Today, April ONE, it's weird calling it that but I just want you to go with it regardless, I have ONE card to show off. Just ONE.

 

That ONE card is a 1984 Topps Glossy All-Stars Dave Winfield that I have ONE copy of. I also have ONE full set as well. Why did I choose this ONE card from the set? He is the ONE and only NY Yankee from that set....surprisingly. Can you imagine Topps only putting ONE Yankee in a set today? I heard you all laughing as we all know, it's not happening.

Now more on Winfield. He played for more than ONE team, was a ONE time World Series champion and ONE time NL RBI leader. Also, his jersey number for his time with the Yankees, thirty-ONE.

If that's not enough, Winfield retired in 1996 and guess what, was voted into the Hall Of Fame in 2000 and...you got it..ONE. The same year the Padres retired his jersey number... again thirty-ONE.

I think by now you guys are tired of seeing the number ONE. I know this ONE blogger has. Okay, that wasn't supposed to come out that way. It was the ONE and final time I promise.

Topps Football HOFer Rookie Card Mail Day!

I was recently looking at my want list and compared it to eBay listings for each item. Out of all of the Most Wanted items, the one that stood out the one I felt was a must need was a 1984 Dan Marino rookie card.

I have been waiting to purchase one in hopes that I could trade for one since that is how I got my Elway, but that didn't feel like it was going to happen, so I hit eBay. I was also hoping to land one on an auction deal, but every time I tried, it went more than I was willing to pay. What can I say, I am cheap.

So for the first time in my life, I actually paid $20 for a card. Yes, I am very frugal with how I spend my eBay money. I would rather buy a few lots for the $20 instead of buying one single card. But, this time, I closed my eyes and bought it.

Glad I did.

Other than a little bit of centering, and I mean a little, this card is flawless. A great investment to me. Glad I got myself to bypass my own stinginess.

How many of you suffer from my frugalness about picking up one card over a multitude?

Breakin Wax:1984 Topps Baseball Pack Break

By far one of the oldest packs I have ever opened, 1984 Topps provided me a small glimpse back in time when things in the hobby were a bit simpler.

I was really hoping to find a Mattingly, but no such luck. Read on to see what I did find...

In every pack of 1984 Topps baseball is 15 cards. You will get a mix of veterans, subsets and possibly rookies. These packs are selling for $6 each.

I actually think of this design as iconic. It's one of those designs that is forever imprinted in your mind. By now you have figured out I am not fan of borders, but something about these and the way they look, I really like it. I think the floating heads in the bottom left hand corner is what really catches my attention the most with the layout. 

Yankees PC addition!

This card caught my attention. Something with Stoddards face after his pitch release amuses me.

Overall, nothing big here. I will say other than the design, I had fun busting it. I questioned opening it many times as I looked at it as a collectible sealed. The busting itch from within however, overwrote me and that's why this newest post from the Breakin Wax series was brought to life.

What's In The Mail Box?

In the mail box today, was a sweet score I won from Small Traditions. If you don't know who Small Traditions is, they are an online sports and collectibles auction company that is similar to eBay except that they charge the buyers to participate in their auctions instead of the sellers. They also run random contests on Twitter and some epic big lot contests on their Facebook page. Another positive about them is I assume they are big Yankees fans as they are always discussing Pinstripes and their cards.

In a recent giveaway on Twitter, they were giving away a sweet 1984 Donruss Don Mattingly rookie card. I RT'd the contest on Twitter in hopes of scoring my first rookie card of the now Dodgers skipper and former Yankee and that's what exactly happened. I was chosen as the winner when it was announced the next day and they shipped this beauty of a card out and had it to me within 4 days.
