Breakin Wax:2013 Sage Hit Low Series Football Hobby Box Break

Some good rookies to find at a decent price, despite a rough overall draft class, you can't go wrong with a product like Sage Hit. So I gave a box a try.

Sorry for lack of box picture on this one. But here is the breakdown none-the-less, in every box of 2013 Sage Hit Low Series football is 30 packs and 6 cards per pack. So you get a lot of cards for your bang. Each box also has 6 autographs, gold and silver parallels and other inserts to find as well.

The base card design is nice and the pictures are well done since they don't have a NCAA license anymore. Instead of photoshopping out the logos, I like the way Sage did these pictures.

The top two cards are silver parallels, you get one per pack. Bottom are gold. You get roughly a couple per box.

The Write Stuff insert you find one per box. The other two inserts including Steelers star RB Bell are found a few per box.

And here are a couple more including a harder to find gold parallel version on the right.

Now the autographs. This is the red autographed version. That just means the card is red.  I didn't hit the big players, but got some decent ones like Manti Teo

and in the golds, Eric Reid. I like the gold autograph version more with the hand numbering. Very cool and something that Sage has done for years.

Overall, you can't argue with a $30 product that gives you almost 200 cards (though most base) and 6 autographs. Big bargains and possible nice finds could be found here.

Review: Upper Deck Football 2013

We did a review earlier this year for a rack pack break of Upper Deck Football. This time we kick it into extra gear and review a hobby box.

This is a product I used to buy yearly when it was NFL licensed. You couldn't keep me away. Its a little bit of a tougher buy now with just an NCAA license. But there are a ton of die hard college football fans who eat up these types of products. And they should. Upper Deck has never changed. Just the licenses. Still quality in here.

What was my thoughts on this particular break though...read on!

BASE CARDS:Upper Deck has always done a great job with their base cards. Little border, nice photography. I have always appreciated what they brought to a set. They display action photography like no other.

The vets in this set is small in only 50. Its the usual group of players Upper Deck is allowed to use in their sets since they have had the NCAA license. There are a ton of rookies however and short prints for both Hobby and Retail to find. We landed two Sp's in our hobby box.

One of the disappointing parts was the lack of big name rookies we found in this break. No Lacy, No Geno, best rookie we got was EJ Manuel. Rest were ones we hadn't heard much of. This may not be a bad thing as there are always those unknown rookies who rise, but a few more starts mixed in would have been nice.

INSERTS: The inserts in this product brought me back a little. First off you get the following in a box:

- College Football Heroes - Joe Namath (1:10)

The Football Heroes and Sp football inserts brought me back to my early collecting days. They stuck to the same classic design which was great to see. The Ultimate Collection insert looks great as well. So in terms of design on the inserts here, good job.

AUTOGRAPHS: Three autographs in every box. Two base autos of people we never heard of and then a sweet /50 Lettermen auto of Landry Jones. I know and I have said this before that a lot of people don't care for the Lettermen autos and would rather have the other autographs (though Upper Deck photography with an autograph isn't a bad thing), not me. These Letterman look outstanding. I even like how the card is displayed. The player off to the left. The word rookie and Lettermen was done with the right text font and size. The player name bold at the bottom. Just awesome.

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS: N/A

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Well, great photography. Memory quality inserts. One nice looking auto. Upper Deck football feels like its still missing something other than an NFL license. I wished I had gotten better rookie cards. And maybe another named auto. I liked what Upper Deck did just didn't feel like I got the complete value of the box here. Maybe other breaks are better. I haven't seen a lot of breaks of this product to judge it as a whole. It does have hit potential, you just have to have the right box I think.

Review: Sage Hit Football Low Series Blaster 2013

Every year I got to get my hands onto some cards of the new crop of NFL rookies. This is always my starting point.

Box Break Down:

• 14 Packs Per Box, 7 Card Per Pack
• Two Autographs

BASE CARDS: Last year I complained about the design of these. Not so much this year. Sage is doing the best they can without licensing on the helmets. I do wish they did more photos without any helmets then it wouldn't bother me as much. Its really hard to see a product with helmet decal removal but most of these photos are well done without team helmets which excites me and tells me to give Sage two thumbs up. The Spotlight subset card is very nicely done and I think a lot of people will enjoy this design. I also like to use these base cards to get rookie autos TTM (Through The Mail) on. They are low to none on the gloss and are great to be signed on.

INSERTS: N/A (Hobby Only)

 

AUTOGRAPHS: The product states 2 autos per box and thats what we got. I really dig the design on these. The autographs are enclosed with a gold foil and the sticker or whatever they seem to be signed on jumps off the card at you. Alex Okafor's auto is awesome. Very good job here by Sage in terms of design. I like the landscape layout as a switch up of getting the autographs done portrait style

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS:N/A

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Not a bad base card design. A ton of base in a box so you really get to load up on the new rookies. My only negative would be having the two autographs packed separately in the box. Though I love collecting rookie cards, opening the packs for just base cards takes away a little bit of the excitement when you already know what your autographs are. I wished the autos were inserted into the packs. Other than that, with a good amount of cards and two autographs its $20 well spent. I would also assume that a hobby box might also be a decent rout to go as well.
