The Post Without Cards

Here it is. A post without any cards which is the first time in the 9 and a half years this blog has been going on.

Normally, I would be showing off cards but I had no time for pictures today, so instead I will tackle a touchy subject, Covid-19.

I won't dive into any details, but yesterday was the first time ever I had to be tested for Covid. I am vaccinated and don't have any symptoms but the situation put me in that spot to be tested. Not to mention, my wife (who works in pediatrics) and family had to be as well.

For me, this is overly frustrating for someone who follows the rules such as mask wearing in big groups (even small ones, once again I am vaccinated), washes hands to no end, uses hand sanitizer when possible, and when gets take out in the car-if I have been somewhere like a store first- I will use a fork to eat everything with including fries, donuts and tearing apart a burger. I guess you could refer to me as Sheldon Cooper of Covid.

Why is it frustrating? So many don't follow the rules in place and some don't even believe the virus is real. I know everyone has their own opinions on it, but I think common courtesy would be to at least think about others who do in this situation. It's simple, wear a mask, wash hands at the very least. I don't expect you to get the vaccine, though that would be a huge plus, but please do the simple steps. Keep those of us who follow the rules safe. Keep all healthcare workers safe as well.

Cards,Cards And More Cards

With the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, I sit here thinking about what once was. The freedom to go out shopping, go to work normally, family coming up from Boston and Tennessee, the going to a restuarant, and the other parts that made life normal.

Now it's seclude to your home, my wife going to work dressed up like she was in a movie, can't go to the store unless it's necessities run, family through facetime and life feeling like it will never get back to normal.

Even if it does at some point, life won't ever be the same. I am hoping that will be a positive thing.

I have a few predictions going on in my head sports wise as well. One, the NBA season won't finish. Same goes for NASCAR and NHL. MLB will have to decide if a 30 game season is enough to count. The NFL will have two preseason games and a shortened 8 game regular season. And The National will be postponed til fall or will be cancelled overall. I just feel there is still months to go from going back to a normal life.

2020 will be a year we won't ever forget.

How do I take my mind off from all of that? Well, I shut off the news and I put a lot of focus on sports cards. Whether it's on here or at home. I am not sure where my mind would be without a hobby to rely on.

With all of my newfound extra time, I have been able to squeeze in more time for sorting. I don't sit down for hours of my day to do so, I do have many-many other more important things to do first, but I do squeeze in some breaks and finish a pile or two here and there.

It had gotten so bad, that my entire card "room" was covered on every surface with everything I have sorted by teams or players. The pictures today only show part of the disaster.

One thing I came to realize as I was doing this, my supplies were running low. I use binders,pages, top loaders, boxes and especially penny sleeves which was the most dire need.

That must be the heard need from Dennis over at Too Many Verlanders blog who sent along all of these I got in the mail yesterday. This will be YUGE (sorry threw some Trump in here) in helping me move forward from the mess. Should be enough there to help at least tackle my baseball inserts and maybe dive into some football.

Another mail day I got yesterday was from Rod over at Padrographs. I have just recently in the past few weeks added him and a few other blogs to my blogroll. I am not even sure if he follows my blog or knows of it, but thanks Rod for the mail day. I lost my last Urias auto and this makes an excellent replacement!


I hope my predictions above will be wrong of course. I hope by June we will start to see life again. I worry also about the economy crashing as well and how that will effect everyone. It's an ugly mess right now, but we are all in this together. So please do your part by first of all staying home. It's so easy. Second, please take a few minutes out to post some uplifting words. We see enough negativity all over the internet right now, it would be nice to see something positive. Be someones light.

Covid-19's Hobby Impact For Me

As I sit at home day after day, I am noticing how much of an impact that the Coronavirus-aka Covid-19-is having on my hobby both in a negative and positive way.

Sadly, the negative outweighs the positive for my collecting.

For positive, it's giving me plenty of time to keep up with blogging, some PC numbers, and especially sorting to a certain extent. I have also been contemplating another blog again, this time to stay.

For negative, well, let's start a bullet list.

• I am running low on penny sleeves to put away some of my sorting and don't expect to be able to get any for awhile. Which leaves my card area a complete disaster.
• I made my official last post office run last week til all of this is blown over. With that being said, my usual trades and bigger trades are all put on hold for who knows how long. So for those of you working on a trade with me currently or down the road, keep this in mind.
• I have roughly 6 stamps left to do some PWE trading. I owe a couple of those out already so that leaves me with really four stamps to continue to get a few mail days out of for the months ahead.
• I won't be doing any Reviews on here for who knows how long as companies have stopped sending them for now.
• Without being able to mail and have reviews, contests will come to a halt and everyone knows how much I love to give back.
• Without reviews, being able to get trades in, this will also leave an impact on my blogging at some point as I will run out of things to post. I have some posts already drafted to cover a couple more weeks but who knows what happens after that.

Covid-19 has definetely left its mark on my collecting life as you can see and I am sure I am not alone when it comes to this.

As for life in general outside of the hobby, things are pretty positive. We have enough food, supplies and a roof over our heads to keep us going. My wife hasn't fortunately brought anything home from working as a nurse in a nursing home (another blessing is that she still has a job as I know many have lost theirs right now) and we live in an area where the cases haven't gotten too crazy yet.

It is certainly a weird time we are living in. I never expected to go through any of this in my lifetime but it's happening and very real. It is odd not to be able to see family, go into stores, or even handle the mail and open it immediately, etc. Some days I can handle all of it just fine, and others, well, just are depressing. Something I use my faith to help lift me up another day.

I wish everyone who is reading this the best. Stay healthy, wash your hands and most of all, STAY HOME PLEASE. Let's set an example and move on from this soon. I have a feeling we are still months away but it will be longer if you can't follow simple instructions.

Oh, and if you have to go out for necessities and see one of those idiots licking grocery carts or a metal pole on a subway train with the #CoronaChallenge, hit them for me. It will make both of us feel better.
