Binders Reorganization Strikes Back!

It is back. Well, for short time only like the McRib or Taco Bell's Nacho Fries. Binder Reorganization has returned like with a vengeance. Similar to when Jason came back to life in Friday The 13th part 6.

My poor NY Yankees collection has been in need of the same love I gave my Giants collection and since I don't have any new cards incoming, I needed a new project to keep my mind busy so I am going to give them the love they deserve.

There are 4 binders in all to tear apart and sort by player. Right now the current pages look like this,

 

There is no sort to this madness. It was me being lazy and sticking all of my Yankees-minus rookies, Jeter and Judge-all into a binder just to have them out of the way.

I regret neglecting it for so long but it was finally time to tackle it. The fact that I waited so long will make this an even longer project than it should have been.

This is how it currently looks after one binder. So many players that two sorting trays couldn't handle. I had to actually make a section on my desk as well.

 

I am hoping this project will straighten out my Yankees PC, show me who I have the most of for a player-which at this point is Gary Sanchez-and eliminate any doubles I may have. I don't collect doubles of anything unless its rookie cards or autographs or memorabilia or a numbered card.

In one binder alone I have found at least 10 doubles so far. Those cards will go into a pile for my Yankee trading friends. Which I don't have many, well, one so far. I will stick pictures of those doubles into my Trade Bait tab when I finally get that all set up.

Binders Reorganization Update #5

There was a good three month binder tear apart station that spread across my desk, my floor, the kitchen and even on my bed (I had to move that at night) where I completely took apart every binder in my collection to reorganize them.

The project moved a bit faster than even I expected but all is well for now. I may go back and sort my inserts by team or fix my Yankee binders by player. We will see. I would like the Yankee binders fixed at the very least.

Anyways, after the storm all that remains is one tray with assorted cards on it from running out of pages to finish my project. Once I get those, this tray will be empty until I get more cards in hand.

I even found room on my desk once again and was able to finally use those cool custom card stands created by @90sNicheFBCards from our last trade.

After I put the binders back on the shelves, I put index card labels on each shelf letting me know what's in each binder section so I can locate things easier. I would have loved to stand the binders upright but know cards would get ruined over time doing that so flat they lay. Not as pretty, but safe which is more important.

 

There could have been a couple more parts to this series but instead I will be doing sub-series. Sets Of My Childhood and probably something with the shiny stuff I pulled out and made a binder of as well. The Sets Of My Childhood one will be a pretty long series so it's better to be a spinoff instead of dragging this one out over time.

I think a couple of commenters in this series told me I would feel a sense of accomplishment once this was done and I have to agree. I do. But, as we all know, there is never any true end to sorting. We always find a new project or add new cards that need a place to stay.

Binders Reorganization Update #4

Last year it was the Super Box Attack that took me a year to do. A few weekends ago I started digging into my biggest hobby project in since then and one that may take even longer....The Great Binder Reorganization!

I showed you part 1 of my reorganization of football inserts, football rookie inserts and rookie cards that took me a couple of weeks to do. Part 2 I showed off sorting baseball inserts. Part 3 was about basketball rookie cards which leads us to Part 4, the biggest part of the re-sort, baseball rookies.

I had binders and binders and binders of baseball rookies. So, so many. Most of them were from the so-called "junk wax" era so was a little bit of a pain to sort especially since this is over 20+years of rookies stacked here.

I can say one thing however, not all teams were created equal over the years. There were a lot of teams that had many more rookie cards in products. And I can say some of you who complain about certain teams not having enough cards in a product are wrong. The Brewers I think are a common one that people say don't have enough, well, they were in my Top 10 for most. Some of the other top teams, Yankees (no surprise), Cardinals, Padres, Dodgers, Phillies, Cubs,Astros, Giants, and Braves. Rockies would probably be number 11.

Teams in the bottom with fans that should complain are the Marlins, Rangers, and especially Tigers.

Among my sorting, I also found a few nice gems I pulled out to set aside in toploaders. Including, Pedro:

These are just a few gems.

For my rookie sorting I put all of the rookies and the rookie inserts by teams. Players featured in USA or college uniforms had their own binder but not by team. I didn't want to spend time researching what team they played for. 

Well, there you have it. Part 4 is in the books and I believe there will be one more part to this series to come. But, I will also show off other parts in sub-posts such as the Sets Of My Childhood series. I do feel much relief however that the hardest part of this project is done. Onto the finale!

Binders Reorganization Update #3

Last year it was the Super Box Attack that took me a year to do. A few weekends ago I started digging into my biggest hobby project in since then and one that may take even longer....The Great Binder Reorganization!

I showed you part 1 of my reorganization of football inserts, football rookie inserts and rookie cards that took me a couple of weeks to do. Part 2 I showed off sorting baseball inserts. Part 3 should have been showing off my baseball rookie card progress, but I had to take a break from it. It's by far the toughest and longest part of my sort. I am closing in on finishing it, but I had to jump to doing basketball rookies in the meantime.

So today's post is all about the basketball rookie cards.

I only had a few binders to sort through so I knew it wouldn't take me long but give me enough of a break from sorting baseball rookies by team. Originally I had always sorted my basketball by rookies by tossing them into a binder, but no more! It was too hard to find players when they are not being sorted by team so that's exactly what I did.

Along with doing the sorting, I uncovered some gems in the process which I was pretty excited about. I was also able to pull out some cards for my Sets Of My Childhood chase.

Here is one of the gems I found, a Russ Westbrook rookie. I found this and the parallel.

Then came some tremendous Prizm finds I had long forgotten about.

Isiah Thomas,

Kawhi Leonard. This card last year was hot, hot hot!! I believe it is still on the Top 20 hot list in a Beckett.

And then this bad boy.

 

Other than feeling more organized, part of the fun with doing this project is uncovering gems like these and finding other cards that brought back many memories. Some cards I can tell you where I bought them, busted them, who I was with, and maybe more depending on the card.

There is still so much to go in this project. Because what gets taken out, still has to go back in!

Binders Reorganization Update #1

Last year it was the Super Box Attack that took me a year to do. This past weekend I started digging into my biggest hobby project in since then and one that may take even longer....The Great Binder Reorganization!

This has been a project I have spent a year working out the details on how I wanted to approach it as I knew something had to be done to fix the mess I created back in the 90's til today. I don't plan on changing how I sort everything and where it all goes, however, I wanted to put them in binders better. For example, my baseball binders, which have not begun yet, I plan on taking the rookies out and putting them all by team. Something I stopped doing in 2005 or so and not sure why I ever did. This will be a dreaded project as I have bought so much and traded for so much baseball since, but I gotta stick with it. I may also pull out all of the "junk wax" era rookies and place those in a box instead to save binder space. But, the approach may change by the time I get to the baseball mess as my approach with today's did as well.

Today's post is all about football inserts and rookie insert binders I attacked first.

I am currently pulling out star players from the insert binders to place in my by-player boxes. This is something I haven't done in some time and I expect quite the pile when I am done. Along the way, I am also condensing them down making sure that every page is being used and not some empty slots. Hopefully by doing this it will free up some pages I can use for other parts of this project.

As for the rookie insert binders, I am just taking a gander at what I have while pulling a few key cards here and there.

 

 

 

Another thing I am pulling out as well is my new hobby project which I have already mentioned a few days ago, The Sets Of My Childhood. Which involves a lot of late 90's goodness.Some of that late 90's goodness can be seen here. I will have plenty of set chase updates and needs when I get through doing football.

 

Another fun thing about going back through these binders, some I haven't seen in years, is finding some hidden cards I didn't know about. This straggler wasn't supposed to be in the insert binders. This is Giants binder all the way.

This is just the beginning of this possible year long project. I can only fit in doing this when I am not busy or need a blog post to do instead. Which has been kinda restricted with my new blogging format of blogging daily instead of once-a-week. But, it seems the new approach is working.
