Houston's Cardboard:1999-2000 Fleer Mystique

 

Shiny Houstons are always the first cards I want to add to my Allan Houston PC. In my last trade with @CardPocalypseNC I was surprised with a stack of Houstons in my trade package. All of which will make an appearance with this segment.

Fleer Mystique was a fun product in the late 90's, but I do remember one problem with it. Sometimes the foil on the card would peel up. Hopefully I can store this one in a great place so it doesn't.

90's Flashback:1999-2000 Upper Deck Century Legends Jaromir Jagr

Upper Deck pounded out a ton of excellent products as we headed into the 2000's. One of the most popular was Upper Deck Legends/Century Legends. The product packed fun inserts and top notch autographs.

I acquired this card from my father when we did a trade last spring.

I like the design, but gotta say that Jaromir doesn't appear to. Look at that face!

90's Flashback:1999-2000 Pacific Paramount Holo Silver Parallel Benoit Bruneet

What can I say.....I love Pacific!

Pacific always put out some tremendous products in the 90's and early 2000's. I can only imagine what they could put out now-a-days. It also makes me very sad at the same time.

This particular card I acquired in a trade with my father who was looking to move some 90's hockey inserts, more to come, for some newer day rookies.

90's Flashback:1999-2000 Topps All-Topps Teemu Selanne

If you have been reading this blog at all, you know my love of 90's inserts. Some of the best ones bring out a shine like no other.

That's why I am flashing back to 1999-2000 to show you guys this Teemu Selanne card. Don't get too attached however, it's staying in my collection.

Breakin Wax:1999-2000 Topps Basketball Series 1 Pack Break

You wanted another edition of Breakin Wax, well you got it. Especially if you are a fan of basketball cards.

In each pack of 1999-2000 Topps basketball cards is 11 cards. These cards are a mix of veterans and rookies. Speaking of rookies, this was the year of some great ones such as Jason Terry, Ron Artest, Elton Brand, Baron Davis, and Lamar Odom among many others. Packs can be found relatively cheap.

I will say right off, I hated this border color. It was so ugly and bright. I am not quite sure if Topps was trying to mock a basketball or what, but to me it looks like they are in orange jello or something. At least the photography is still nice.

I was always a big fan of Larry Johnson so I was pretty stoked to had found him in my pack.

And a nice insert pull to top it off! Hakeeeeeeeeeemmm Olajuwon! These inserts fell at 1:12 odds. I seem to be having some great luck recently with late 90's Topps basketball.

Overall, no rookies again, but an insert was pulled so that made me happy. With my recent luck maybe I should go back and try a few of these over again. You just never know what you may pull or which player will show up.  Most importantly, the fun you can have.

Breakin Wax:1999-2000 Bowman's Best Basketball Pack Break

Bowman's Best to me was Chrome's cousin. It had all of the makings of Chrome, but yet still wasn't chrome.

I am sorry about lack of pack picture, but I promise if I find one I will add at a later date. Either way, here is a breakdown of a pack. In each pack of 1999-2000 Bowman's Best is 6 cards. You get roughly 5 vets and 1 rookie per pack. Packs roughly go for about $5 each now. This product is still very popular.

The design as I stated above, was similar to Chrome both in design and feel. There were also refractor parallels to find that look amazing with this design. If you don't believe me or want to see one, go eBay look up one.

Overall, an okay break. I would have liked to had pulled an refractor but you can't always get what you want. That's why the chase is so much fun.

That 90's Mail Day: Kevin Garnett 10 Card Lot

I have found a new love of searching for card lots on eBay especially when you can get one for a steal and that's what I did right here. This 10 card lot of Kevin Garnett came with an insert, 4 rookie cards and a bunch of memories all for $2.99. Now that's a steal.

Here are the 10 cards I got in the lot:

Pretty cool huh? I think so. I had traded away my Garnett rookie a few years ago and have been needing one since, now I have four.

90's Rip Party: 1999-2000 Topps Basketball 1 Pack Break

Yup, you guessed it. I wanted to Michael Jordan hunt again. The only difference this time was the fact I was insert hunting as well. The problem was that this break provided neither for me. However, 1999-2000 Topps did provide me with 11 cards in a pack and gave me a shot at some sweet looking inserts and even a NBA Superstar autograph.

What did I get in this particular break, well you will have to read on to find out!

Overall, wasn't a terrible break in terms of the players I pulled and I did get a rookie. One of my favorite cards was the John Starks (Knicks fan) even though he was playing for the Warriors at the time. I wasn't a huge fan of the orange bordered design in this product even though I get what they were trying here to try and match a basketball color. However, with this kind of color it takes your focus off from the photo and puts in all onto the border. I can't even look at them without being blinded!
