Burbank Pickups Of The Month:September 2021 Edition

My mood with my pickups at Burbank Sportcards changes month to month. Some months I am in the mood for the 90's and other months I am staring at set filling and now that it's fall, it's all about the NY Giants. Today's pickups are not all that I acquired, but a good chunk. I am saving the others for my Game Day posts.

Let's take a look at what I grabbed for the month of September.

2014 Prizm Parallels of Andre Williams.  I think 2014 Prizm has some of the best looking parallels out of all things Prizm.

I am not sure if this is a sign of things to come in a chase or if this is just a few adds for fun. Only time will tell. For now, I will enjoy these beauties.

$25 A Week Challenge Week 12:Giants And Prospecting

Yes it's back, back again, $25 a week, chaaaa-llla-enge. Yes, it's back, yes, it's back.

This weeks grabs were really random, just like my thoughts a lot of times, as these listings  just popped up and caught my attention like a pretty girl.

Let's see what my mind was thinking,

I posted the Kerry Collins pickup from this set already, but there are other Giants in this set and being a fan of Super Bowl sets, more about the ones when they win, I grabbed this one and

 

this one for a buck combined. Can't go wrong with that for the Giants PC.

Daniel Jones is the future and I believe in him. Though at times I second guess myself because he is still so young and fresh and Eli was so reliable. But, looking at last season Jones had many bright spots and you could tell Eli's time was closing in the few times he played. I will just miss Eli as well.

Saquon Barkley 2019 silver Optic. I was looking up Saquon cards ending soon and this one had .99 and no bids on it. Well, guess who won it with one bid and .99 cent. That's right, this guy. Saquon again proved to be unbelievable when he came back from injury and still pulled off a 1,000 yard season. I expect so much more next season when he is fully healthy.

I have noticed the last couple of years that Panini Prizm is the "It" factor for football rookie cards much like Topps Chrome was in the 90's. So you know what, I did some "prospecting" and grabbed a few players cheap before I couldn't grab them anymore.

Mercole Hardman played really well in his first year with the Chiefs. He 538 receiving yards, and made the Pro Bowl as a returner with 871 yards. He also had 7 total touchdowns and got to  hoist the Lombardi.

N'Keal Harry is going to eventually be Tom Brady's go-to guy and yes I say Tom returns to the Patriots next season. 6 foot 4 Harry didn't show much on the field last season, mostly because he was injured til November, but showed some signs when he was on the field. Better to grab him up now!

And my final pickup, I watched this Mark Brunell autograph on eBay because it was cheap to begin with. But, when I landed it for $1.75 with an offer I made and $3.99 shipping, it was an absolute yes. It fits both my 90's PC and my Mark Brunell one.

All of these were picked up for less than $15, so you can tell I was bargain hunting and bargain winning.

That left me with $10 leftover this week.  Sometimes you just don't spend it all and isn't always bad thing.

Eli's Rainbow Connection:2019 Prizm Chase

There is so, so much to do in the hobby of collecting cards.

You can chase cards from your favorite teams, your favorite players, try to chase the big hits, or even try something called chasing a rainbow. And no, it has nothing to do with Skittles.

What's a rainbow you may ask? It's a run of a singular card with multiple parallels. In order to complete a rainbow, you must have the entire set of that singular card all the way to the 1/1. Some card rainbows are easier than others as they all have different sizes. Some.may have three, others may have 15 or some may even have 26.

In my 25+ years of collecting, I have put together a couple of rainbows. They are not easy to do and can become very costly to do so. My most impressive one is the 2018 Select Rodney Hampton which technically had two 1/1's and those were also an autographed series. My only other rainbow was a 2012 Topps Chrome Rueben Randle.

Out of nowhere, I had accidentally acquired a couple of the 2019 Panini Prizm Eli Manning colored pieces and then decided to add a few more and then maybe a few more after that.

How far will I go? Not sure. There are 25 to chase and with it being a star player, the cost of landing those low numbered cards would most likely price me out.

So for now, I figured I would add whatever I could and see where that takes me.

Nuttin But The Hits:2018 Panini Prizm Football Blaster Box

With Topps no longer in the football business, I must turn my sights to Prizm to replace the empty feeling in my heart left by the departure of Topps Chrome.

I try to get some every year in some form or another. This year football cards have meant even more to me with the Giants having the best rookie in the draft so I NEEDED to get his Prizm cards. So I went blaster box in my first break. Not sure if there will be more breaks of it or not depending on my finances, but I at least opened one.

Let's see how I did.

2018 Panini Prizm boxes come with 6 packs  of four cards. You will find one hit either an autograph or memorabilia card. I guarantee you that 9 times out of 10 you will find a memorabilia card. That's just how retail works.

I knocked down two Giants right off the back with Odell and Shepard.

But, failed to find the Saquon I desperately seeked. Kerryon Johnson was a nice find however. He has played well for the poor Lions. I remember another running back who did as well....

Instant Impact Dante Pettis. Very colorful!

These parallels are insane! So cool looking. Wished I had gotten Saquon or a Giant, but I did okay especially finding a Zeke. I know a Cowboys fan who may enjoy that.

And my hit, as a KNEW it would be, a Prizm jersey card. this one of KeKe Coutee who has looked good at times for the Texans.

So there you have it. I came Saquon-less in my break but I think overall it was fun and that's what matters most. I will say it didn't take me long after this break to seek out a Prizm Saquon and find one. That post to come at a later date.

All Washed Up

I did something stupid recently.

I left a stack a stack of cards I was pulling from sleeves near a pile of dirty laundry (the cards were stacked on my desk but weeble-wobbling above the dirty laundry on the other side of my desk) and upon picking up the pile, some had fallen into it. I was pretty sure I had grabbed them all when I was sorting the clothes out until I had washed the load....

A 2016 Panini Prizm Jarvis Landry base card was left behind in the midst somehow. I don't like having a card destroyed but at least it was just a base card. Could have been a lot worse.

So if you are curious what happens to a Panini Prizm base card after going through the wash, well. here we go.

The sleeve it was in is and still is soaked. I can't seem to dry it and probably won't bother anymore at this point.

The card from the side view after pulling it out. It is bent but also has some wiggle.

The front looks no different but you can feel it.

 

The back of the card shows that the middle wasn't wet yet.

 

Here is a better angle of that when I put some light on it.

 

I have been trying to dry the card out for awhile now and it doesn't seem to be healing any better and pretty much looks the same as it did coming out of the wash. All I know is, next time I will make sure that I sort my laundry as well as I sort my cards.

REVIEW:2017-2018 Panini Prizm Basketball

So far this basketball collecting season, Panini Prizm is HOT, HOT, HOT!

With a decent rookie class and a product that has very valuable popular rookie cards prices for this years products went nuts and even finding retail is pretty much impossible. Believe me, I have tried. Some are comparing this product now to the Topps Chrome basketball one where rookie base card singles are a bit nuts to try and buy.

What's in a box of this treasure, well, read on and you will see.

In every box of 2017 Panini Prizm basketball there are 12 packs of 12 cards. Each box comes with 2 autographs and multiple prizm parallels. Boxes are running $299 right now. Like I said, high as it's hot.

The Prizm base set is made up of 300 cards. There are mix of veterans

Rookies, these are my key ones. I still don't own a Ball.

Coaches.  I absolutely dig this addition.

As I stated above, there are many, many parallels to find in a box of Prizm.

These are base Prizms. I lucked out with a base parallel of Dennis Smith Jr here.

There are plenty of color ones including, Purple /75,

Nice Kuzma here

Blue /199,

Love the look of these. Blue Ice /99,

 

Other parallels include, Green, Hyper, Red/White/Blue, White Sparkle, Orange /49,Pink Pulsar /42, Green Pulsar /25, Mojo /25, Red Pulsar /25, Gold /10, Red Shimmer /8, and Black 1/1.

Along with prizm parallels, you will find yourself also flooded in inserts that have parallels as well.

Here is Fundamentals. These have prizm parallels as well and they are included at the bottom of the picture. Those include, Silver, Fast Break, Green, Hyper, Mojo /25, Gold /10, Red Shimmer /8 and Black 1/1.

Get Hyped. Cool angle of players getting the crowd into the game. These have parallels as well. Those include, Silver, Fast Break, Green, Hyper, Mojo /25, Gold /10, Red Shimmer /8 and Black 1/1.

Emergent. Top rookies featured. These like the rest have parallels. Those include, Silver, Fast Break, Green, Hyper, Mojo /25, Gold /10, Red Shimmer /8 and Black 1/1.

Now onto the hits.

Panini points, 250. Ugh.

Steven Adams auto. Double ugh.

 

Other hits I didn't pull in my box but can be found are, Signatures Set, Sensational Signatures,Luck of the Lottery, Sensational Swatches and Rookie Signatures.

OVERALL: My autographs were a bummer, but the rookies that I pulled and parallels I found of those rookies should help in value of this box. Not sure if it evens out or exceeds it yet, but it could if the top rookies continue to play they way they have and there isn't really a lot of this product to go around.

Would I personally buy a box at this price, no. I would wait and hope the prices drop or buy into a box break or buy singles of players I want. As with any product, there are no guarantees and this one is a bit of a gamble because you are banking on the two autographs and the rookie parallels if you find any.

As a product, I like it. I have always been a fan of Prizm and it's multiple parallels. Sometimes I struggle telling the difference between them, but I usually figure it out. As with past products its based on the outside border color.. This years coaching additions is a welcomed find to the checklist. I wished they would do that with football. I can't remember the last time I saw football coaches in a product and I am not talking about a select few like they were in Contenders.
