Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 12:Dwayne Signed It

October has officially been named, Cards I Got From Project Pedro Blog Month.

I am always in the search of Upper Deck's Sweet Spot autographs no matter who they are. I just love the look of these even though I do worry about how well the autographs hold up as years pass.

So when we had discussed the trade and this card popped up in his gallery of current Giants WR/KR Dwayne Harris, I without hesitation accepted it. To me, this was two wins in one.

How many of you are fans of the Sweet Spot autographs like this? Let me know and tell me your favorite one in comments!

Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 11:Setting The Edge

October has officially been named, Cards I Got From Project Pedro Blog Month.

Other than viewing Project Pedro's blog for his #CheapWaxWednesday posts, I also view them to pick out cards I may try to trade for later on.

This one I had my eye on for awhile. Having been a fan of Spx, 90's cards, 90's autographs and key rookies from that era, it only made sense that I needed to have this auto that he pulled from a box of 1999 Spx football:

The auto is a bit sloppy and doesn't fit on the card well, but it's on-card and the design is sharp. And it's Edge James, can't go wrong with that either.

Let me know your thoughts on today's card addition and let me know your best auto of the 90's you own in comments.

A Mail's Long Journey

Back in about the middle of August, @JGfan24ever on Twitter was running one of his #PWEPayItFoward fun contests where he had a drop bucket of cards he was giving away and asked that you picked out one that you would want to win.

There were many options to choose from but I settled in on was this card...

Yes, it seems wrong being a huge Giants fan choosing an Eagles card (especially during Giants show-off card week), but I love Certified first of all. The patch looks really cool (even though Jordan needs a lot of help with his auto) and just the overall appeal of the card had me.

So like @JGfan24ever always does, he mailed it right out. What we didn't expect was it never arriving.....

Until yesterday.

We had already pretty much decided that the mail carrier had lost it. Which seemed the case til the half mangled envelope arrived in my mail box to my surprise yesterday. I checked over the envelope to see if there was an indication that it had been lost and I noticed one slight mistake with my address on the envelope which must have caused it to go back to who knows where and sit there for who knows how long and almost a month later they decided to finally pass it forward.

Despite the envelopes poor appearance, the card was mint. Out of all of this, the fact it arrived and arrived safely is what really matters.

So a big thanks is owed to @JGfan24ever for the mail day. Not only does he run many contests, he is a really great guy. No joking about that. Just check him out on Twitter and I know you will agree.

So let's have a topic to go along with this mail day to,
Have you ever expected something to show up that either never did or did much later? What happened? Leave your thoughts below!

NYG Week Part 4:The Sterling Of The Trade

For months and months since the draft, I have been in dire need of a Sterling Shepard rookie autograph. He was this years second round draft pick and drawing a lot of attention and a lot of comparisons to Odell.

But, before I could even look at one, his prices went way beyond my reach. I was devastated and my only hope was to get one in a trade. Well, luckily my buddy at 90's Niche Football Card Blog came through for me.

It's not a Giants uniform or a brand I usually collect, but it's on-card, shiny and Sterling Shepard.....

Bam!

Thanks again goes out to 90's Niche Football Card Blog for this amazing trade and I look forward to our next one as I will tell you all as well, it will be a biggie.

If you haven't added his blog yet, please do so. Especially if you are a fan of 90's cards. Like I said before as well, he is a 5-Star trader and if you have any Green Bay Packers or Virginia Tech cards, send em his way.

NYG Week Part 2:The Third Round Rookie

Now it's time for Part 2 (well three if you count my first post) of my trade with 90's Niche Football Card Blog .

Today's NYG Week showcase is of third round pick from Boise State, Darian Thompson.

This guy has been making an impact on the field and in practice. I am really hoping to see him on the field a lot especially after scoring this sweet rookie ticket auto in this trade.

The one position the Giants really struggled with, well one that stood out more on defense, was the safety position. I am hopeful with Landon Collins already in place and the addition of Thompson big things will happen this season.

Part 3 is on the way tomorrow!

Redeeming Gurley:A Quick Redemption Story

The title of this post is very creative I must say.

One, I pulled this SICK 2015 Contenders Todd Gurley Rookie Ticket Auto variation redemption card a few months ago.

Two, I redeemed it.

Three, I am way behind on posting it due to some changes I made on the blog . So this is the little story you

Four, when it comes to redemptions, I will say this card arrived very quickly to me as it was within three weeks after redeeming.

By far my nicest card from Contenders after 18 years of buying it. I wished Todd would work on his signature a bit more but overall I am not complaining.

Speaking of complaining, I know a lot of that is usually about redemptions, so I gotta ask, what was your fastest redemption turnaround?

ODELL What A Mail Day Part 1

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

Were the exact words that came out of my mouth when my wife dropped a big-mail-day-early-Christmas-gift-bomb in front of me. I can finally take an Odell Beckham autographed card off my want list. Actually, I could take it off twice because she picked me up two! She got one amazing deal on them so knowing that it was on top of my Christmas list, she picked them up.

And here is card number one. The double zero jerseys always bother me, but other than that, a nice looking card.

And here is card number 2.....well...not yet. I will save that one for tomorrow.

LANDON In My Collection

Typically I am not a collector who buys defensive players autographs, but, when it comes to a high profile one for my team, I may make an exception.

This time the exception was made for Giants safety Landon Collins who has a very bright career ahead of him. I managed to land this auto for $1.29. A steal in my mind.

Topic as well with this post, what do you guys think of Panini's College inclusions in NFL products?

Breakin Wax:2015 Stadium Club Baseball 8-Hobby Pack Break

Topps Stadium Club has everything that I look for in a product. Amazing photography on base cards, reminiscent inserts and to me a lack of focus on the hits. This is the first product in awhile that brings me back.

I wanted to open more than what I did, but I also wanted to spread my funds around as much as possible so was glad to open what I did. Gone are the mini boxes of last year and it welcomes a hobby box of 16 packs. I like the change.

What did I find and what were my thoughts? Well, read on.

In every hobby pack of 2015 Topps Stadium Club baseball are 8 cards with one of them being an insert. Each pack for me was $7 but I got it at an LCS so I assume they must be about $5 normally. Once again, I don't mind supporting an LCS seeing what it's like without one where I live.

Each Stadium Club base card is simple but masterfully done. No borders. No bold names and oversized font. No colored backgrounds. Just plain...wait for it.....BASEBALL! Isn't that why we buy baseball cards?  It doesn't have to always be about the pizazz! Give us baseball. Bring us closer to the game!

Here are my Yankee PC adds from my packs. I really like the angle on the Ellsbury, great photo choice.

Here are my gold foil parallels. I don't even care about them being parallels. Look at that clear photography especially the Strasburg..

Legends are in the set as well.

I pulled a few other non-parallel inserts as well. These all fall one-per-box. I pulled a Jackie Robinson as my Legends Die Cut. You can't see it but these also have a rainbow shine to them too.

Love these! Luminous inserts are basically Finest cards and these as well are die cut. Brings me back to the 90's.

To my surprise, I also found an autograph. With this having been a fresh box and with me buying half of it, I was pretty stoked to had hit one of the autos and a black foil /49 as well. There was a change to these as well as the white background to the on-card autographs from last year has disappeared leaving for a much cleaner look.
I was once again left impressed by Stadium Club. My only dream would be that they make a football version as well. However, with Topps in their final year with the NFL license, I can only assume my dreams will be squashed. But at least I have a pretty impressive baseball version to enjoy for awhile.

Breakin Wax:2013 Sage Hit Low Series Football Hobby Box Break

Some good rookies to find at a decent price, despite a rough overall draft class, you can't go wrong with a product like Sage Hit. So I gave a box a try.

Sorry for lack of box picture on this one. But here is the breakdown none-the-less, in every box of 2013 Sage Hit Low Series football is 30 packs and 6 cards per pack. So you get a lot of cards for your bang. Each box also has 6 autographs, gold and silver parallels and other inserts to find as well.

The base card design is nice and the pictures are well done since they don't have a NCAA license anymore. Instead of photoshopping out the logos, I like the way Sage did these pictures.

The top two cards are silver parallels, you get one per pack. Bottom are gold. You get roughly a couple per box.

The Write Stuff insert you find one per box. The other two inserts including Steelers star RB Bell are found a few per box.

And here are a couple more including a harder to find gold parallel version on the right.

Now the autographs. This is the red autographed version. That just means the card is red.  I didn't hit the big players, but got some decent ones like Manti Teo

and in the golds, Eric Reid. I like the gold autograph version more with the hand numbering. Very cool and something that Sage has done for years.
Overall, you can't argue with a $30 product that gives you almost 200 cards (though most base) and 6 autographs. Big bargains and possible nice finds could be found here.

Hobby Break 'Em: 2013 Select Football

In 2013, Select was one of those products I really wanted to open but it was too expensive for me and slipped through the cracks. Fast forward a year, the price dropped leaving it open for me to finally open a box.

Let's see how I did:

I liked the base cards. They are chromed and are thicker chromed like Prizm. This product overall actually reminded me of Prizm.

Rookies from my box. I got Manuel so I was happy. I still consider him the best QB of that draft class.

Inserts. Gotta say I wasn't a huge fan of their design. Needed more color.

Refractors/Prizms...whatever you consider these, they are still really cool parallels. Got Gronk and Tomlinson so not bad pulls.

I really liked this design with the red on the chrome. I would have loved to have seen a Prizm refractor of one of these. Bet that looks outstanding.

Now onto my hits. I was a bit disappointed in the players I got to say the least

The BIG hit of the box.....
Overall, I liked the design of the product. However, I didn't feel I got very good value in this break at all. Is it something I may try again, probably not, but you never know. At least I got it out of my system and that's all really that matters.

REVIEW: 2014 Elite Football

Elite is one of my early favorites in the football card season. I look forward to its August release every year and this year was no different with this highly touted rookie class. This years Elite returns with some new favorites and old classics as well, what were my pulls and thoughts on this years product, well, only one way to find out, read on!

Before I start my review, here are many places you can find Panini America: Their official site, blog, Twitter, and Facebook. If you don't follow them you should! They interact with you on Twitter, have contests on their blog and Facebook and the site is also fun to visit!

Now onto the review:

    • 20 Packs Per Box, 5 Cards Per Pack
    • Four Autograph or Memorabilia Card
    • Around $100 per box
Each box of 2014 Elite Football should land you three Rookie Cards numbered to 999 or less, one Turn of the Century insert, one Passing the Torch Silver insert and six additional inserts. Not to mention, one Clarity plexiglass insert per box as well.

    • 20 Packs Per Box, 5 Cards Per Pack

    • - See more at: http://www.dacardworld.com/sports-cards/2014-panini-elite-football-hobby-box#sthash.rIpKSdxT.dpufPRICE: You can find most boxes around $60

BASE CARDS: Panini changed the look of the Elite base cards this year just slightly. Instead of the usual plain silver foil background, they added the Elite E symbol watermarked into it. I think this improves the appearance of the base cards. Same was done to the rookie cards that are numbered from 999 down depending on the player. You should find three of the numbered rookie cards in every box.

INSERTS:I like the different types and variety of inserts offered in Elite and in the box I opened. You have the return of Elite Series with a great new design, another nice looking insert in Face2Face which matches up rivals, one on offense and one on defense, from their own divisions appearing to clash against each other on the field. You have an insert printed on Acetate in Debut Numbers. Who doesn't like acetate? Then you bring on a unique offering like Profiles printed with a small-hole punch style cutting out the word Profile and the profile of the player. Finally, an insert printed on plexiglass in Clarity. Those bad boys are SUPER THICK and really cool.

Not pictured, for some reason the blog deleted them, is the Turn Of The Century parallel and the Passing The Torch inserts I pulled. Turn Of The Century is one of a few parallels you can find in Elite. Others are die-cut parallels such as Aspirations and Status that also have different colored versions of them. Not to mention there are autographs this way too.

Here is an example I borrowed from Panini's blog to show you what the Turn Of The Century (I pulled Eddie Lacy  numbered to 199) and Passing The Torch (I pulled Randy Moss/Cordarrelle Patterson) inserts look like:

Panini America 2014 Elite Football QC (15)  Panini America 2014 Elite Football QC (27) Panini America 2014 Elite Football QC (28)

I can honestly say there wasn't one insert pulled in this box that I didn't find worth collecting. Some would make great sets.

AUTOGRAPHED CARDS:I pulled two autographs, both rookies and every box guarantees one rookie auto per..

One auto is a sticker and one is on-card. But both are top picks, including Ebron who could be a big part of the Lions offense this year. I have always been a fan of acetate autographs, however, I would have rather seen it on-card instead of the base auto. I would have switched the sticker and on-card here.

Elite also has other autographed offerings such as the great Passing The Torch autos that is double-sided matching up players with equal talents and Rookie Inscriptions which is another acetate auto offering of the 2014 rookie class.

MEMORABILIA CARDS: Got my first Panini Rewards which I placed under memorabilia since most of the options on these "redemption" cards are for them. Mine is also one of the lower end points.

I do like the design and swatch size of the memorabilia card I did land in Gridiron Kings.

Some other memorabilia offerings in Elite are New Breed, Sophomore Swatches and the can be rare Down And Distance.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: There are some fun offerings in Elite. I am a little concerned in terms of return value on Elite as I have seen some rough breaks and for $100 you hope for a decent return. I know my wasn't the best, but in this hobby it is all about risk.

There are some great things to be pulled in Elite and the inserts are quite impressive in person. The parallels are also something that are very popular among collectors. So if you don't have a problem with taking a tiny risk, I say give Elite a try.
Each Box contains Four Autographs or Memorabilia Cards, Three Rookies Card #'d to 999 or less, One Turn of the Century, One Passing the Torch Silver, One Clarity (Plexi-Glass Card), and Six additional inserts! - See more at: http://www.dacardworld.com/sports-cards/2014-panini-elite-football-hobby-box#sthash.WcrZTaV2.dpuf
