PACK WARS EPISODE 5

It's back and back with a fury in the latest Pack Wars post. There may be quite a few of these coming up so hope you have been enjoying this series, I am also trying to use up some of my backlogged posts.

Today it's the battle of chromed up Panini products, let's check it out.

$25 A Week Challenge Week 14:Not Much To Show

Well, this weeks edition doesn't have a lot to show in terms of cards.

There is a reason for this, my wife's birthday is coming up on the 15th and I needed to make sure I had something for her. You know, not be selfish (especially when my birthday is four days after hers), so I wasn't and used up some leftovers from past funds and some from this one.

So this weeks funds were not as much but I was still able to snag a couple decent deals.

I haven't had the time or space on the blogging calendar to come up with a post on this but I am currently collecting the 2019 Optic football set. I am roughly 30 cards away from completion and this is the first new age set I have tried to collect in 6 years as I don't care about modern day set collecting much. But, since I picked up a ton of Optic, I figured, hey why not.

I had a lot of the big guns left to pick up for the set including Daniel Jones (was in last weeks $25 a week), Dwayne Haskins, Kyler Murray, Drew Lock and Josh Jacobs.

This week, I was able to knock a couple of those names down.

First up, Dwayne Haskins.

that came paired with Hunter Renfrow for $3 plus $2.99 shipping. Which can't go wrong with a Haskins for $1.50 when you break it down looking at his single prices.

Then came the Kyler Murray. Usually going for about $10+ but the fact that this one was off-centered, I managed to land it for $3.25 plus $4 shipping. Who gives a hoot that the player is off from his silhouette some? I don't.

My biggest worry was how the seller shipped the card. NO TOPLOADER. For the $4 shipping I was hoping for at least a Toploader. I know he was thinking it was safe between two pieces of cardboard but not when someone is trying to break into it to get the card out. So I did my best Tom Cruise and Mission Impossibled the  packaging and got Murray out safely.

This weeks total, $13.24

I am now a bit closer to my set , so even though I didn't get much this week, I was still happy with my overall finds including my gift.

CARDBOARD REVIEW:2019 Panini Phoenix Football

It's amazing to me how fast this 2019 football season has gone. Felt like it was already yesterday when I first suited up in Giants blue jersey and hat and screamed at my television and now we are only weeks away from the playoffs.

As the football season winds down, so doesn't the NFL releases which puts me at a very sad place knowing my team isn't going to make the playoffs and knowing how much I love football cards.

One of the latest releases by Panini is 2019 Phoenix. Which is a product that has been around a few years now and one I rather like. I mean, who doesn't want another chrome-type product in their life?

I have yet to have much success with it, but hopefully this time? Let's check out how my break went below!

In every box of 2019 Phoenix football there are 12 packs with 5 cards per pack. You will also find 2 autographs and one memorabilia card per box as well. Boxes have dropped some in price and you can now find them roughly at $115.

BASE CARDS

 

The base cards are printed on chrome technology and are team color focused and single player focused. There are 200 cards in the base set split up between 100 veterans and 100 rookies.

 

The rookie card design is just a tad different than the base.

PARALLELS

HITS

I love the inclusion of legends of the game and this card sparkles like no other, however, I don't like player worn jersey material. Such a great looking card too!!

Not a bad find here despite his very poor autograph showing. K'neal Harry has big time potential with the leagues best QB throwing to him.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:
Solid effort again in this product. I didn't hit it too big once again but at least the Harry is a decent pull. I would like to see the veterans in this product have more game used stuff and not so much player worn stuff. The inserts were a tad bland for my liking as I feel they need to be upgraded some for next years edition.

Box price isn't terrible for three hits and some potential big ones. I like the addition of Veteran and Retired signatures as there are some great names on the list. I suggest at least getting yourself into a box break of this product if nothing else.

CARDBOARD REVIEW:2019 Certified Fooball (Bonus Hit!!)

Alrighty folks! Panini Certified is back again for 2019 and comes with everything you love about it. The nostalgia, the foil and the patch autographs and some legends of the past.

Every year I try to get my hands onto a box just to say I kept up a streak. So let's see how the 2019 version treated me.

In every box of 2019 Certified football, there are 10 packs of 5 cards. Much different configuration without the 24 packs. There are four hits including 2 autographs per box. Boxes currently stand at $125.

BASE:

The Certified design sticks to it's regular look. A player focused foil covered card. Once in awhile with added border design like this years. There are 200 cards in the base set including,

30 Immortals that are players from the past and are numbered to 399

And these rookies that are numbered to 399. You may find some hidden gems in the rookie mix as most aren't the big names you will find in the autograph patch version.

PARALLELS:

Overall look at the parallels in Certified
MIRROR PARALLELS: Mirror /450, Orange /199, Red /99, Blue /50, Teal /35, Gold /25, Gold Etch FOTL /25, Purple /10, Green /5, AND Black 1/1.

New Generation is rookie loaded like this Slayton of the Giants who could get some play time with Tate out the first four games

Irv Smith Jr is a Mirror Orange /299

Freshman Fabric is technically apart of the base set and picks up at card 201 and finishes at card 240 which is this Renfrow. Two decent WR's I landed but not sure how great they will be on the teams they play. One thing I will say, look at the patches! Design is nice to.

OVERALL:My hits weren't that big in my break, but an extra hit helps. What also is great is that I didn't get any Panini Points or a redemption card, so that's a plus. The product looks great as a whole and I especially have a man crush on the Freshman Fabric.

With so many hits options and the box price being over $100, most collectors who can't afford it would be best off buying into a box break.
