CARDBOARD REVIEW:2020 Panini XR Football

XR has been a few year running product that I have liked. It's not one of my top favorites produced by Panini but it's one I don't mind seeing yearly.

And for the third year in a row I was able to rip open a box.

How did this box break go? Only one way to see, keep on reading.

Every box of 2020 Panini XR football comes with 2 packs of 7 cards. So you get 14 cards per box. Three of those cards are hits so you are left with 11 cards of inserts, base and parallels. Boxes are running close to $300.

BASE:

The base design is very similar to years past.
There are 200 cards in the base set made up of veterans and of course

Rookies.

The base set is split 50/50 between the two with 100 rookies and 100 veterans.

PARALLELS:

You can find the following parallels in XR, Red /249, Blue /199, Orange /99, White /75, Teal /49, Purple /25, Gold /10, Green /5, Black 1/1, and Printing Plates 1/1.

White /75

Orange /249

.
Blue /199. Really solid find!

INSERTS:

Overall there are 4 insert lines to find. I only found one in my box break which I would guess on average that's what you would find as well.

Inserts have the following parallels, Red #/149, Blue #/99, Orange #/49, White #/25, Gold #/10, Green #/5, Black 1/1, Printing Plates 1/1.

Xtreme Rookie red parallel /149 of  Ke'Shawn Vaughn

HITS:
Rookie XL Threads of Patch gold /10

XR Rookie auto of Dalton Keene

Triple Swatch Autograph of Antonio Gibson who had a solid season but a lame auto. These are the end part of the base set and can come with some pretty sweet memorabilia parallels such as Glove 1/1, Hat Seam 1/1, Jacket 1/1, Laundry Tag 1/1, Laundry Tag NFL Shield 1/1, Laundry Tag NFLPA 1/1, Laundry Tag Nike Swoosh 1/1, NFL Shield FB 1/1, Football 1/1, Shoe 1/1, Sock 1/1, Team Logo 1/1.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Price point is a little crazy but there are some really nice hits to be found in here. I may look up for fun to see what the memorabilia parallels look like. I bet they are pretty stunning.

REVIEW:2018 Panini Absolute Memorabilia Football

Absolute Memorabilia football has been one of my favorites for years and for once for me anyways, it's all about the memorabilia.

You can't find many products that use different forms of relics like this product does. Patches, Gloves, Football, logo shields, you name it, this stuff has it.

How did my break go of it? Well, let's check it out shall we?

In every box of 2018 Panini Absolute Memorabilia football is 3 packs with 5 cards per pack. Boxes will have three autographs and two memorabilia cards per box and boxes are currently running roughly $140 per box.

A hobby box should break like this,
  • 1 Rookie Premiere Material Auto and 2 Additional Autographs
  • 2 Memorabilia Cards
  • 1 Insert
  • 2 Parallels
  • 6 Base Cards and 1 Rookie Card
The base set looks like inserts from Prestige a few years ago. Player in the front and a full foil background. The team name is on the side and player name off in the left hand corner. Players are in their new uniforms as well.

The base set is 150 cards deep. There are 100 veterans

And 50 rookies. Most of these rookies are the lesser name ones. The key rookies in the product finish up the next part of the set with the RPS'  which there are 39 of. We will check these out later on.

Parallels are in here too! Spectrum is there name, adding some shine is their game. This Tom Brady is a red spectrum /100.

This Ryan Izzo is a green /25. The rookie symbol in the background tells us that.

Other parallels to find include, Blue, Gold, Orange #/65,Purple #/5, and Printing Plates 1/1.

One insert per pack landed me this Covering Ground of Kareem Hunt. Finally! An insert that reminds me of one from the 90's!

Other inserts, that all look great, to find are,
  • 1-2 Punch Set
  • Introductions Set (I so want the Saquon from this set!!!)
  • Late Game Heroics
  • Revolutionaries
Memorabilia cards as I said take center-stage here. Even though there are some basic ones to find as well like this Heroes Keenan Allen.

But then you can find some wicked cool ones like this Tools Of The Trade Kenyan Drake. Just look at it!!

The autographs can come impressive with the memorabilia or can be found all on their own.

Signature Standouts

Iconic Ink which has a checklist of interesting lesser known players that don't sign much and others who are literally iconic like Tom Brady. I spy Pepper Johnson and Ottis Anderson I want on that checklist. Even though pulling Tom Brady, Steve Young, Marshall Faulk and other guys on my autograph want list would have been awesome as well. But, I got Bert Jones. Not even sure who he is but he has a nice signature.

My final pull was a decent one with my RPS in Derrius Guice. If he hadn't gotten hurt, who knows, he could have been rookie of the year.

There are tons of other great hits that I didn't find in my box but you could!!
  • Rookie Premiere Material Autos Quad
  • Rookie Premiere Material Autos Five
  • Boss Hoggs Autographs
  • Franchise Honors Autographs
  • Iconic Ink Duals
  • Iconic Ink Trios
  • Iconic Ink Quads
  • Rookie Force Signatures
  • Signature Standouts
  • Tools of the Trade Double Auto Relics
  • Tools of the Trade Triple Auto Relics
  • Absolute Rookie Prime Jerseys
  • Canton Absolutes Relics
  • Cleat Combos Relics
  • Head to Toe Relics
  • Jumbo Cleats
  • Jumbo NFL Shields
  • Newcomers Relics
  • Panoramic Prime
  • Panoramic Patches
  • Rookie Dual Memorabilia
  • Rookie Force Relics
OVERALL: My break wasn't too bad but still not the best. But, it left me wanting more for some reason. It's gotta be the potential hits I could have pulled that has me wanting more. I mean other than that amazing Drake card that may have told me I wanted more as well.

There are tons of great hits waiting to be found in here. If you can't afford a hobby box, at least go get yourself in on a box break. You may find yourself addicted or landing a huge hit.

Please take a minute out to thank Tracy Hackler and Panini America for providing this box to review. By providing this box to review, this insures some of the cards above will end up in your hands when I run my NFL promo coming up soon! Review: Upper Deck Football 2013

We did a review earlier this year for a rack pack break of Upper Deck Football. This time we kick it into extra gear and review a hobby box.

This is a product I used to buy yearly when it was NFL licensed. You couldn't keep me away. Its a little bit of a tougher buy now with just an NCAA license. But there are a ton of die hard college football fans who eat up these types of products. And they should. Upper Deck has never changed. Just the licenses. Still quality in here.

What was my thoughts on this particular break though...read on!

Box Break Down:
  • 20 Packs Per Box, 6 Cards Per Pack
  • (3) Autographs Per Box!
  • (2) Ultimate Collection RC's # to 599 Per Box!
  • Find College Mascot Manufactured Patch Cards!
  • Find Namath and Sanders College Football Heroes!
  • $90 Per Box

BASE CARDS:Upper Deck has always done a great job with their base cards. Little border, nice photography. I have always appreciated what they brought to a set. They display action photography like no other.

The vets in this set is small in only 50. Its the usual group of players Upper Deck is allowed to use in their sets since they have had the NCAA license. There are a ton of rookies however and short prints for both Hobby and Retail to find. We landed two Sp's in our hobby box.

One of the disappointing parts was the lack of big name rookies we found in this break. No Lacy, No Geno, best rookie we got was EJ Manuel. Rest were ones we hadn't heard much of. This may not be a bad thing as there are always those unknown rookies who rise, but a few more starts mixed in would have been nice.

Regular Cards-50
Star Rookies Cards-100
Star Rookies SP Cards -60
Star Rookies Rare Cards- 40

INSERTS: The inserts in this product brought me back a little. First off you get the following in a box:

2 Ultimate Collection Rookies
- Regular Card Parallel -none found
- Star Rookies Parallel- none found
- 1995 SP Football (1:6)
- 1995 SP Prospects (1:12)
- College Football Heroes - Joe Namath (1:10)
- College Football Heroes - Barry Sanders (1:10)

The Football Heroes and Sp football inserts brought me back to my early collecting days. They stuck to the same classic design which was great to see. The Ultimate Collection insert looks great as well. So in terms of design on the inserts here, good job.

AUTOGRAPHS: Three autographs in every box. Two base autos of people we never heard of and then a sweet /50 Lettermen auto of Landry Jones. I know and I have said this before that a lot of people don't care for the Lettermen autos and would rather have the other autographs (though Upper Deck photography with an autograph isn't a bad thing), not me. These Letterman look outstanding. I even like how the card is displayed. The player off to the left. The word rookie and Lettermen was done with the right text font and size. The player name bold at the bottom. Just awesome.

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS: N/A

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Well, great photography. Memory quality inserts. One nice looking auto. Upper Deck football feels like its still missing something other than an NFL license. I wished I had gotten better rookie cards. And maybe another named auto. I liked what Upper Deck did just didn't feel like I got the complete value of the box here. Maybe other breaks are better. I haven't seen a lot of breaks of this product to judge it as a whole. It does have hit potential, you just have to have the right box I think.
