Rookie Card Contest Winnings Mail Day

Every Sunday on Twitter, a group of guys run what they call #SundayFunday. #SundayFunday is a variety of contests run by those guys using that catchy hashtag. One of those guys is @danblair83.

And that's the very quick back story on what led to this mail day.
          
@danblair83 is one of the good guys on Twitter that not only does contests, but also likes to discuss the hobby as well.Those two things combined is why I followed.

Last Sunday I was one of the lucky #SundayFunday winners and the prize lot consisted of rookies. If you have read this blog before, you know that is right up my alley.


But enough with my jabbering, now onto the good stuff!!

Will be interesting to see how this guy does for the Jets. I can see him having a big season if the Jets can find a QB to throw to him haha!

Fan Box Break: 2013 Topps Heritage Baseball Blaster Box

2013 Heritage Blaster - Another enjoyable product that replicates an old school style. Unfortunately, this product no longer has the feel of an older card which is disappointing. Still though, it is a fairly decent product and enjoyable to break in small quantities. I pulled a few cool rookie cards, a sweet Beatles card, a Wal-Mart Blue Yu Darvish and the Zimmerman mini. The Zimmerman mini I was pretty excited about due to the fact that it is hand numbered. I believe that adds a nice touch to the rarity of the card, it is much more exciting than a printed serial number. Overall this product is one of my least favorites because I simply find myself bored after 6 or so packs. 5/10 for design 5/10 for quality 6/10 for value.

Review Topps Baseball 2013 (2 Rack Packs)

The first product that says 2013 on it from Topps. I do collect baseball on and off and this is a product that I get every year to get things going for baseball. We all dabble into other sports time to time. By they way, my first 2013 baseball card was a C.C. Sabathia Base card.

I have been disappointed in the past few years as Topps has killed it a little with the overload of inserts that look lame. But this year...they turned the corner on the product and I am very impressed.

Rack Pack Break Down:

• Packs will run you around $5
• Comes with 3 blue border parallels per pack (Walmart version)

BASE CARDS: Topps has always stuck with basically the same design on the base cards. There is not too much different about them year in and year out. My one complaint about this every year is how much the border takes up the card. I wished they could minimize it some and give us the full baseball photography more. Since they like having a white border on their base product, maybe minimize the bottom a little and just put the name in silver right onto the card itself centered.

INSERTS: FINALLY!!! The Topps officials must have sat down and said..how do we impress Sport Card Collectors this year with our inserts??? Lets take time on them and improve them and that they did. After busting into the first pack and seeing the glimmer and shine and inserts that jumped out to me..I actually looked forward to busting the second one and possibly more now. Kudos to Topps for going back in time and taking some of their best classic inserts and bringing them back. I can actually feel the collectability in these and would put sets together. And finding 4 or 5 per pack doesn't bother me as much anymore. Hope they keep this trend up!

AUTOGRAPHS: N/A (it would be rare to find in a retail, but you never know)

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS: Was surprised to find this in my second of the two rack packs. Brought even more value. I also like the design.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: I hope all Topps products are like this, this year and I hope they bring to football Topps like they brought to this one. If they do it will be epic. I am finally very happy to buy baseball cards again and hope the effort they put into this product carries onto their other 2012 products.

Review:Topps Chrome Baseball Blaster Box 2012

This is my first break of Topps Chrome baseball 2012. It may be in blaster form, but thought I would give a review of the product since I hadn't busted any. I know its a few months late, but like they say, better late than never!

Box Break Down:

• 7 Pack Per Box, 4 Cards Per Pack
• 1 Bonus Pack of 4 Blaster Box Exclusive of Purple Refractors
• $20 PER BLASTER BOX

Base Cards

Rookies..got great ones like Yu Darvish and Yoenis Cespedes

BASE CARDS: Once again, its Chrome. What is there not to like about the base cards? However, I will say one thing about them, they have a tendency to bend and these ones as you can see in some photos did. That could be a problem with them down the road.

 INSERTS: You gotta love the beauty of the refractors. No matter what color they come in.

AUTOGRAPHS: NONE (Though pulling some from retail is never out of the question)

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS: NONE


OVERALL THOUGHTS: Another great buy. For your $20 you at least get that back if not times two. Buying Chrome at any level whether its packs, box, blasters, retail or hobby you can't go wrong. I like the addition of the bonus purple refractors to the blaster. Makes chasing down Yu or Harper even better in this product. Another thing to note are the Sp photo variations you can find as well.

Review: 2 Topps Update Baseball retail packs

Been hearing so much about this product decided to pick up a couple of packs. First impression was this product isn't that bad. For around $2 a pack..I think we did okay.

 Packaging: It stands out as it was easy to find on the shelf. And it has Bryce Harper on the front...that will draw enough attention.

Base Card

Back of a Base card...this one is rookie Matt Adams pictured below

 Base Card: Not bad, wished Topps would minimize their white borders a little and give us more photography like Upper Deck did with their MLB cards. But updated uniforms for mid season traded players and free agents is great.

Rookie Cards: They blend in with the base except that dreaded rookie logo. But love the addition of late rookies that were not included in the first two series.

 Inserts: I like the designs the sparkle and the mini's. What I don't like is how easy these inserts are to come by. You get at least two or three per pack. Thats way too many. I would like to see that many per box. Make then more rare. Make them worth money. There are some base cards now-a-days that are worth more than an insert card. That's a lot different from the 90's.

Overall: Rookie cards and updated uniforms for players is what we like about this product. The inserts are aplenty so it will be easy to get your money back out of retail packs.
