The New 20

After a few months of sitting on my Top 20 MOST WANTED list on here and not moving anywhere with a lot of them, I decided it was time to erase some of them and add some new ones to the list. I am also hoping that some of my favorite people, you my readers, will be able to help me in my chase to land some of these.

What Left? Other than a few cards I actually accomplished from the list, the Kyle Schwarber rainbow chase is over. I pulled the Superfractor from 2020 Stadium Club Chrome as you guys saw but I have zero luck in landing or finding anything else to pair with it. It's disappointing since it's the second Super I own and first I pulled. But, I may throw it up on the trade block as plenty of Cubs fans may be interested. I would have to be blown away by a trade offer though.

What's New? I added a couple Project 2020 cards to the list and a couple of Topps Now. The Project 2020 cards have a deeper meaning to me then just being Yankees and the Topps Now ones are for my Non Sport PC.T hen there is also that Black Cat card I have wanted for two years.

And there you have it. I always keep this list up when and if I add any off from it.

Comin' In Hot:The Mail Day I Wasn't Sure Would Arrive

I gave my Hotmail inbox a check one day and found that Nate over at The Buc Stops Here blog had contacted me again about another awesome soon to be trade. What we didn't know, is what would pursue next.

I mailed mine out a day before he did and he received my end in a couple of days. However, the USPS showed us some love by having his end never arrive to me. I checked in on a daily basis to let Nate know it hadn't arrived and we had gotten up to more than 10 days before Nate and I both decided it wasn't going to come and Nate was going to graciously replace the lost cards. Well guess what, USPS said "hey, even though the right address is on here, let's send it back to the sender" and they did. Nate got the envelope in the mail and re-sent it back out. Once again it took a little longer than expected, but it finally came into my possession and I did the happy dance.

Both Nate and I couldn't believe I actually had it.

Well, here is the proof.

Nate has been a HUGE help in knocking down my set needs from 90's chrome. Corey Dillion was another big name I was lacking from the 1997 Topps Chrome set.

Fred Taylor was one for my 1998 Topps Chrome set which is ever so creeping towards being completed

 

Especially after adding the last big one I needed in Moss. I have had the Peyton for awhile now.

Thanks again Nate for the set help. I look forward to our next trade and hopefully it arrives a bit more peaceful.

Cratty Takes Me Back

@CrattyPatty25 and myself have been sending each other mailings over the past couple of years. It started out as trades, but have turned more into surprise arrivals now. Which is a whole lot more fun. Save the trades for the bigger valued cards.

He contacted me recently with a card lot he had bought on Twitter containing some 90's cards and wanted to see if I was interested in any of them knowing that 90's is what it's all about to me right now.

Shortly after, a bubbler arrived with the cards I chose along with a few surprises. Let's check it out,

Great mixture here. Barry Sanders and Fred Taylor (still looking for a Taylor auto for my PC). Brian Urlacher rookie card which you can never go wrong with. Steve Young with the Hot Numbers and an amazing in person card of Gale Sayers at the bottom. It's very shiny despite the dull appear here.

Some Jerry Rice additions. And no, I won't be peeling the the peeling off from the certified. That's a big no-no to me.

 Numbered Terrell Owens. I wasn't ever a fan, but I do like the older numbered cards.

 Randy Moss who is second best WR I have ever seen play. Jerry Rice will always be the GOAT.

Dan Marino with two inserts and a Topps Chrome base help. Not to mention a Hot Numbers. Will this be added to my 1995 set chase....

Here are just a few of the NY Giants base and inserts he passed along as well. I didn't want to fill this whole post a blog long. He packs a ton in a small package.

 Shiny Paul Perkins relic. There seemed to have been a Perkins theme here.

Great looking on card autograph of Perkins here with Flawless. It may be the first Flawless card in my collection. I still would like to chase down a piece of jewel card of a NY Giant.

And to finish it up, a /25 Gold autograph of Paul Perkins. Beautiful card!

Seems my Paul Perkins collection recently has been having a nice facelift recently. Which may not be a bad thing as he is on the Giants roster and possibly rumored to be Saquon's backup.

With a mail day like this, I have a lot of work to put in here with writing down updated NY Giants numbers and sorting out the rest of the players. I try to do it immediately so I won't have all of the work to do at once.

The Wes Wing Episode 1

Welcome to the Wes Wing. Where there are no politics, just cardboard with peoples pictures, signatures and swatches of their clothing.

It's the part of a house where you must have extra space when you know a mail day is coming from the blogging legend with generosity overload , Wes.

Today is just the first of many episodes as we dig our way into the Wes Wing and show the cardboard gallery goodness that you can only find in......The Wes Wing.

 

Let's kick it off with a Dual relic of McDermott and Lange from American Horror Story for my non sport PC.

 

Quad Relic featuring a NY Giants player in Pete Mitchell on the back. I had forgotten about Pete til I saw this card.

 

Totally loved this dual relic of Dayne and Shockey. Great stuff! Didn't have anything like it.

 

Then I found a football cube filled with goodies. I will show some off in the next few pictures.

There Are Some Beauties To Find

There are some beauties to find in these cubes that Wes packed. Every cube has wonders within and here we are with the latest reveal from the big box of goods that Wes sent my way.

This Shonn Greene card was the topper for this cube. It's got a decent photograph, but not what the chase was. It was all on the inside.

Certified Gold Future of Craig Yeast. They sure don't make inserts like they used to.

Remember these? I do. I still have some in my collection but not one like this. I miss the creativity we once had. Of course now they would probably do a pin drive version today or a downloadable app.

I will never get used to seeing Emmitt Smith in a Cardinals uniform. He should have walked away afterwards.

Cause three outta four ain't bad. Sorry Joe Flacco. I know you won a Super Bowl but things have derailed for you since.

I don't care that this is Brandon Stokley, I loved this card design. Would be a fun, but expensive set to build.

Always wanted this card in the 90's and never got it, but glad to finally have it now.

90's insert printed on acetate of one of the greatest receivers of all time and on one of the greatest 90's products of all time, yes please!

Lots of great running backs here. Gold Label in the 90's so much better than todays.

Great Post vintage card.

Finally landed a Bo Jackson football rookie and Gronk, despite being a Patriot, is an unstoppable beast that you have to admire.

My first ever USFL card. Not sure who he is, but look at that stylin hair!

This guy has been solid for the Vikes. Kind of an odd signature.

Nice signature, if only the player had panned out.

And finally, a letterman auto of a guy I kept hitting in Aaron Dobson. He never panned out but I always like adding letterman especially if I decide to change this blog name some day. Yes, I am still considering it.

Not Action Packed

Back in the 90's we were fortunate enough to collect a really unique product called Action Packed. Here are a few examples to refresh your memory,

 

What made the product unique? Well, it was one that included embossing. What is that? Well, it's when they "raise" certain parts of the card to stand up. Meaning a player, product name, etc you could feel higher than the flat surface. It was another step in innovation and made the card feel, well, action packed.

It was a sad day when the product no longer was continued on later in the 90's and I thought all was lost forever til news had broke to me that Panini had revived the brand name in an insert set for Rookies And Stars football.  I had been begging Tracy Hackler to mention reviving the brand to the team for a few years now and thought my dream finally came true.

Came out to celebrate. Those bumpy cards were back!!!

At least I thought they were.

Just like any product or brand name that has been tried to be revive from the 90's, it all fell flat. Literally this time.

Panini had a great design, even captured Action Packed's good photography but failed to emboss the cards. The whole point of the brand name Action Packed is for it to be action packed. These were not.

Not one....

Single....

Bump.

 

  

It was beyond disappointing. But, in someways, I wasn't a bit surprised that another favorite brand from the 90's didn't live up to it's once big podium. 

The only bigger disappointment for me was when Upper Deck revived the Spx designs from the late 90's I so loved but failed to use hologram technology on them. How do you not?!?!!?!

 

 

Everything else is there except that. The most important parts of my favorites are missing.

What brands have you been excited about that were brought back only to disappoint you? Or which ones have been brought back to impress you as much as the original?
