Prepon This Mail Day Post From Dennis

 

Christmas may be over, but posts about my mail days from Christmas are not.

I received quite a few mail days overall around Christmas, with some being from trades, some being from RAKs and some being my usual Christmas gifts from yearly collecting buddies.

To kick off this New Year, my blog posts are going to be playing catchup on all of those mail days which begins with todays from Dennis over at Too Many Verlander's blog fame.

Every year, Dennis hits up quite a few bloggers and maybe even former bloggers with his excellent Christmas mail days. Mine, as with any mail day I get from Dennis, did not disappoint.

This is a Gold Medallion from one of the top running backs in NY Giants history.

I can't remember, but pretty sure I claimed this card and

this one as well for my 90's PC. I never turn down a great looking 90's card regardless of who the player is.

Speaking of that, this Bernie Williams right here may have been one of my favorite cards from the entire mail day. This is from 1998 Pacific Paramount and I definitely need the Griffey like this now.

Kadarius Toney isn't one of my most favorite former Giants players, but he was still in blue if even for a short time. The Prizm green is a super shiny cool in-person card.

Plaxico Burress however is one of my favorites. He is also the one I believe helped lead Eli Mannings career and definitely was the reason the Giants made a run in 2008 and beat the Patriots in Super Bowl 42.

Allan Houston will always rank as one of my favorite Knicks all time. I think this may be an in-person or TTM autograph? Not sure if this one is on his checklist. I haven't had the chance to check either.

The next two cards Dennis must have seen on my all-time want list.

My very first Ike Hilliard autograph. I don't know how I didn't already have one since Ike played for the Gmen so long ago, but I didn't. Now I do and he can be crossed off.

 

And Laura Prepon who most may remember as Donna Pinciotti in That 70's Show. That's the main reason I wanted to have this autograph. This goes in the non-sports nostalgia pc part.

Dennis Makes My Weekend

Most of us on Monday mornings are dealing with the Monday morning drag, but, not me today. I am on a high as the NY Football Giants are starting the season 2-0 for the first time in 6 years!!

Am I expecting this to be a Super Bowl team? Not even close. Do I expect a playoff run? No, not really. Will there be a bright future, yes, I believe there will finally be one.

Not only am I on a high from the big win but getting a mail day from Too Many Verlanders also helps.

Dennis once again somehow knew what to send without hitting me with too many duplicates.

Actually, the only duplicate was this Phil Simms.

Which is beyond impressive since I have 6500+ Giants cards.

Sending numbered ones like Ron Dayne is always helpful. Hard to get dupes when you send numbered cards.

Same thing for this Andre Woodson. Who is also a reminder of all of the QB's the Giants went through for backups.

Ramses Barden is not numbered, but I also didn't have it.

Joe is not only numbered, but this card also has a great photo. That's what I call a double win.

Dennis had this one up for grabs in his trade bait post, I don't ever turn down a shiny 90's insert. Doesn't matter the player.

With 2021 Prizm being impossible to find, I will take any parallels of the Giants I can get. Sadly, I don't have this base card of Jones yet.

And the biggest surprise of this package was a card I have been wanting for some time and have been meaning to add to my Top Want List on here....

 

Dynamic Duos!! How cool is this card?? I have really been into the superhero/sport crossovers.

 

These cards were produced in 2001 and were numbered to 1499.

I spotted this card window shopping on eBay last year but forgot to add it to my want list.

Thanks again for the mail day Dennis. I am working on yours still and a few others I am hoping to get all out by Christmas.

Throw Me A Link

Once upon a time, Dennis from Too Many Verlanders blog fame sent me a link via Twitter to a cheap BIN of a Giants 1/1 Printing Plate.

There were no words spoken. Just a link.

The assumption I made was that I was supposed to grab this card and fortunately I had the money to do so at that time. It doesn't always work that way but it did that day.

Here is that said card. A Prizm 1/1 printing plate rookie card of Kyle Lauletta

 

It's a Cyan Plate according to the back.

Thanks to Dennis for the heads up on this card. Glad it was able to work out for me this time. Not sure it will always but this time, yes.

Cards,Cards And More Cards

With the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, I sit here thinking about what once was. The freedom to go out shopping, go to work normally, family coming up from Boston and Tennessee, the going to a restuarant, and the other parts that made life normal.

Now it's seclude to your home, my wife going to work dressed up like she was in a movie, can't go to the store unless it's necessities run, family through facetime and life feeling like it will never get back to normal.

Even if it does at some point, life won't ever be the same. I am hoping that will be a positive thing.

I have a few predictions going on in my head sports wise as well. One, the NBA season won't finish. Same goes for NASCAR and NHL. MLB will have to decide if a 30 game season is enough to count. The NFL will have two preseason games and a shortened 8 game regular season. And The National will be postponed til fall or will be cancelled overall. I just feel there is still months to go from going back to a normal life.

2020 will be a year we won't ever forget.

How do I take my mind off from all of that? Well, I shut off the news and I put a lot of focus on sports cards. Whether it's on here or at home. I am not sure where my mind would be without a hobby to rely on.

With all of my newfound extra time, I have been able to squeeze in more time for sorting. I don't sit down for hours of my day to do so, I do have many-many other more important things to do first, but I do squeeze in some breaks and finish a pile or two here and there.

It had gotten so bad, that my entire card "room" was covered on every surface with everything I have sorted by teams or players. The pictures today only show part of the disaster.

One thing I came to realize as I was doing this, my supplies were running low. I use binders,pages, top loaders, boxes and especially penny sleeves which was the most dire need.

That must be the heard need from Dennis over at Too Many Verlanders blog who sent along all of these I got in the mail yesterday. This will be YUGE (sorry threw some Trump in here) in helping me move forward from the mess. Should be enough there to help at least tackle my baseball inserts and maybe dive into some football.

Another mail day I got yesterday was from Rod over at Padrographs. I have just recently in the past few weeks added him and a few other blogs to my blogroll. I am not even sure if he follows my blog or knows of it, but thanks Rod for the mail day. I lost my last Urias auto and this makes an excellent replacement!


I hope my predictions above will be wrong of course. I hope by June we will start to see life again. I worry also about the economy crashing as well and how that will effect everyone. It's an ugly mess right now, but we are all in this together. So please do your part by first of all staying home. It's so easy. Second, please take a few minutes out to post some uplifting words. We see enough negativity all over the internet right now, it would be nice to see something positive. Be someones light.

Sending Along The Hits

Dennis over at Too Many Verlanders blog fame sent me one-well-rounded mail day.

Yesterday you saw some Giants and 90's inserts, today, you are checking out some hits he passed along.

This Franklin I claimed from a pile of autographs he had up for grabs because I have friend who is a big Packers fan I am passing it along to. That friend has helped me with many of my projects on here and least I could do.

Paul Perkins Silhouettes jersey. These look just as good as the autograph versions.

Ramses Barden never really got a ton of playing time with the Giants so didn't make a huge impact. I find his autograph to be curious. What's the scribble above his RB?

I liked this guy a lot when he got playing time. Reminded me of the Giants Steve Smith. He was crafty and could make plays which he did in games he made starts. However, the Giants didn't see it and cut him. He now is a High School WR coach

I don't remember much about Hall, but I remember landing plenty of his cards. I didn't however land this Sp Authentic one. I have always been a fan of adding SPA when I can. Upper Deck had a great product line with that.

Clay was supposed to help the Giants return woes with his speed, but, when you muff a punt in the season opener at a critical spot, well, you don't get too far with the team.

Travis Rudolph was a guy I was very high on after watching him in the preseason of 2017 as he was explosive and I was dead set on this guy making it big. Well, he only had a few receptions and a few yards in the minimal opportunities the Giants gave him. Now he is playing in the CFL. However, he is only 24 years old so his shot at the NFL is not completely out of reach.

Dennis Sends Some Hidden Gems

Dennis over at Too Many Verlanders blog fame,is the blogger I trade the most with in the blogosphere. I also find he is the easiest as well.

We also have a few things in common which makes it easy to do trades. We both collect Ken Griffey Jr-he probably collects more him recently than myself- and we both have a love of 90's inserts. Common collecting gives you someone to send your doubles to so they just don't sit in a box for years.

We also both know how to send the "just right" mail days to one another.

Recently, I received one of those "just right" mail days from him and once again was left with a big smile on my face. Dennis is very good at strategically finding the right Giants cards I don't have and then adding in random stuff he knew I would be a big fan of.

Let's start out with this Saquon I didn't have from 2019 Prizm Draft.

And even though I do have this Spellbound Barkley, I have them in special holders and not in my Giants binder so that's where this one will reside.

Landon Collins rookie and a Ahmad Bradshaw mini I didn't have

I didn't get much 2019 football so this Barkley was new as well.

I do have this Rodney Hampton, but when a card looks this good and is from Hogg Heaven, I will be more than happy to take two.

Evan Engram Playoff Ticket Parallel from Contenders. I don't believe I own a single Giants parallel from any Contenders so this is a first.

Now we dig into random 90's insert goodness.

I don't own any of the Ring Leaders and have been wanting one for some time. Now I have two. Awesome! These look just as impressive up close.

This cards shine and die cut of a star into the card brings this card to heights that no cards from today can touch.

Marvel, especially Spider Man plus football cards, sign me up!

I remember when I pulled the refractor version of this of Griffey when I broke a box. That was an awesome day. I will take on anything chrome from the 90's.

I have a few of these put together now...hmmm....

The one card from this set is Griffey but that was peeled with a few minor scratches on it. This is why folks we don't remove the protective film!

There is a Kerry Collins card like this one I still need. Once again, the 90's creativity hit new heights with every release because of the competition. Imagine what it would do to today's hobby if we had more than one license for the sports.

More Topps Chrome. Love it! Gunslingers insert of John Elway and a refractor insert of Jeff George.

And then came these Hidden Gems in the middle of my package. Not only are they the Hidden Gems inserts but they are also the refractors of them. I will do a better job of capturing these down the road but the cards look sooooooooooooooooooooo good. I had forgotten about these until now and now I want more because of this. Wonder what that means......
