Blast From The Past:1995 Playoff Absolute football Pack Break

It was about a scientist named Calvin Webber who was played by Christopher Walken, that took his pregnant wife in a deep underground fallout shelter in 1962 when he thought a nuclear war was imminent. During that time, their son Adam played by Fraser (who seemed to had been in every late 90's movie) was born and was exposed to only the culture of 1962 in the shelter such as the music and TV shows of the time. Life was accustomed to not being at the surface. 

Fast forward 35 years later, their supplies and food was running low so someone would have to come above ground and take a risk to get new products. That was supposed to be Calvin, up until he was ill from stress from his one visit to the surface. So his son Adam would have to venture out in a world he had never met.....

This segment takes a look at products that may have been hidden in a underground fallout shelter for over 20 years and now just coming back out to be rediscovered....by me. Guess you can call me Adam even though my name is Matt. These are products I opened when I was first collecting and is a Part Of My Past, but may not have a memory or a Origins story to attach to them. Most products I post on here will, but some won't and those will be covered in this new segment.These products will be between the years of 1995-1999 only.

Let's just hope my experience with these breaks is better than Adams first visit to the surface.

So let's take a Blast From The Past with a one pack break of 1995 Playoff Absolute Football!

Just like Playoff Prime, Playoff Absolute I may have busted one pack of in 1995 as Playoff didn't make much of an appearance in my area til 1996. I later on was able to pick up singles from this product that I wanted.

Once again I had high hopes of pulling a Pigskin Preview or pretty much anything would be nice. So let's see how I did.

 

There are 8 cards in this pack to find. I paid about $1 as it was in a lot of 90's packs I bought.

Aaron Glenn will always be a NY Jet to me but he played for five teams total in 14 seasons. He was a three time Pro Bowler and Three Time All Pro corner.

 

The GOAT sighting.....Barry! Best Running Back in NFL History. I know I had this argument already but nobody could do what Barry did. This to me was an exciting find. Barry is a Hall Of Famer, 10x Pro Bowler, MVP, and a 2x Offensive Player Of The Year among many other great honors.

Rhett didn't quite live up to the 1994 NFL Draft hype and played for three teams in 6 NFL Seasons.

Hmmmm Bono find in Absolute to match my find of him in Playoff Prime

Martin played for 6 teams in 12 seasons. I best remember him as a Bolt. He was an All Pro and Pro Bowler in 1996.

Eric Green played for nine seasons and will be best remembered to me as a member of the Steelers.

Leroy plowed his way for yards for four teams in nine seasons. Best remembered to me as a Brown. Hoard made it to the Pro Bowl 1994.

Erik Kramer will always be a Bear to me. He played for four teams but spent four years in Chicago which was his longest stint at a place.

Finding the Barry Sanders alone was enough for me to call this pack a winner. How can it not?

I opened some Scoreboard on and off in the 90's. They put out a few decent products including the one I am talking about today.

Every pack of 1997 Scoreboard NFL Experience football came with 6 cards. I paid $3 shipped on this pack to show it off. I was hoping to land the vintage card but knew my odds were against me. The part about this pack I don't get is the Show Version. Maybe it was a special version from The National? I have no idea, but I remember opening up cards like this so who knows. Maybe these had special things in them compared to the ones I opened. So let's check it out.

The back of the wrapper tells me that not only are the cards collectible, but so isn't the wrapper so I held onto it.

Time to have a blast from the past!

Vinny Testeverde in the Ravens old school logo, which I like better than their new one.  He played for 8 teams in 21 seasons. I best remember him for the Ravens/Jets.He was a Heisman Trophy winner and a two time Pro Bowler.

Steve Bono played for 7 teams in 14 seasons. He was a Super Bowl Champ with the 49ers and a Pro Bowler in 1995.

Tony Banks played for 5 teams in 9 seasons. Never quite lived up to the hype when 1996 collectors were seeking him out. Was a Super Bowl champ in Super Bowl 35 against my Giants during the time with the Ravens.

Antonio played for 4 teams in 9 seasons. He was a Super Bowl champ and a Pro Bowler once. He was best known to me for playing for the team pictured on this card.

John Elway, what can I say other than being the big time of this pack. He was a two time Super Bowl Champion as a player, once as a GM. He was a Super Bowl MVP, played in 9 Pro Bowls, was NFL Man Of The Year 1992 along with even being on Tool Time with Tim Allen on Home Improvement once.

And a checklist. Great looking card that I be any Packers fan would want. I miss having checklists in packs of cards. So much easier to set build than having to search online and match things up.

Well that's it. Was my $3 found in value wise, not sure. But, memory wise, absolutely.

1991 song by Salt-N-Pepa was about a much different topic than I am turning it into. You see, I am staying on topic with cards. Not,well, what they were talking about. This newest segment about the 90's will focus on my set chases (the ones I have already used for a Origins Post or don't plan on using) and new additions to them along with updates on how far I have gotten.

It's time for us to sit down and have that discussion between your parents and you that you tried to avoid. You know, that conversation you have with them about the Flairs and the Pinnacles. Kids, it's time to Talk About Sets.

I have always been a huge fan of these 1995 Summit Ground Zero parallels since I first laid eyes on them at the age of 12. Now as an older looking version of my 12 year old self, I am chasing these all down in hopes I can complete the massive, in terms of parallel sets, 200 card set.

For my birthday, I received a few different eBay gift cards I wasn't expecting and used them in a variety of ways. One, was to grab a massive amount of these for my set chase from Burbank Sportcards which at the time was also running a free shipping over $20 and 10% off deal.

So I really took advantage grabbing close to thirty. Today, I am showcasing the first 12.

 Can't believe I didn't already have this one!!!

 I always pulled Jim Everett cards back then. Just not this one.

One of the very few rookies I have for the parallel. There are some tougher ones to land like Steve Mcnair, Warren Sapp and Curtis Martin I need.

 I always thought Centers didn't get enough Center of attention. He was a solid player.

 Actually, that goes for Carl Pickens as well. Playing for the Bengals didn't help.

And Same for Chris Warren who was could be a beast at times. Also note the block being put on Junior Seau in this photo.
