Is This Really Worth $50?

My Mother-In-Law has always been great to me, when she finds something at yard sales, antique shops or at Walmart that she thinks I would enjoy, she will buy it.

She has picked me up boxes of cards, baseballs she thought were signed, stuffed animals featuring my teams, and even lunch a few times. Whoever turns down a hoagie?

Her latest buy though has me scratching my head a little as I am wondering how badly she overpaid for it.

Two weeks ago, my Mother-In-Law went to an older gentleman's yard sale and was looking around when she found a picture that was hidden behind a stack of books that stood out to her. She thought I would enjoy the picture as it featured two Yankee legends, so she asked the man how much and he said $50 as it's a rare piece. He also told her they were no longer printing anymore of this photo from the negative so it could only go up over time.

She then purchased the item and called me to make sure I was home as she found something amazing for me.

I immediately jumped to some big card purchase, so I rushed home as I was out running errands at the time. Who needs groceries with today's prices anyways!!

I was at home well before she arrived, so I waited like a dog by the door whose owner was coming home soon.

Upon her arrival, I peeked out the window and saw no box of cards and only a photo she carried in.

That's when she handed me this photo and told me the story behind it. The photo features Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth in a photo I hadn't seen before. It looks pretty cool, but for $50?. Not sure that cool.

The item was created by The Bearly Collection Of Rare Negatives.

It's not a company I had ever heard of either. Of course I don't buy a lot of photos anymore as I store all of that stuff in totes since I currently don't have the space to display it. Maybe someday.

She then wanted me to do some research on the photo and find out if she overpaid for it and I did, except I couldn't find any information or another photo like it on eBay at least.

That's where you guys come in. Let me hear your thoughts. Did she overpay? Get a deal?

Summary:Donruss comes hard hitting with shiny inserts and parallels once again. I know the logos don't exist but I am huge fan regardless especially of the inserts and this years Unleashed.

The base set consists of 262 cards which is base, Diamond Kings, Rated Rookies and 1987 Redux. 

There are also multitude of parallels to find, which many you will find in a blaster box. These include, Holo Blue, Holo Orange, Holo Pink, Holo Purple, Holo Red, Independence Day, Liberty, Red /2021, Career Stat Line /500 or less, Season Stat Line /400, One Hundred /100, On Fire /75, Presidential Collection /50, Mask Emoji /19, Artist Proof /10, Press Proof /5, Number One 1/1, and Printing Plates 1/1.

Donruss also brings back plenty of past insert themes along with new ones in 2021 along with a powerful lineup of hits with autographs from Sammy Sosa to relic cards of Babe Ruth.

My First Ruth Auto

No sorry, it's not Babe. We both are dreaming if that was the case.

Even though it's not Babe, it's still a Ruth auto and still apart of Babe's bloodline.

I recently won a contest from Babe's Long Ball Licorice who were giving autographs of Babe Ruth's granddaughter Linda Ruth Tosetti signed on Babe's cards. I thought I would throw my hat in for a unique piece for my Yankees collection along with my best shot of ever owning a piece of Babe's history.

Just a few days ago, this arrived,

 

The blue ink looks great on this card. It's also dated and very readable. Athletes take note!

 

Back of the card. It's from the Babe Ruth Collection set.

If your curious about what Babe's granddaughter does, she currently does lectures at many universities about her grandfather and has been a guest speaker at the Hall Of Fame, Babe Ruth Museum and Ted Williams Museum among many other places. I bet she is fun to listen to.

The P-Town Yanks

It's time to go back into that big box of goodies that came from P-Town of Waiting Til Next Year blog.

The next two days I will wrap up the cards I found in the box. I do have other mail days I really need to post, but P-Town's is the longest waiting one at this point. So I think it's best to call it a wrap.

Today, was the last part of his card giveaway I claimed. The Yankees. Like I said in an earlier in this series, I was afraid to find way too many double Yanks so I at first hesitated at claiming it. But, then gave in.

I am glad I did.

There were obviously some dupes in the group, but not as many as I thought. There were actually quite a few great cards I added to my Yankee PC.

Starting out with these cards. My Yankees PC strength is everything from 85-now including some of the Yankees past. These cards fall in that section but are new. Someday I hope to add more vintage to that PC especially of guys like these.

I do have this Brien Taylor. I just posted it as a constant reminder of some poor Yankee moves over the years.

I do have this card as well, but I just like the design and appeal of it. I don't mind owning a second copy especially since this one is in better shape than my previous one.

Buck looks lock and loaded to manage some players.

Some new Don's for the second biggest PC in my Yankee collection.

I fell in love with this Cletis as soon as I saw it. Really cool.

Here are a couple of standout players. Yes, pun intended.

DJ and Bernie. Actually didn't have these. Very impressive.

Metal rocks. I especially liked this design with the city backgrounds. One of my favorite 90 product lines.

Well, there you have it for the Yanks portion of my P-Town mail day. The finale we will be heading to the gridiron and it will be a worthy trip so stay tuned.

Full House

As another year kicks off, my mother in law is on the hunt for cards for me from yard sales and antique stores. Well, yard sales haven't started yet here but hopefully soon.

Antique stores are open however and that's where she found today's finds.

Here first find was this unopened pack of Topps Archives from 1991.

 

Up to this point I haven't opened it. I kind of wanna keep it sealed since there really isn't anything to chase inside, but on the other hand, I wanna open it because it's an unopened pack waiting to be busted. We will see.

The other cool find was this metal tin box of what I thought was cards but turned out to be.....

Playing cards. But, an All-Century Team playing cards. These were created back in 2000 and were something I haven't seen before.

I opened them up and pulled out some of the cards and was impressed. Vintage black and white photos with a colorful playing ball and card shapes making for a nice blend. I would buy an actual trading card set like this if there was one!

I didn't show off all 52 names in the set, but all of the big ones are in there. For now, I am just showing off a few of my favorites,

Pretty cool don't you think? I will most likely keep them in the box but I have considered paging these as a set as well. Right now I am out of pages so they would be forced in the box either way but I am one who likes to keep things as is like this. That's a big part of my hobby OCD.
