preview of what was to come in 1995, Bowman's Best paired these two mirror images of each other on a card together. There is a regular base of these inserts that fall 1:3 packs and these parallels fall 1:12 packs.

 

The back of the card is pretty bland just showcasing similarities of the two.
