Top Shelf Surprise!

I was a recent lucky winner in a Top Shelf Breaks contest. What the prize was...well...I had no idea. So when a bag arrived I was in for a surprise that's for sure!

Up first, some hobby novelties. I should sometime show off my display of shirts and hats from the hobby. I think the only big company I don't have anything from is Topps.

 

Underneath this was a Top Shelf Breaks Gold Pack which contained these cards in it,

 

A couple of refractors...

 

And the big hit from the pack, a solid Gleyber Torres refractor.

 

Underneath that pack came 3 packs of 2013 Upper Deck football. Here were the highlights of those,

 

Dion Lewis being the big highlight of the break. He look really good since he got healthy for the Patriots.

Wes' Drops The Giantshammer

I know I have said this on here a few times, but this guy ↓↓↓↓↓

Is pretty awesome.

Awhile back I finished 4th place in his World Cup Of Trading landing me some cards for my PC. Earlier this week, I received the following....

Three new Odells

A shiny Dre. Can't remember if I have this or not, either way it's chrome and it's staying.

Three memorabilia cards. One of Super Bowl 46 hero, yes hero, Mario Manningham. Also ones of Amukamara and Jernigan. Surprisingly didn't have any of these.

One player who has lived up to hype and another who hasn't. Engram will be a Pro Bowl TE by years end being the only reliable weapon on the Giants offense right now. Love the Perkins card, just wished he panned out.

A name I am not spelling out but will say it's spectacular shiny and Thomas autographs.

Here's that Pro Bowl TE again. So glad the Giants drafted him. The only bright spot in a dark year.

And he finish it up with one of my favorites from the mail day, this metal card of Justin Tuck. Now he was a guy that was never a disappointment. Super Cool add. I also had to turn the card to the side to capture this as it has a real unique metal shine.

The BFG

For a couple of weeks, Wes over at Willinghammer Rising, ran a Big Fun Game contest for a couple of weeks. It was something that was hosted by a previous blogger that Wes started up again.

I was curious what kinda game this was but in order to do that you had to be drafted into it first, luckily I was. The game itself come to find out, was simply picking a random number that was attached to a certain card you didn't know about or stealing someone else card who had picked before you or the worst part, someone could steal yours after you.

I sadly experienced that twice but will admit I did one prize steal myself.

I was 5th overall in the card draft. Not a bad spot as a few picked ahead of me for me to steal from but not the best either as 11 picked behind me meaning a steal could easily happen. My first pick at 5 was stealing a box of mystery goods. I was hoping nobody else would take it as a mystery is so exciting but within a pick it was gone. My next selection I went with lucky number 13 which was very lucky landing me a Topps Ripken rookie. But, once again, it was stolen. So I finally said, well, Eli Manning #10 give me some luck.

These extras are from the Topps Walking Dead base set that will be my first Topps Walking Dead cards for my non-sport PC.

 

And to finish up the extras he tossed in, some cool non-sport items. My favorite of the group has got to be Robin Williams with FLUBBER!

 

This was my actual prize winning, three autograph cards. One of which I can easily see in someone else PC. Hint Hint you know who you are :)

 

Oh yeah. There was one more extra which is also now my oldest Giants card I own....

a 1956 Topps Bob Schnelker rookie card

Not Bad News!

Usually I am not the best at predicting scores or stats for games when it comes to winning prizes, but this one time turned out different.

The good people at @SafeAtHomeShop recently held a Twitter contest to guess the combined total of strikeouts in a baseball game and the winner would score a sweet The Bad News Bears autograph.
This was a card I really wanted to win as I didn't own a single one from that set and it would make a nice addition to the non-sports PC.

Come to find out early the next morning, I was spot on with my prediction and announced as the winner. SWEET!

This auto is of Gary Lee Cavagnaro who played an overweight catcher named Mike Engleberg in the film. This is from Panini's Golden Age product that was released for a couple of years then pulled from their lineup. I really wished they would bring it back. It was like Panini's version of Ginter.

The Only Entrant Part 2

On Monday, I posted Part 1 of my mail day contest win from Lingua Sports Cards blog that I still suggest you check out, HERE if you haven't yet.

Today, is the final part of the mail day. This one is a bit shorter, but packs a punch!

Up first, a new Bull Durham card for my Non-Sports PC

 

Refractors! New Tanaka and Ricard adds to my refractor PC. Can't go wrong with the guy in the middle either.

 

Die Cut. I dig these inserts from Stadium Club and can't go wrong with The Wiz!

 

One of the more dominant pitchers in baseball relic from Ginter. Not a bad add.

 

And to finish this up, some really cool medallions of top notch players. I didn't own a single one of these til now. It's amazing how heavy these cards actually are. More and more the manu relics are growing on me. I have actually preferring these more than the jersey cards now.

 

 

As you can see, it was a great win for me. Tons of new PC items added. So if you haven't checked out Lingua Sports Cards yet, do so. You never know when they may do another epic contest like this and you wouldn't want it left again to an Only Entrant. See what I did there?

Padding The Vintage

My Tuesday was full of fun mail days including the one I posted yesterday and one that I am posting today (among a couple other really awesome eBay pickups). It was the most packages I have gotten since Christmas.

Today's posting comes from a contest win from @RJDUB81 on Twitter. Another good guy I suggest you follow.

Up first, some bad pics. HaHa. When the lighting hits the plastic top loader magic doesn't happen on my camera phone. Needs to be the right lighting and I was in a bit of a hurry to get this up so it wouldn't be weeks out.

But, I think you can see them still. I will do my best to summarize.

There is base of Langoria, Rice, shiny refractor of Tulo and The Kip Wells is die cut and numbered. It's a pretty sweet card.

 

Then comes some 90's goodness. Always loved the Hot Commodities design from UD. I didn't have the Smoltz so it's plus. There is a Rickey Henderson from Leaf, a Frank Thomas for my SI For Kids collections and a Fergie Jenkins base. But, its very shiny.

 

This David Justice card is simply awesome.It's a 1999 Fleer Metal Molten Fusion. Something I haven't owned or seen up close. Another plus to my 90's insert PC.

Hold it up to the light and it's even cooler.

A Fractal Matrix parallel I have never owned but now do. A plastic version. I always had the bronze or bronze die cuts. Never one like this. Pretty stoked to add this to the 90's PC. I always appreciate a nice 90's insert that's also numbered. A time when numbering, even to over 3,000, meant something. Go ahead and try looking some up.

 

Now onto some vintage. A part of my collection that is very, very weak as my collecting started in the 90's and the focus has always been then til now. But, when I have an opportunity to add to the vintage part of my collection, I am on-board. I have picked up a few from yard sales before.

We start it out with a nice oversized Brooks Robinson.

 

(I must also note the above was supposed to be the end of the contest win, but @RJDUB81 being the good guy he is, threw in a ton of vintage bonuses in)

 

Then we move onto many more from a variety of years.

 

Other than being a part of cardboard history and extremely collectible, vintage is also fun for the pictures they use. Some are great, some are ones I am sure players regret now. I bet if some people came upon these, Memes would be made.

Dick Donovan appears to be saying, "You talkin to me?"

 

This Mel Roach one was one of my favorites. It appears he is from the movie Psycho or is watching you out his window.

 

Not that the Johnny Romano is much better. He looks like a bad guy off of Dick Tracy.

 

 

No matter the picture however, I am super excited to pad my vintage collection a bit more. I didn't have any of these. The other fun part of vintage were the classic designs, feel and miscuts on the borders. Just adds to the history of these.

Someday I hope to add a vintage Mantle of some-sort and want a card, no matter the player, older than 1952. Preferably something 1933 or older.

Contest Mail Day From 2x3 Heroes!

Around Christmas time, the blog 2x3 heroes was running a Christmas contest and I was one of the winners for a lot of football cards. I received my prize yesterday but with internet down, I couldn't post it til today.

So let's check out what was sent shall we?

Love this card despite Justin not being in a Giants uni. But once a Giant, always a Giant to me.Going to miss him in the league as I hoped he would return back to NY this year, but I wish him the best on his recent retirement.

 

Next up some sweet looking inserts! Some rainbow shine on the Ebron and I like the hands die cut of Nelson.

 

Some rookie cards including Kahlil Mack and Jarvis Landry.
