25 Days Of Cardmas Day 19: All I Want For Christmas Is You

Sorry readers. I know this title will hit your every nerve as we all know that big Mariah Carey hit is the most played Christmas song on the radio. It's not that its a bad song per say, but a lot are sick of hearing it.

Today's card features Jim Kelly getting ready to launch a Christmas present deep. Just hopefully there will be no Dallas Cowboys in his way. Sorry Bills fans.

The back of the card is like reading a Christmas card from the Kelly and Skybox family to us.

I know when it comes to presents this year, I always hope for card boxes and eBay gift cards but it doesn't always translate to that. A gift is a gift though because it comes from the heart. I know that sounds like a corny line from a Hallmark Movie but it's so true.

When I grew up, I was always disappointed by my presents though I know it was stuff my parents knew I would like. They just couldn't afford to get the stuff I actually really wanted like that Ghostbusters fire house or the entire line of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers figures. Every year I would get a notebook (I told you I love to write), some form of clothing and maybe one of the toys I asked for. Sometimes they would sign up for a Santa Fund which gives presents out to low income families. I wouldn't always get what I wanted from that either but made due. 

Even though stuff wasn't always what I wanted, I didn't just toss it in the trash. I always put it to full use and always treated and kept my stuff like a gem mint card.

Big or small gifts, its not the gift that counts. It's the thought. I tell myself that all of the time and live by it and hope you do as well.

Let's Talk About Sets Volume 35:1995 Summit Football

If I was to choose a fourth favorite base set from the 90's, that's grouping all Spx hologram sets at number one, it would be Spx, Zenith and then Summit.

I can't explain what drew me to it, but I really fell madly for it.

 

The 200 card base set included solid base design

A couple of well named subsets such as Collision Course

And all of the key rookies from 1995 such as Steve McNair and Kordell Stewart.

Thanks to my recent mail day from @CardpocalypseNC I was able to add a nice stack of base towards my set. If only it was this easy to add the Ground Zero parallels. I still have a ways to go with those.

Let's Talk About Sets Volume 23:1995 Skybox Premium

Skybox Premium always brought their A game when it came to making a really solid base set design. Especially from 1995 and up.

But, none of them caught my eye more than 1995 that I bought a ton of back then.

I enjoyed the many layers it presents.

The regular base design. Yup, that nostalgia is kicking in

A newspaper add...so cool.

And one of the best, well, the best looking subset of all time. Nothing tops this. This card even looks better than today's inserts.

 

Kerry Collins rookie car. Kinda cool looking and a PC piece.

Off Hiatus Baseball Card Blog Mail Day

Recently, Off Hiatus Baseball Card Blog celebrated their 1 year blogversary. As a way to celebrate, he sent out many packages to readers who listed off what they collect or would want for a mail day. I of course listed NYY and Ken Griffey Jr.

Later that day, he emailed me asking if I would prefer something off my most wanted list instead of the Yankees and Griffey. If not, he would still send Yankees.  I couldn't say no to the most wanted list. My most wanted list is my main wants in the hobby and if I have a chance to knock some cards off that list, I will take it any day.

Fast forward a few days and these four rookie cards arrived helping me knock four more off my list

Wade Boggs. You could technically call this a Yankees PC add too.

Same thing for "The Rocket"

Always wanted a Kirby, I mean, who wouldn't. The guy was one of the greats.

 

And finally, Jim Kelly's Rookie. Now that I have Kelly in hand, only Marino and Young remains for rookies I need from that era.
