Mail Day Saturday: Project Pedro Blog Trade PT 1

As I have stated a few times this year so far, I am a tad behind on posting some cool stuff I have picked up in a variety of trades and mail days. But, I am really excited for the direction of this blog with the current segment setups I started at the beginning of the year, which only allows me one day a week to post a mail day. So I will probably be behind for awhile as I have a few trade posts to put up along with some more Grady M reader mail day posts. Not to mention, the fun stuff I picked up myself.

So I decided today I will take a break from the Grady M reader mail day posts and get my latest trade with Project Pedro blog posted. This trade will be in two parts as you guys have read in the past that he and I pull off some pretty epic trades that I can't just show off in one post.

Today, I am focusing on the biggest lot of cards from the trade and will show off the Top 5 cards I acquired next week.

Up first,  new group of Eli's for the Giants PC. The Unparalleled is pretty cool.

Tiki, Sinorice swatch, Giffords and Simms grouping.

A couple of swingin' new Griffey adds.

Carmen Electra shiny card that's numbered. Pretty....

And some Knicks. Yup, I went against my norm and traded for some NY Knicks just because he was looking to unload some basketball and I just felt like adding a few cards.

I am always a fan of these. Gotta love basketball relics.

Letterman! Not sure if these will help me spell out Sport Card Collectors, but I am always in the market for these no matter what. Henderson not the worst addition either.

I thought this was really cool. It's Spx, Knicks and Patrick Ewing Jr. Just too bad he didn't fill his father's shoes and instead was a flop.Knowing pops was one of my favorite All-Time Knicks, I thought this was a nice addition just to say I have one. Ewing Jr is currently Georgetown's director of basketball operations.

And speaking of pops.....

A solid start of showings in this mail day. There were other cards included to but I just focused it onto a few so I wouldn't have to make this longer than a two-series post.

LETTERING Out Sport Card Collectors

For years I have been wanting to spell out Sport Card Collectors in Letterman form to use as a heading to this blog.

This past week, I finally had the chance to sit down and sort out my letters to see where I stand. I am not off to a bad start, but still have a long ways to go.

 

Missing the following letters of either autographed or non-auto letters.

3 C, 2 R, 2 O,L, T, S

Hopefully I can fill these needs at some point and hit my goal. I think it would look really cool.

AWESOME Trade With Jaybarkerfan's Blog

A few months ago I kept hearing buzz around Jaybarkerfan's blog when reading other blogs, so I thought I would go check it out. So glad that I did!

Recently he put up a post that was loaded with trade goodies. I sadly didn't get there quick enough for a few other things I wanted as it was first claim, first get, but I did get to claim two I really wanted. When the mail day arrived, I also noticed many other goodies included as well.

Up first, I will show the two that I got to claim.

First is this 90's relic from Collectors Edge of Trajan Langdon. I guy I used to watch being a Duke fan.

Up next was a 2009 UD Icons Letterman of Peggy Fleming. First off, I am a huge fan of Letterman and I like unique "celeb" memorabilia. If you don't know if Fleming is, she is a figure skater and an Olympic winner one at that. I wished I could get the whole name spelled out as that is on my hobby wish list to complete a nameplate,but I couldn't find any others on eBay.

After what was already some great pickups that I traded for, he then threw in a bunch of amazing extras!

Up first is a card for my Giants PC and a numbered insert for my baseball insert PC

Then to add to my celeb PC, he sent this /10 parallel of Scott Schwartz, who is best known for sticking his tongue to a pole in the Christmas Story. Pretty cool!

Then he even covered my Rueben Randle PC with this beautiful Rueben Randle red refractor!!! I definitely don't have this bad boy and it's numbered to 75!

Up next he threw in a couple more celeb relics for my PC. I thought the Rider Relic was awesome and also reminds me why I miss Press Pass and their outside of the box creative thinking. I didn't have one of the Rider Relics but have always wanted one.

And finally, added another relic to my David Wilson collection. Once again, one I didn't have.

A huge thanks is in order for Jaybarkerfan for this trade. I am blown away and loved all of it. Thanks goes out to you for the original trade and the extras. I also hope you enjoyed what I sent the first time and what I will be mailing soon for the second trade.

Review: Upper Deck Football 2013

We did a review earlier this year for a rack pack break of Upper Deck Football. This time we kick it into extra gear and review a hobby box.

This is a product I used to buy yearly when it was NFL licensed. You couldn't keep me away. Its a little bit of a tougher buy now with just an NCAA license. But there are a ton of die hard college football fans who eat up these types of products. And they should. Upper Deck has never changed. Just the licenses. Still quality in here.

What was my thoughts on this particular break though...read on!

BASE CARDS:Upper Deck has always done a great job with their base cards. Little border, nice photography. I have always appreciated what they brought to a set. They display action photography like no other.

The vets in this set is small in only 50. Its the usual group of players Upper Deck is allowed to use in their sets since they have had the NCAA license. There are a ton of rookies however and short prints for both Hobby and Retail to find. We landed two Sp's in our hobby box.

One of the disappointing parts was the lack of big name rookies we found in this break. No Lacy, No Geno, best rookie we got was EJ Manuel. Rest were ones we hadn't heard much of. This may not be a bad thing as there are always those unknown rookies who rise, but a few more starts mixed in would have been nice.

INSERTS: The inserts in this product brought me back a little. First off you get the following in a box:

- College Football Heroes - Joe Namath (1:10)

The Football Heroes and Sp football inserts brought me back to my early collecting days. They stuck to the same classic design which was great to see. The Ultimate Collection insert looks great as well. So in terms of design on the inserts here, good job.

AUTOGRAPHS: Three autographs in every box. Two base autos of people we never heard of and then a sweet /50 Lettermen auto of Landry Jones. I know and I have said this before that a lot of people don't care for the Lettermen autos and would rather have the other autographs (though Upper Deck photography with an autograph isn't a bad thing), not me. These Letterman look outstanding. I even like how the card is displayed. The player off to the left. The word rookie and Lettermen was done with the right text font and size. The player name bold at the bottom. Just awesome.

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS: N/A

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Well, great photography. Memory quality inserts. One nice looking auto. Upper Deck football feels like its still missing something other than an NFL license. I wished I had gotten better rookie cards. And maybe another named auto. I liked what Upper Deck did just didn't feel like I got the complete value of the box here. Maybe other breaks are better. I haven't seen a lot of breaks of this product to judge it as a whole. It does have hit potential, you just have to have the right box I think.
