More Ginter Needs Arrive

Even though a lot of my trades have cut way back this year, mostly due to funding because of new job circumstances, there has been one consistent trader I have had and have posted plenty from. That trader, blog reader, Oren.

We have traded so much this year that I feel we have been trading forever, but it really hasn't been that long.

But, his returns to my blind trade sends are always spot on.

Check out this graded Paul Perkins relic card. This is the first, yes FIRST, graded relic card in my Giants collection.

Next, a stack of Star Wars cards.

And then, I get hit with Ginter. I got hit with so much Allen Ginter I couldn't even post it all, but I did post a few key ones.

Carl Weathers who played Creed in the Rocky movies. This goes great with my Balboa and Hulk ones he already sent from the movie.

I had a 1st Tiger Mask mini, but not base.

Murray Goldberg people!! I don't mind adding more and more of these, still want the autograph and relic card of him as well.

Bobby Moynihan has been on SNL, movies, TV and as a voice actor as well.

FINALLY! one of the cards I wanted most from Ginter, the rookie card of Marc Anthony! If you have more of this card, I NEED TO KNOW ;)

Parks and Rec...I still need to check out that show that features Mr.Scwartz

My second Impractical Jokers card of the four. I now have Murray and Q. Still need to chase down Sal and Joe. I love that show.

Another Cardpocalypse Hits My Mail Box

For awhile now, @CardpocalypseNC and myself have been working on a slow moving but progressing trade. It originally all started with a Phillip Lindsay rookie card I had pulled for a card I really wanted, but then turned into much more.

Sometimes trades are like my homemade pizza dough, they start out as yeast, then turn out to be double the size of the bowl I put it in. It's amazing how fast it can rise sometimes. I am talking both the trade and the pizza dough.

A lot of this mail day I won't reveal until a later date, but for now I will be posting teases for those and the other cards I was able to acquire.

My man Junior! Great way to kick off 2019 by adding 40 new ones. What they are..well you will have to wait.

 

Set needs!!! This was tremendous that @CardpocalypseNC was able to chase down some of my 90's set needs and find that he had a lot of help for me.

 

Speaking of set needs, here is my final piece for my 1996 Topps Broadway Review set! Boom! Two sets down already and we are only in February. However, the next ones won't be as easy.

 

Saquon! Can't wait til he hits the field next year.

1971 Topps Game Insert of Fran Tarketon. Beautiful card! This was a surprise from Tim I didn't know was coming.

 

Eugene Porter Walking Dead relic for my non sport PC.

 

Still trying to decide what this relic is from, assuming it's a glove, but all I do know is that it's awesome. Great looking card with the bold NY Giants colors and add in the unique relic with the number three showing, big time bonus.

 

And the card that started the trade is the last one I showed. For awhile now I have been wanting to add a Kevin Hart autograph to my non sport PC and now I have one! Boom! Laura Dern being on it is just a bonus. So many great non sport adds recently to that PC and it's all been unplanned up to this point.

A big thanks goes out to @CardpocalypseNC for a great trade and I know both of us are already working hard on getting stuff ready for the next one. I look forward to it.

I Have A Clear Shot At This Set!

So I sat by my desktop staring at eBay trying to figure out how I would best use my remaining gift card hoping that some inspiration would hit. I checked out pretty much everything Looked at every deal, tried to find the best combo card price/shipping. I wasn't simply going to let this gift card go to complete waste.

At the same time, I was compiling my Hobby Resolutions for the blog and realized, "hey, don't I want to finally finish up some of those 90's sets I was building?" The answer was yes and I narrowed the list down to four insert sets I wanted to complete first.

Along with two parallel sets I wanted to do as well with 1995 Summit Ground Zero football and 1995 Score Red Siege football.

These are my goals for the year. This is what I am attacking. Will it take a miracle? Yes. Will it take lots of help from fellow collectors? Yes. So here's my early plea for my trade partners to keep an eye out for these six items when you go to shows, etc.

Today, however, I am showing off how far I have come in my 1995 Pinnacle Clear Shots chase. I found a deal where the cards were cheap and combined free shipping.

1995 Pinnacle Clear Shots fell 1:60 packs and is a 10 card set. My start to this set came when I was able to land one in a pack of 1995 Pinnacle last year and it brought me back to how beautiful these cards are. Acetate with a holographic foil off to the side. They don't make them like this anymore.

 

Kijana Carter is card number 9 in the set. He was one of two rookies featured in this set as there was high expectations for the running back. It's just too bad they weren't lived up to.

 

Steve Young is card number 3 in the set and is one of my favorite left handed QB's besides the top favorite Mark Brunell.

 

Drew Bledsoe is card #4 in the set. I knew so many Patriot fans. It was nice when they didn't play so well alongside the Giants. Now it's the least amount of fun. I blame this man. He created Tom Brady by getting hurt. Thanks Drew.

Steve McNair is card number 10 in the set and is the other big rookie in the set. I was disappointed when I got this card as the "clear" portion of the card appeared to had been owned by a smoker as it was all yellow. I had already left good feedback on the card, I don't leave negative very often unless it's really hazardous, but decided to contact the seller anyways. Being a great seller, they found a better conditioned copy and put it in the mail for me and told me to keep this rough one. So glad they were able to help because it would have nagged me to no end had I completed this with a damaged card.

 

With these four additions and one more on the way, I am currently only needing card numbers 2 (Dan Marino) and 8 (Troy Aikman) from completing the set.

I think I am starting my Hobby Resolution off with a bang! Tomorrow I will feature the other set I made great progress on.

Nuttin But The Hits:Fairfield Football Card Re-Pack Box (HIT And Figure Included)

Last week I had to go pick up a few things at Rite Aid pharmacy and thought I would check out their card section. It's not usually the biggest section in the world, usually ten products mostly made up of Magic and Pokemon, but at the bottom of the section I noticed one lone pack/box of the Fairfield Football product I have seen so many people rave about. They had the baseball version as well but the baseball had a bad cover card and didn't include a figure like the football one. Both were the same price as well for $4.99 so I took the one that sounded better.

When I got home home I actually forgot about tucking this away and just remembered to open it today.

I was pleasantly surprised after busting it open.

My figure package was this TeenyMates which came with 2 football figures. One was the Texans, the other was the Lions. I really want the Giants one now.

Here was the unopened pack. Sigh. I have like 15 of these already unopened. I will save it for a rainy day. My expectation was like a  pack of 1992 Upper Deck or Pro Set or something.

 

I didn't take a picture of all of the cards, but I did take ones of the cards I could use the most in my PC.

Rookie of Daniel Franks. I know this isn't a super star, but I like my rookies.

Gold Topps parallel.

Two Hall Of Famers. I was always a fan of both even though Moss was a Patriot at one point.

Some other rookies. No big names here. I think for me the most recognizable is Pritchett from Detroit who I think ended up having a pretty decent career.

Hmmm nice insert and is apart of My Sets Of My Childhood but sadly I have it. But, I will hoard it none-the-less.

Nice group of guys here including Dak and a Lee Evans rookie.

Remember when these guys in the 2008 class were supposed to be awesome...well....McFadden was great when healthy and Long was okay.

Only my second Watson rookie card. Even though I don't consider Leaf a true rookie card. I feel that way with all unlicensed cards.

Dorsett was the nice cover card for me. He could surprise us all with Tom Brady throwing his way especially since the Pats lack WR help.

A Hit! Not the best or a guy I even know, but 1:4 boxes comes with one.

So overall, I got a hit, refractor, an unopened pack, a two pack of mini figures, some rookies and other cards from the 90's to bring back those memories for $4.99. I was definitely impressed and was left wanting more.

This product isn't obviously for everyone. Especially those only seeking the big hits but it does it's justice for those of us who simply enjoy the simple hobby pleasures.

It Starts With One

All it starts with is one. One follow, one card, one conversation.

That one moment can turn into much more and it did with @jklongwith and myself.

We went from talking about an Aaron Judge card to trading about it to expanding the trade into more. It's amazing how this hobby can function and now that one moment has added one more trader to my circle.

Included in my trade package along with the Aaron Judge was some 90's cards.

This is a subset from 1997 Upper Deck. One of the most fun sets I built.

 

I really like this Pinnacle Performers Scot Rolen.

 

Number Crunchers. I believe Seasons Best from 1997 Topps.

 

Check out this Brady Anderson. I don't have anything like this so I always enjoy a new look 90's card to the PC. And it's Metal, one of the great products of all time.

 

Travis Lee. I felt like I always pulled this guy back in the 90's but not this card from Fleer Brilliants. Everyone had Travis Lee hype...up until he played.

 

And here was the Judge card that started it all. I didn't bust any Stadium Club this year so am interested in any Judge in it. I do have the Special Forces, the base card and Never Compromise. Outside of that, I could use others.

 

And as he was about to mail, he messaged me to ask if I was interested in ONE more card. See a theme here? When he said it was a Kyle Lauletta autograph, how could I say no? Possible Giants future starter at QB. No way I am skipping out on that. So we made one more quick trade and mailed.

 

 

Pretty solid mail day for me covering all my areas of collecting. A big thanks goes out to Jason for the mail day and our FIRST trade together.

 

Yes, I won't say ONE more thing about ONE. Oooops. I did.

 

And I will again, let me know in comments of trades you have been involved in that started out with one card that boomed into so much more.

Eye Of The Beholder

Awhile back Trevor over at Bump and Run Football Card Blog and I pulled off a trade after he saw a pull that caught his eye from my 2018 Leaf Draft football break.

So I sent his card, well cards off, and in return he sent some that caught my eye.

I will never complain about Topps Chrome adds especially of Shockey. I hope Evan Engram turns out to be as talented as he was. Guy was a game changer. Tiki was also a game changer and the Giants added a possible one in this years draft as well.

I always felt Ike never showed his full potential in blue. I felt he always had more to show but with poor QB play in his time with the Giants-besides the good years with Kerry Collins-he may have had to keep it bottled up. Too bad. I had some good rookies of him including now this one. Someday I need to add an autograph of his.

Charles "Show Me The Way" new adds. This guy was a beast of a full back. I miss card companies adding in the other guys on the teams. That's why products like Contenders I like. They have some coaches and cover some of these non star guys but it's not like it used to be. Is anything in this hobby?

I also wanted to point out the Ultra Way card here. Not only does it have a great design and photography, it is also a Sensational 60 parallel. I hadn't ever heard of that parallel set in these. I guess they fell one-per-retail pack back in the day. It's always fun to have something new and learn something new.

1996 Fleer Ultra Sensations didn't live up to it's name, but I still like to add cards I need from it.

This mail day wasn't all NY blue however as Trevor knows I love my late 90's cards. Especially the inserts.

Two rookies including Yatil Green who seemed to always land my way back then. I just love the film over the Finest cards. Miss that with today's especially since they get scratched surfaces so easy sometimes.

Some hate 1995 Fleer, but some like me love it. This was a simple but nice insert. I am currently chasing the set. I do have the Moore, but I don't mind having another.

Enis was supposed to help the Bear fans forget about the Salaam drafting, but he didn't either. Another fail on their drafting. Unlike the Bears, I don't mind adding guys like this to my 90's insert PC.

Fleer Focus was a solid product all around in the late, late 90's. They had decent looking base, but even better inserts. This one sparkles. Literally! At least the glitter stays on the card and not in my hair, hands, face and everywhere else glitter goes.

Another one of those Sensational 60 parallels. This time Elvis is in the building!

Poor Bengals. I know their fans complain about Andy Dalton and how he can't win in the playoffs, but I think they don't remember their 90's roots with guys like Jeff Blake, Scott Klinger and Akili Smith and many others. At least you win and make the playoffs now. Akili may have never panned out, but Upper Deck's HoloGrFx did at least for me. Lots of shiny stuff in that product.

Speaking of that Upper Deck product and a team that drafts QB's that don't pan out, here are the Browns with Tim Couch. Poor Browns. I even question their Mayfield pick this year even though he does have a lot of pieces around him now to help him be successful. I think if he can keep his head focused on football and not be a jerk, he should do okay. Maybe they can finally forget about drafts like this one.

The final card in my package, well it's that Shockey guy. This time in relic form. I don't have much for Jeremy when it comes to hits, so I don't at all mind adding more. I hope to add an autograph of his someday.

 

Another solid trade between Trevor and I and I am looking forward to the next.

Some of these cards above I know most wouldn't blink an eye at that I added, but in my opinion, this hobbies theme can be "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". What one person finds ugly, another finds beautiful.
