Random Card Of The Day:2021 Topps Chrome Platinum Anniversary Jackie Robinson

Update

*it's time for some update, coffee and cards. Sounds like a good start to a "warm" 30 degree morning. Almost T-Shirt and shorts weather! Takes a sip, begins to start today's post*

The title of today's post is update and I have a few. Let's start with these,

1. The blog is still snail paced growing after much promoting of it. Not sure what steps to take to get this blog going more.
2. Trying to build up this blog more has cost my other two blogs better content. I may take some time off from here to work on them. No worries about my coffee though, there won't be a break from that.
3. I had my virtual non alcoholic fatty liver appointment. The Liver Specialist is going to send me for multiple blood work, possibly put me on some medications (that's all I need is another medication) and have me come down to her in May to run a test on my liver to see if there is any scarring from having this issue for years. Just hoping all of that goes well. She did say however, keep on drinking coffee as coffee is good for the liver! Woo Ha!
4. My kidney check-in is for the 23rd of this month to see if the medications they gave me helped the blockage in my right kidney. I will be getting an ultrasound before that appointment to check. If the medications didn't work, they will test me further and who knows what happens from there.
5. Have any cards to trade? Well, I do to. I am always up for a good trade!

One more update....

Some 2020 Topps Chrome Update baseball.

Each 2020 Topps Chrome Update Mega Box comes with 28 cards which is 7 packs of 4 cards. There are no guarantees in here but I have seen some pull 1/1 Superfractors and autographs from the product. I was hoping for the same. Each box roughly costs $30-$50 depending on when and how you buy it.

The base set is built up of 100 cards. Players featured are from the past and present.

Cal Ripken Jr (well not really PC, but dig a 90's guy find)

And Ken Griffey Jr, still my biggest PC I have.

My rookies started off rough.

Not many big names to see in the first six packs.

That's not until I got to the last pack. Where I found this Bo Bichette.

And Luis Robert.

So not too bad of a start to this box. Let's check out the inserts next.

I found it odd that I didn't pull a single parallel in my break but they must be hard to find. There are these offerings to be had if I had pulled one,
Pink, Pink Wave, Refractor /250, X-Fractor /99, Gold /50, Red /25, SuperFractor 1/1, and Printing Plates 1/1.

I did land some insets though, all of which I really liked the designs of.

There are 25 cards in this set and they fall 1:4 packs.

And my favorite card of this break, Numbers Game Jackie Robinson. I cannot tell you in words how great this card looks and my picture doesn't even touch it's beauty. It's like that perfect cup of coffee you can only taste, but can't describe.

There are 25 cards in this set and falls 1:4 packs.

*takes a sip, definitely not the perfect cup for this morning but is at least something to keep me going*

I am sure I will have updates on my updates to post when the time comes to do so, that way I won't leave you all hanging.

As for now, I am going to finish this cup of coffee and get going on the day. As you get older you come to realize more and more you don't want to waste a single minute of your day and I have lots to accomplish.

Wasn't A Dimwit To Enter This!

Back in May, yes, I am waaaaaaaaaayyyyy behind on posting mail days, I won a contest over on The Daily Dimwit blog. It wasn't just a surprising contest with a surprising card up for grabs, but I was in shock that I won. Still am.

The contest was pretty simple. You just had to share the big news that he was blogging again. That's it. That's stinkin' it for a chance at a beautiful 2004 Topps Clubhouse Collection relic of Brooklyn Dodgers legend Jackie Robinson.

So I did just that and somehow won the random. Whoa. It wasn't long after that this bad boy arrived. Looks even better in person

 

 

Jackie was on my list of baseball players I wanted a relic of along with Mantle, Maris, etc. So now he can be crossed off. That's only part of the reason why this card is so special. It's also a part of MLB history when you think about what Robinson did for the game breaking the color barrier and playing. Amazing.

Full House

As another year kicks off, my mother in law is on the hunt for cards for me from yard sales and antique stores. Well, yard sales haven't started yet here but hopefully soon.

Antique stores are open however and that's where she found today's finds.

Here first find was this unopened pack of Topps Archives from 1991.

 

Up to this point I haven't opened it. I kind of wanna keep it sealed since there really isn't anything to chase inside, but on the other hand, I wanna open it because it's an unopened pack waiting to be busted. We will see.

The other cool find was this metal tin box of what I thought was cards but turned out to be.....

Playing cards. But, an All-Century Team playing cards. These were created back in 2000 and were something I haven't seen before.

I opened them up and pulled out some of the cards and was impressed. Vintage black and white photos with a colorful playing ball and card shapes making for a nice blend. I would buy an actual trading card set like this if there was one!

I didn't show off all 52 names in the set, but all of the big ones are in there. For now, I am just showing off a few of my favorites,

Pretty cool don't you think? I will most likely keep them in the box but I have considered paging these as a set as well. Right now I am out of pages so they would be forced in the box either way but I am one who likes to keep things as is like this. That's a big part of my hobby OCD.

As always, when my mother in law finds more items this year or if I do, I will post them as they are picked up.

Breakin Wax:2015 Stadium Club Baseball 8-Hobby Pack Break

Topps Stadium Club has everything that I look for in a product. Amazing photography on base cards, reminiscent inserts and to me a lack of focus on the hits. This is the first product in awhile that brings me back.

I wanted to open more than what I did, but I also wanted to spread my funds around as much as possible so was glad to open what I did. Gone are the mini boxes of last year and it welcomes a hobby box of 16 packs. I like the change.

What did I find and what were my thoughts? Well, read on.

In every hobby pack of 2015 Topps Stadium Club baseball are 8 cards with one of them being an insert. Each pack for me was $7 but I got it at an LCS so I assume they must be about $5 normally. Once again, I don't mind supporting an LCS seeing what it's like without one where I live.

Each Stadium Club base card is simple but masterfully done. No borders. No bold names and oversized font. No colored backgrounds. Just plain...wait for it.....BASEBALL! Isn't that why we buy baseball cards?  It doesn't have to always be about the pizazz! Give us baseball. Bring us closer to the game!

Here are my Yankee PC adds from my packs. I really like the angle on the Ellsbury, great photo choice.

Here are my gold foil parallels. I don't even care about them being parallels. Look at that clear photography especially the Strasburg..

Legends are in the set as well.

I pulled a few other non-parallel inserts as well. These all fall one-per-box. I pulled a Jackie Robinson as my Legends Die Cut. You can't see it but these also have a rainbow shine to them too.

Love these! Luminous inserts are basically Finest cards and these as well are die cut. Brings me back to the 90's.

To my surprise, I also found an autograph. With this having been a fresh box and with me buying half of it, I was pretty stoked to had hit one of the autos and a black foil /49 as well. There was a change to these as well as the white background to the on-card autographs from last year has disappeared leaving for a much cleaner look.

I was once again left impressed by Stadium Club. My only dream would be that they make a football version as well. However, with Topps in their final year with the NFL license, I can only assume my dreams will be squashed. But at least I have a pretty impressive baseball version to enjoy for awhile.

This was meant to be posted the other day during Jackie Robinson Day 2012..but better late than never!!!

This is an oversized card from Upper Deck's Collectors Choice in 1998.
