Yard Sale Find # 11: Ex 2001 Baseball

We recently posted about a Yard Sale we went to and picked up a bunch of sports cards at (mostly baseball). We thought it would be fun to take you on the journey with us to discover what is inside of every box, every single we got picking out the best ones along the way to show. Alright...stop drooling on your keyboard. This product was so stunning to me. And yes, that's my opinion you may not feel the same but these were so stunning and so innovative for the 90's. The use of acetate and thick silver rainbow "sprinkle" board made these cards and player jump out at you in a 3-D approach. As we mentioned in our last post about Ex2000, the Ex2001 edition was much more drool worthy.

 

 

Ex2001 baseball design was also used for football and basketball and was something else I collected. I had to have all sports for both years. At that time, this was a high end product so I couldn't buy too much at a time .However, I truly wished I had kept what I had.

Ex2001 baseball was produced in 1998. Which this years product included autographs and memorabilia pieces as the start of the overuse of jersey and autograph cards era boomed. I think the product was great without it. But hey, can't stop a revolution.

Box Breakdown:

24 packs per box, 5 cards per pack (much more than the previous years that only included 2 cards per pack)

Parallel sets:
Essential Credentials Now (Veterans numbered to 299)
Essential Credentials Future (Rookies numbered to 29)
30 Rookies (10 numbered to 2999, 10 numbered to 2499, 10 numbered to 1999 - over 10,000 will be Autographed)
Wall of Fame 1:24
Behind the Numbers 1:33 (Game Worn Jersey cards, some Autographed)
Base Inks (Autographed Derek Jeter World Series Game Used Base cards)

Upon our digging, other than finding roughly 35 base cards, we found these inserts buried within. The best of the group being Livan Hernandez. This set wasn't quite put together like the Ex2000's we found, but still will be something we treasure.

And speaking of treasures, that's what you would call some of their inserts now-a-days. Pulling the Essential Credentials Now or the Essential Credentials Future may not have seen like much then, but they are now HOT inserts to have especially for basketball. I am shaking my head as I type this knowing what I may have lost.

Yard Sale Find # 10 Ex 2000 Baseball

When I saw a box marked Ex 2000, I immediately scooped it up. I knew already what I was getting. Would the box have flair and possible big time hits..most likely no. And that isn't the reason I wanted it. It was for these cards. Yup, base cards. How many collectors now-a-days get excited over base cards..well this guy does!

 

 

This design is spectacular. Rainbow cardboard with different colored borders. A full action shot of a player in front of an acetate background.  This kind of design is one of the very few that I enjoy that don't involve action photography. This also happens to be one of the brands I  really miss. I know I say I miss a lot of them, but this one truly is at the top.

At one point in my collecting career, I had this set put together. But, time wore on and when I was still living at home my father decided to sell it. So finding some of the base cards again, which I found out that it was about 8 cards short of a set, was very exciting. 

Ex2000 baseball came out in 1997 and was created by the geniuses at Fleer (which rights are now owned by Upper Deck).

It was a product for baseball, basketball, football. The Ex line didn't make it too many years but I always enjoyed what they brought to the table for base cards. In my next Yard Sale post will be an even better designed Ex set that came out the following year in Ex2001.

There are also treasures to find in this product too, that's what you would call some of their inserts now-a-days anyways. Yard Sale Find # 9: 2001 Topps Fusion Baseball

We recently posted about a Yard Sale we went to and picked up a bunch of sports cards at (mostly baseball). We thought it would be fun to take you on the journey with us to discover what is inside of every box, every single we got picking out the best ones along the way to show. We hope you enjoy the trip and comments are always welcomed.

I hadn't actually heard of this product before. And if I had, I definitely hadn't bought any. Topps Fusion is exactly what the product title states, if Fuses multiple Topps products into one big one. There is Bowman's Best, Topps Gold Label, Topps Finest, Topps Gallery, Topps Stadium Club built into this one product.

 Depending on what number in the base set a card was, depended on which Topps product was there. For example, Card numbers ending in a 1 or 6 are done in the style of Bowman's Best. And from there on the different Topps products fill up a base set.

 

Bowman's Best is a missed Topps product of mine. I really liked the different base card appeal with the rainbow shine.

 

 

Topps Gallery, another Topps product that got axed, was a weird addition to this product I think. Doesn't seem to fit in.But maybe they did it to offset all of the glimmer. I think Topps Chrome would have been a better fit however.

 

 

One of the only Topps products that offered amazing photography along with it being borderless, Stadium Club I think is a sad loss for Topps. I am about action photography and most of the time their products don't provide that anymore. Or if they do a border takes up a lot of the card. That's what made this Topps product superb.

 

 

And who doesn't miss Gold Label?  I guess if Topps made this Fusion product now-a-days with the same products it should be called 2013 Topps Why Did We Get Rid Of Some Of These?

Another thing to note about Topps Fusion baseball 2001 that it's the only product that offers a Marco Scutaro rookie card. Which we did not find in this assorted box.

Yard Sale Find # 8 2000 Topps Chrome Baseball/ 2000 UD Pros&Prosp

We recently posted about a Yard Sale we went to and picked up a bunch of sports cards at (mostly baseball). We thought it would be fun to take you on the journey with us to discover what is inside of every box, every single we got picking out the best ones along the way to show. This box contained box 2000 Topps Chrome and 2000 Upper Deck Pro's and Prospect Cards.

 

Always been a Chromie, but man, these cards really bend. Especially these ones that had sat around in a box for awhile. Going to take a stack of books to fix.

It actually turned out that their was a complete base set of 2000 Upper Deck Pros and Prospects. We also found this card stuck at the end of the base set:

Let us know your thoughts on this find. Gotta say the most exciting find from the box was the Vernon Wells. The Topps Chrome stack was all base cards and not even a star player other than the Gwynn. The set was pretty cool, but we think the Wells was the value find in the box.

A Sidsgraphs Phillip Wheeler 8x10 Auto Mail Day

Yesterday this arrived in the mail:

 

This auto photo I received was for a contest win from Sidsgraphs who hosted the entire month of October with daily autograph item giveaways. They held these contests both on Facebook and on Twitter.

 

The photo arrived in a Top Loader, something not all memorabilia companies ship with and also came with what I would call an extra bonus collectible. A picture of Wheeler signing the photos. That's pretty cool to me and is as authentic of a picture as it gets.

As for Wheeler, he is an up and coming pitcher for the Mets. He could be the number one starter there with Johan Santana on the way out. Wheeler put up decent numbers as a rookie in 2013:

With that being said expect the Mets and their fans to have even higher expectations for the 2014 season. And now I have them as well with this autograph photo now in the PC.

Autographed Baseball Memorabilia Lane Mail Day

 

I received this in the mail awhile ago, like over a month, and I have been needing to give these guys a shout out for the awesome mail day. It's my first Melky Cabrera autograph and only my 2nd autographed baseball.

If you don't know who Memorabilia Lane is, they are a company known to have a variety of autographed items from sports, personalities and actors. You can find them on Twitter (also on Facebook) which is where I found them and won this from. They are always doing giveaways and always having sales on the vast variety of items they sell.

Review: Topps Chrome Baseball 2013 Blaster Box

Box Break Down:

• 7 Packs Per Box (8 if you count the bonus pack), 4 Cards Per Pack
• One bonus pack with 4 purple refractors
• $19.99 a box

 

BASE CARDS:My need for Chrome needed to be satisfied and a blaster box is always a great appetizer to start with.

Something different that immediately caught my attention about this years Topps Chrome base cards is the feel. I think Topps copied Panini's Prizm base cards and made them thicker. By doing this, it will help with the cards not bending. Great move by Topps.

As for terms of design, its Chromed. May I need to say more?

Note: Don't throw away your base cards, there are Sp Variations as well!

 

 

 

Bonus Pack Pulls:

INSERTS:Refractors. That is all....just kidding. I love refractors. I don't care what color they fall. They are bright, shiny and very eye catchy and a collectors dream to chase down and put sets together of. Or rainbows of their favorite players. My favorite pull from the refractor bunch has got to be the die cut. Very appealing.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:Not many cards in a box, but there is enough value in a blaster to take a chance. You pull about 5 rookie cards), 4 refractor parallels in packs and then you get the 4 card pack of Purple ones. Not to mention a shot a autographs. We did very well in our box pulling two top rookies in Will Myers and Evan Gattis. Along with some nice refractors. Once again Topps Chrome proves to be the best retail buy out there.
