Let's Talk About Sets Volume 54:Being Grounded

It's been two years since I decided to fully chase the 1995 Summit Ground Zero set but overall it's a set I have been chasing for many years.

I pulled my first Ground Zeros back in 1995. Probably about five total out of packs. Since then I have accumulated about half of the 200 card set with my biggest needs coming today.

The set needs I have added so far are mainly the lower end players, today I tackled a few bigger names.

Brett Favre

This is a huge sigh of relief to knock these guys down. Maybe now this once "dream set" can start to become more of a reality.

Sets talk has arrived and has a new twist you can say. I will be using my sets talk platform for Set Help. Ever since I started posting my set needs instead of just letting them sit on the blog, I have had some minor help and at this point, any minor help is huge.

Today I grabbed three sets from 1996 that I need help with.

First up, die cut jersey from 1996 Pinnacle. I am a big die cut fan and think this card looks amazing,

The second set is a follow up set to the 1995 Summit Ground Zero which is the 1996 edition. As most of my readers know, I am deep in chasing the 1995 edition which may be my all time favorite parallel-sorry refractors- and have really gotten it way under 100 left to go for that set. Only made sense that I chased the next best thing the following year that I have just gotten off the ground in chasing,

The final set we are looking at today is 1996 Collectors Choice MVP silver. I am so close to having this one I can feel like an MVP soon.

Let's Talk About Sets Volume Who Knows?:New Set Adds

Let's talk about sets baby...let's talk about new adds for me...let's talk about the shiny, acetate and 90s they can be...let's talk about sets.

I am getting so close on so many sets, but getting so low on funds that it's not a good combination.

At least I was able to knock down some needs for two of my most wanted set finishes.

Set adds number one was three new ones knocked down my Ex2000 baseball set. Think I have roughly 9 more to go

Ground Zero I have been knocking down bigger chunks out at a time. It's only a 200 card set but man, it's a tough one. I have been killing it with knocking down the smaller pieces of this set but still am missing so many of the bigger name players.

This time it was 15 new ones from a seller who runs a buy 4 get 2 free special. He has been a huge help. However, his singles are getting down to the more expensive ones so not sure how much longer I will stick with his stuff.

My hope is to binder these sets soon along with a few others. Sets look best in a binder than in a plastic box. Especially when they look this good.

Three Red Siege cards. Two I needed, thought I needed all three but I have a good home for my dupes now.

Ground Zero baby! Both new. One of an underrated WR in Bruce and Westbrook who was supposed to be the next Jerry Rice. Didn't quite pan out that way.

I hit Paydirt right here!!!! Biggest player I needed left for my set. Only two more to go! Just need Natrone Means and Deion Sanders.

And Ground Attack. There's another player on the back, but I put key focus on John Elway for this post.

Today's sets talk is from my first ever trade on Twitter with WestCoastHockeyHits who not only had hockey cards, but had some serious set help for me. This is just one part of it.

I am always hoping people will dig deep and find some Ground Zeros in their collections that are collecting dust and he did.

Fleer NFL Prospects of Michael Westbrook I needed. These were inserted one in every 6 packs.I have 14 of the 20 needed for the set so it's coming along.

This card marks me half way to the 18 card set. TD was a huge need that I desperately needed. These fell 1:23 packs or roughly one per box.

Yes, I apologize for another whole round of Summit Ground Zero. I promise before we are done with having the Sets talk, we will be moving all over the place as I added some new additions in quite a few areas. This is the final Ground Zero update I have in my drafts for now. Hopefully I will be finding ways to add more soon.

I added these in one of those free combine shipping after $9 and 20% on top of it deals. So yeah, I did well.

Edgar Bennett had a decent career.

Anderson kicked into his was 65 for his retirement age and he could still beat half of the kickers in this league today.

Beuerline was one of the first Jags QB's to play before they smartened up and brought in some much more successful ones.

Another one of those guys I found often in packs was Chris Miller.

Craig Heyward was a bully on the field. He could push you right over. Big, strong, fierce and powerful back.

Herman Moore was the Lions Calvin Johnson of the 90's. Dude could play but got no respect because he was on a losing team. He also did play for the Giants once towards the end of his career. Wished I had a card of him in blue.

 

Rick Mirer. How many of us fell to collecting all the rookies we could of him waiting to hit it big?...I am still waiting.

I have always been a huge fan of these 1995 Summit Ground Zero parallels since I first laid eyes on them at the age of 12. Now as an older looking version of my 12 year old self, I am chasing these all down in hopes I can complete the massive, in terms of parallel sets, 200 card set.

For my birthday, I received a few different eBay gift cards I wasn't expecting and used them in a variety of ways. One, was to grab a massive amount of these for my set chase from Burbank Sportcards which at the time was also running a free shipping over $20 and 10% off deal.

So I really took advantage grabbing close to thirty. Today, I am showcasing the first 12.

 I always pulled Jim Everett cards back then. Just not this one.

One of the very few rookies I have for the parallel. There are some tougher ones to land like Steve Mcnair, Warren Sapp and Curtis Martin I need.

 I always thought Centers didn't get enough Center of attention. He was a solid player.

 Actually, that goes for Carl Pickens as well. Playing for the Bengals didn't help.

And Same for Chris Warren who was could be a beast at times. Also note the block being put on Junior Seau in this photo.

Pieces Of My Future #3: Finally!

Two Pieces Of My Future in the same week? Is he slowly starting to go back to Sport Card Collectors? Nope.

This past weekend my nephew came up from Tennessee and we spent the time playing Mario Brothers, eating food and watching movies. Something we have done for years. I didn't really have a lot of time to do some typing so I decided to choose a few quickie posts this week that sat in my drafts.

For my birthday this year, I was surprised with a few eBay gift cards so I put them to use the best I could and got the most I could out of them.

Today's Pieces Of My Future features more of a Part Of My Past.

This Kerry Collins was a set need from 1995 Summit Ground Zero and also served as a Kerry Collins card I needed for that PC. I really like these parallels and I am currently working really hard on achieving this set. Any help from you guys would be great!

And today's post was named Finally as I was finally able to land this Kerry Collins autograph I have wanted. It's from 2000 Fleer and their autographics set. The year 2000 was the set that had the QB that everyone else is chasing in Brady's autograph, while I put in a small bid on this Kerry and nobody battled me for it. I got a steal and the card I wanted.

These are just a couple things I snagged with my gift card. Defintely more to come that will take you back in time including more Ground Zeros I will be sharing as a separate segment of it's own.

Sets Of My Childhood THE SERIES! Part 20:1995 Summit Ground Zero Parallel

Sets Of My Childhood THE SERIES is a spinoff from just a want list. I decided not only would I make a want list of each of the sets I am chasing in a tab, but I thought a little breakdown and feature may help get me more set help. I am sure many of the sets I am seeking are nickel and dime type of cards so I am hoping my trader friends can be on the lookout for any I don't have.

 I don't normally chase parallel sets but when one looks as good as these Ground Zero parallels, I say Oh Yeah and I bust through the wall like the Kool-Aid man.

 

How serious am I you ask about collecting the entire 200 card set. I am dead serious. I want them all! 

Ground Zero parallels fell 1:7 packs of 1995 Summit. The product had a high end appeal to it with it's thick base cards and elegant design. The inserts also looked very nice and some appear on this list. But, none I want more than this parallel set. I wished my pictures could have captured their magic a bit more.

I have a long, long, ways to go with this one with only 8/200 so far. So any form of donations or trades for the rest I will welcomed open armed.
