REVIEW:2017 Panini Chronicles Baseball (HUGE HIT)

Panini Chronicles baseball is an intriguing product. It chronicles many products into one and some of these products we have yet to see in baseball form.

I haven't decided if I like the format or not, but there are a lot of things I do like. What were they...READ ON!

In every box of 2017 Panini Chronicles baseball, there are 12 packs per box with 5 cards per pack. There should be 4 hits per box with boxes currently running $90. Mickey Mantle cards can be found  throughout the product. I didn't find a single one sadly.

With so much going on in this product, let's start out with the Chronicles part of it. There are 150 cards in the base set that documents the events of a game with lots of text on the back and the front of the card. Of course, Mantle is part of the base set and there is also a rookie subset numbered to 499 copies. A lot of this product is rookie based.

Players in the base set are of today, tomorrow and yesterday.

As with any product, there are base cards parallels. Those include Gold /999, Blue /399, Green /199, Purple /99, Red /25 and Black 1/1. They are defined by the color of the foil on the card.

(I put a base rookie with this Blackmon parallel for some reason but there is an example of one)

Up next, Donruss Rated Rookies. There are 50 cards in the set to collect covering the already established stars and the upcoming ones.

And they as well have parallels, Cyan Back, Gray Border /199, Gold Press Proof /99 (shown below), Aqueous Test Proof /49, Pink Border /25, Artist Proof /10, Press Proof /5 and Printing Plates 1/1.

Prizm. I don't mind another round of shiny stuff. There are 50 cards in this set as well and parallels that include, Flash, Orange /399, Light Blue /299, Blue Wave /199, Purple Scope /99, Red Crystals /75, Green Power /49, Camo /25 (the Lindor below), Gold /10, Gold Vinyl /5, and Black Finite 1/1.

That was the end of my base/inserts. Base I didn't see in this break was Gold Standard and Absolute Rookies. Both of those have 25 in the set.

Now time for the hits!

The first taste of Panini Gold Standard baseball was included. All season Reyes has stalked me in my breaks. Almost every break I have done I hit him in some form. Nice looking card for sure!

Contenders autographs. There are 50 autographs to chase with parallels of, Playoff Ticket /99 Championship Ticket /49, Cracked Ice Ticket /24, and Printing Plates 1/1

 

And we also get our first taste of Spectra baseball. And what a sweet taste it was. Time to get off your seat and #AllRise for this hit.

 

Other hits not included in my box are, Chronicles Autographs, Chronicles Swatches, Chronicles Signature Swatches,Donruss Signature Series ,Gold Standard Rookie Jersey Autographs,Gold Standard Rookie Jersey Autographs Double,Gold Standard Newly Minted Memorabilia,Prizm Autographs,Spectra Rookie Jersey Autographs, Spectra Triple Threat Materials ,Absolute Rookie Premiere Materials Autographs,Absolute Tools of the Trade Materials Double,Absolute Tools of the Trade Materials Triple,Absolute Tools of the Trade Materials Quad and Absolute Tools of the Trade Materials Five.

OVERALL: Well, it's a bit of an odd combination of products in one. I actually may had liked it better without the Chronicles base cards which I believe is the main part of the product. It could have been a all high end dinner plate offered here and then offer the Chronicles base product as a low end card offering. However, it is what it is and the offerings in the product are not bad overall. I liked the designs and liked seeing baseball in products never been in before.  I hope this is a glimpse of something down the road.

Value wise without the Judge I didn't feel there was a lot here. I don't normally get that feeling with Panini baseball products as they are normally packed with value but it was lacking here, at least in my box. But, luckily the Judge saved the break.

Another fun offering I haven't mentioned yet about the Mickey Mantle cards is they come in hit form. Would have been sweet to landed a Mickey memorabilia card from Absolute.

REVIEW:2015-2016 Panini Gold Standard Basketball

For only the second time in my collecting career, I had the opportunity to bust a box of Gold Standard. My first time of opening it, went extremely well. This time...well...eh...you will see.

 

In every box of 2015-2016 Panini Gold Standard Basketball there is 1 Pack Per Box with 7 Cards Per Pack that includes1 Rookie Jersey Autograph card and 2 additional autograph or memorabilia cards. Boxes run about $150 per. So it's high end.

Every box should come with three numbered base cards. They are numbered to 299. I personally think the base cards look great and I have no complaints on the design. The gold foil shine with color player photo and team logo in the back stand out. However, My player selection was a bit weak.

Along with the base cards, you will also find one parallel per box. Mine was of the great Gary Payton and is numbered to 79. The card is embossed and has a superfractor appeal.

Now onto the hits.

My first autograph is a Mother Lode of Dontas Motiejunas from the Rockets. This guy hasn't played in the NBA much and has spent a lot of his career overseas after being drafted by the Timberwolves then traded to Houston. It's disappointing to find this type of player in a high-end product.

At least the design is nice and sticks with the gold theme throughout the product.

My next find was a Gold Scripts autograph of another Houston Rocket, this time an upgrade in Calvin Murphy. This Hall of Famers autograph is numbered to 99. I must also make note he has a pretty nice signature.

My final hit involves a player from one of my least favorite NBA teams and my favorite college one, Justise Winslow of the Miami Heat/Duke Bluedevils.

Winslow was the 10th overall pick in the draft but hasn't quiet found his way in the NBA yet. His season high in points was actually done this week against the Pacers and that was for 20. Justise is getting there, just taking time.

The design of these rookie autos is familiar to one I had seen in a football product, I am thinking Absolute, but is well done and balances nicely when it comes to layout. I must note the autograph is also on-card and that the card is numbered to 99.

You will find one of these rookie autographs per box.

 

Overall, I am a bit disappointed compared to the only other box of Gold Standard I had opened. It felt very lackluster for a product that costs as much as it does for this few amount of cards. I know every box can't drop a Kevin Durant or Kobe Bryant autograph, but there has got to be a balance somewhere. Pulling a Dontas Motiejunas auto is a bit scary in a product like this.

The product when it comes to just looks, top notch. Cards are golden and are printed on nice card stock. Rookie autos are on-card so that should make many happy. Other than value vs cost I couldn't find much wrong with it.

So in my opinion, if you like to roll the dice, it's a great product and has a ton of sweet cards you could pull. If you are one to be more focused on getting your money back every time, I would hesitate. Gold Standard has a lot to offer, it's just landing the right box.

Review: Panini Gold Standard Basketball 2013-2014

A box of cards that come shipped in a box the shape of a gold brick, how can you not want to give it a try? One of Panini's most popular brands among NBA collectors makes an awesome return in 2013-2014 packed with everything that collectors want. Just see for yourself!

DESIGN:
If you are looking for an overall product with eye appeal, well you found one right here. From the base cards to the autographs, everything is gold and has a shine to it.

The Black Gold jersey cards look outstanding. A nice size swatch and a decent shot of a player has this card well balanced in design. Not too much of one thing or another.

And the Gold Record design paying tribute to Rock And Rollers looks great as well printed in black and gold with the gold record being an actual piece of 14K gold.

And all autographs are ON CARD! That also helps with design in the product as its much more elegant without stickers.

The metal cards, my first one, are very heavy and a very unique collectible to be had.

COOL NOTES:  Look for Solid Gold Cards with photos on real 14 Karat Gold. This is very cool!
Also you can find 25 short-printed variations cards featuring players wearing the jerseys of every team they've played for. Makes for quite the chase! Also in this years product is four brand-new autograph inserts all numbered to 299 or less!

THOUGHTS: 
Well, this was my first time ever opening this product because it is expensive but I must say I am overly impressed. The appeal from the outside of the box, a gold brick, the value (at least in this box) and the overall design of this product makes me wonder why I hadn't tried it earlier. I guess the fear of not pulling back my money's worth was part of the problem. With a great break of the product like this one, hitting the Griffin as my top card in the pack may help tempt me to come back again. I must state again,  with every product, there is some risk involved but if I am going to take such a risk, I would take it with a product like this one that has so much to offer.

You ask what does it have to offer, I say on-card autographs, glimmer and shine, chances at a card completely made of gold and cards with gold pieces in them. Almost every card being numbered helping values. Not to mention and I will say it again, a really nice design.

One of the weird and only disappointing thing I found with the product was that every card is numbered EXCEPT the autographed/memorabilia rookie cards. Those are supposed to be one of the premier hits in a box break and not to find it numbered was a bit odd.

However, overall, I like Gold Standard and wished Panini would extend this brand back out to the NFL. Design and on-card autos alone would help sell it.

Nice Cardsmiths Break Mail Day

Got this bad boy in the mail the other day. I luckily caught the fact that Cardsmiths were breaking Gold Standard while I was gone on a trip, I always keep tabs on the blog, Twitter and Facebook when away, and didn't miss out on this break. I have never busted the product before. Usually can't afford it.

 It was a random break meaning I could have ended up with any team. At first I was truly hoping to land the 49ers to try and get Kaepernick, but was glad when the Falcons were the team I ended up with especially getting such a nice rookie/auto/patch card of their top wide receiver!

It's this kind of mojo why I try to send you guy's their way!

"One of my favorite products from 2011. Panini hit a home run with this product and I hope they do the same this year. The cards are shiny, exciting, great quality, feel expensive and just plain awesome. This box had 12 cards, 5 hits, 2 rookies, 2 inserts, 1 Legend and 2 base cards. Everything in this set in serial numbered which is awesome. The hits are very nice, always fun to see legends like Jim Kelly, base rookie autos are stickers but the Patch Auto is on card (AWESOME). Every time I break this stuff I am satisfied, 9.25/10 for design, 9.25/10 for quality, 9.75/10 for value."

Preview: Panini Gold Standard Basketball 12-13

Panini released images of Gold Standard Basketball and I can say once again I am impressed by another Panini NBA release.

It appears this years version will surpass all others.

 

A break should deliver four autographs, one memorabilia card and one metal card in every 10-card box

  

There is also a 305-card base set featuring 80 autographed memorabilia RCs, five base inserts, three memorabilia inserts and four autograph inserts. Makes quite a thing to chase after.

There is also 25 base-set SPs featuring selected stars wearing the jerseys of every team they have ever played for.
