Cardboard Review:2022 Topps Gallery Baseball

Baseball season continues on and so doesn't the baseball releases.

Today, we take a look at a 90's favorite from yours truly but maybe not so much in the modern age.

Unlike the 90's version, Topps Gallery can only be found at Walmart or at Topps online. So no hobby shop visits to find this stuff.

Each hobby box retail version of 2022 Topps Gallery comes with 20 packs of 5 cards. Each box also comes with 2 autographs and boxes run about $115 per. Not too bad considering today's box prices with the same amount of hits.

The design stays pretty close to what it has looked like in years past since Topps reengergized it.

INSERTS:

MasterStrokes falls 1:18 packs and has 20 cards to collect. The one on the right is the blue parallels, blue writing, it is /99.

Next Wave falls 1:15 packs and has 25 cards to collect. I really like the look of this one compared to the other inserts in this product.

Portrait Gallery has 10 cards in the set and falls 1:18 packs.

Modern Artists has 25 cards falling at 1:15 packs. I really don't mind this design either. Kind of its the Gallery/art theme.

HITS:

Autographs come with parallels as well. You know, like most products.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

This product doesn't have the same feel or appeal of the 90's version, but I still didn't mind it too much. I would probably only stick to this version of buying it if I had to choose. I think Blasters are full of dullness.

As for value, I didn't pull any of the key rookies, the autographs were bad in more than one way, but at least I found a Ken Griffey Jr and Derek Jeter card. Those made me happy.

Rodney's Cardboard:1997 Topps Gallery No Foil White Border Proof

Not to brag, but I have gotta have the most unique Rodney Hampton collection out there. How could I not?

I add anything I can with his name on it. From magazines to jerseys (only have one of these) to cards to oddball cards.

Today's card marks a new proof card I have in my PC for Rodney.

This card is from 1997 Topps Gallery. This is a proof card that is the production before they become cards. Hence the no foil and white border which would be trimmed off normally.

Back of the card intact like the real card, well besides the border.

The seller is one I have gotten my past Hampton proofs off from. Good prices and combines shipping so that is right up my alley. Another thing is he just listed a bunch more Hampton proofs that I need. I will have to wait til funding is good again but I plan on scooping them up when I do.

Kerry's Cardboard:1997 Topps Gallery Gallery Of Heroes

One of my favorite insert lines of the 90's, yes I have many favorites so I use that line a lot, was Gallery Of Heroes from Topps Gallery.

I never actually ever pulled one or even saw one up close, til I bought the Griffey from 2000 Topps Gallery, but have always wanted one from 1997 THE OG of the insert line.

I have tried a few times to land a Griffey, but the prices were out of my cheap price range.

I also tried to land a Kerry Collins three different times with no good outcomes.

Til try number four.

It was cheap and I was the only bidder, so it was mine.

These inserts fell 1:36 packs on average and feature a stained glass background and acetate see-thru.

It's really hard to capture the card in a picture but I tried my best by standing it up.

Pretty happy to land this one and had landed it cheap. I don't think Kerry was featured in any of the other years of Gallery Of Heroes so I own the one and only year of it. Otherwise, those would be my next "for sure" chases.

REVIEW:2018 Topps Gallery Baseball Collector Box

That artistic feel that was from the 90's and returned a few years ago is back for more action in 2018.

This product is a Walmart Exclusive product meaning it's only sold at Walmart unless you buy some off from online sites like eBay. But, I don't suggest that as the boxes are always marked up. These come in a different levels but today I am breaking the retail equivalent of a hobby box.

Last years product I was pretty happy with and was happy it returned for another year. What were my thoughts on this edition? Well, read on to see my thoughts.

 

In every box of 2018 Topps Gallery baseball Collectors Box is 20 packs of 5 cards per pack. You will find two autographs per box and boxes currently run at $80.

Each box also comes with a box topper. For some reason my picture of the card didn't upload, but mine was a base version of Adrian Beltre. But you can find original pieces in these toppers. Pretty cool.

The base set is done by a great group of artists, seen here on a filler card,

and captures each player in the 200 card base set and throughout the product. The base set features current stars,

legends of the game,

and all of the key rookies. Surprisingly for once I found them all in my break.

 

There are also 50 short prints to chase to make up the total of 200. Adding short prints to a base set I have always been fond of. Makes the chase for the base set more challenging and adds value to it instead of putting the whole thing in a box.

The product also features parallels. But, which ones don't anymore.

Other parallels include, Wood, Green /99, Blue /50, Red 1/1, and Printing Plates 1/1.

Inserts have parallels as well. These include, Green /250, Blue /99, Orange /25, and Red 1/1

Masterpiece has 30 cards in all to collect.

Now onto my autograph finds. Try not to look if you can and just sigh.

Ouch. I haven't heard of either of those guys. I am sure more in-depth fans have but from such a big checklist I had hoped to at least land one name I know.

Other hits not found in my box but could be in yours include,

OVERALL: Well, I love the look of the product, just too bad for $80 my box didn't provide me with a decent hit. It was a rough break in terms of value.

I like the switch to a white border for the base cards instead of colored and the gold foil helps add a distinguished look overall. The inserts don't look too bad either.

REVIEW:2017 Topps Gallery Baseball Collectors Box

Topps Gallery makes its triumphant return since it's disappearance in 2005 and it brings back everything you liked about the product.

The only downside, you have gotta find them at Walmart before everyone else does.

You can find Topps Gallery in Collectors Boxes with 2 autographs, fat packs and in blaster boxes. Today's break is a Collectors Box with the two autographs.

Let's take a look.

Every box of 2017 Topps Gallery Baseball Collectors Box comes with 20 packs and boxes running around $70 with 2 autographs.

The base set is 200 cards with the last 50 being Sp's. The 150 card base set is made up of stars of today and tomorrow, while the Sp set has players of yesterday and fall 1:20 packs. I need to find myself the Griffey.

The cards themselves are beautifully done artistically with a nice border touch. They are the same Gallery you have always come to know to love.

Building a regular base set shouldn't be too hard, however with Sp's at 1:20, the master set won't be as easy.

On the back of the card, the artists names are featured.

Speaking of Artists, they even have their own cards in the product. There are two to find.

Like any product, there are parallels to find as well. I pulled Private Issue which fall 1:8 packs in the collectors boxes.

and an Orange /25 that falls 1:196 packs.

There is also, Artist Proof,Canvas, Green /99 falls 1:50, Blue /50 fall 1:98,Red 1/1 falls 1:4,867, and Printing Plates 1/1 that fall 1:1,217.

Now onto my insert pulls. Unlike the base, they are very high gloss.

Heritage insert falls 1:10 packs. I pulled two pretty solid base ones especially in #AllRise. These have parallels as well including Orange that I found.

 

Parallels include, Green /250 falls 1:74, Blue /99 falls 1:185, Orange /25 falls 1:731, and Red 1/1 falls 1:17,195.

Masterpiece which is a really nice insert design falls 1:10 packs. These also have parallels to find.

 

Parallels for these include, Green /250 falls 1:98, Blue /99 falls 1:247, Orange /25 falls 1:977, and Red 1/1 falls 1:23,448. 

Hall Of Fame Gallery includes, well, Hall Of Famers. Solid design as well and high gloss. These fall 1:20 packs and also comes with parallels.

 

Parallels for these include, Green /250 falls 1:98, Blue /99 falls 1:247, Orange /25 falls 1:977, and Red 1/1 falls 1:23,448. 

Now onto my autograph pulls.

I pulled two base autographs of Cardinals rookies.

 

The autographs also have parallels that include, Green /99 falls 1:69, Blue /50 falls 1:116, Orange /25 falls 1:195, and Red 1/1 falls 1:4,372. There are tough Sp's to land as well.

Other pulls not in my box include,Cut Signatures, The Expressionists , The Expressionists Autographs,Hall of Fame Gallery Autographs ,Heritage Autographs, Masterpiece Autographs, and Artists Originals Sketch.

OVERALL, I am happy that Gallery is back. I didn't fair too well in terms of autographs in this box but I am happy with the overall break. Price isn't terrible for a 2 autograph product and it comes in many levels so you can take a dip in at fat packs, move up to blaster then go all out on one of these if you are impressed.  I have seen autographs be hit from the other forms of distribution including one by my father who landed a Mancini auto from a blaster.

I guess the only downside is the Walmart exclusive part. A lot of baseball products in 2017 were hard to find at retail outlets because of the hot rookie class as everyone bough multiple boxes, then re-sold them for twice as much online leaving some collectors empty handed.

Griffey Gallery Of Heroes

For months I have been in the hunt for a Gallery Of Heroes card of Jr. Actually, I have been on the prowl for all of them.

The one I have wanted the most is the 1998 version that has one sweet design. However, the card three times slipped though my fingers on eBay when I was bidding on it. I guess it just wasn't meant to be. However, at the same time I was bidding on the 1998 version, I also put a bid in for 1997, 1999 and 2000 and hoped I would land at least one. 

1997 and 1999 got too far for me however, 2000 fell into my hands for $5 so I took it.

These cards are printed on acetate plastic and have a stained glass appeal. These fell 1:24 packs or one per box in 2000. So finding the players you wanted wasn't always an easy task.

 

I am glad to have one of the 4 I wanted knocked off my list. I haven't decided if I want the 1998 jumbo version yet or not, but I definitely hope to add the regular version to the PC someday.
