Swingin' For A Win

@WCoastScouting on his Twitter bio states that he is a "former baseball scout and VP of baseball agency representing professional players" but what it doesn't state is how beyond generous he is.

Every day it feels like he is handing out autographed baseballs, broken bats or both with a lot of big names mixed in.

I have been wanting for months to win one of his broken bats since I don't own a single piece of game used memorabilia and thought it would be a great add to the man cave.

Well, after months and grueling months of not winning, I finally saw my name on the big stage and I got to take home one of his broken bats.

It arrived on Monday.

 

Here she is in all it's beauty. I had this in my hand within a couple of days. Let's take a closer look at it.

Player Info:Jonathan Sierra is a minor league RF in the Cubs system who signed as international free agent in August of 2015.. He hasn't put up the biggest stats yet in minors, but is still raw at age 21.

Pretty cool piece huh?

 I can't wait to get something to protect this with and put it on my shelf.

HOBBY TOPIC

Today's Topic: Would the hobby survive if we didn't do memorabilia or autographed cards anymore?

What happens if all we pulled from packs were inserts and base cards? Would it help you lean towards not having autographs and memorabilia cards anymore if companies improved upon designs for the base and insert cards and brought back innovations? Would you not want to collect anymore if companies got rid of them?

This question is a toughie and I can't wait to see what you guys respond with!

Hobby Break 'Em: 2013 Upper Deck Thor The Dark World 8 Pack Break

Being a collector of everything and a fan of Marvel comics and movies, yup you can call me a full-time nerd, I thought it would be fun to be able to break some packs of Thor The Dark World.

There are 8 cards per pack of Thor The Dark World. Two of those may be subset cards along with one sticker. You can find sketch cards, rare autographs and costume cards from the movie. Each pack is a little under $5.

Now onto how I did:

Upper Deck even does a great job with mostly borderless photography cards for entertainment cards as well giving you the best action shots from the movie.

There are also two subsets within the Thor base set:

 

STICKERS!

Who doesn't want a costume card of the one and only Natalie Portman? This is also the second best costume card you can get from the set.

Very cool 1/1 Sketch Card . I have always been a fan of these.

This final card, though not very valuable, is so sweet. It's printed on very thick acetate and has a 3D look to it.

Overall, for only 8 packs, I totally scored. A 1/1, a costume card and cool designed insert.  Doesn't get any better of a break than that.

Panini's The National Memorabila and Autograph Cards 2013

Panini has revealed the last couple of days images of Memorabilia and Autograph cards you can find in their wrapper redemption program from The National.

WARNING: Try not to drool on your keyboard.

Memorabilia Cards:

Not only did Panini capture some of their employees and include them into the cards:

 

They have an added bonus to these Tools Of The Trade Memorabilia cards by adding sweat from players. It's like 2 memorabilia cards in one!!

 

  

 

These glove pieces are really cool!

To me, these look excellent. And the biggest positive to me, is the fact that its not everyday cards. These are not things you are going to find in packs. You won't find sketch cards like these, you won't find towel cards and you especially won't find Panini employee cards.

Review: Press Pass Parks and Recreation 2013

When Press Pass announced this release...everyone jumped all over it! I knew I had to get my hands onto some and I did. Let us know your thoughts on this product as well.

Box Break Down:

• 24 packs per box, 5 cards per pack
• 2 autographs per box
• 1 relic
• 90 card base set
• 4 sub-sets
• Under $65 a box!

 

 

 

BASE CARDS:Parks and Recreation carries a 90 Card Base Set featuring seasons 1-4 along with subsets. I think Press Pass did an excellent job here capturing those favorite moments from the Emmy award winning shows first 4 seasons.

INSERTS: One silver parallel in every pack is the only insert available. I would have liked to seen maybe a couple more inserts. Maybe a rainbow parallel thats numbered and maybe another insert based around Ron Swanson's character. We know how much everyone loves him.

AUTOGRAPHS: ON CARD! All of the autographs are on card in this product making for a unique experience. That means they touched every card! Meaning its a two-fer type of pull. Well done design as well capturing each character from the show.

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS: One of the things I miss with sport cards is seeing the actual item the swatches were taken from. Not only did Press Pass show the actual item, they tell you the character, which season and which episode the piece is from. Well done (I am clapping my hands as I try to type this).

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Once again, another great product from Press Pass. They do such a great job with their NASCAR and non sport products. This is another prime example. I strongly recommend this product especially if you are a fan of the show.

For around $65 you get 3 hits, a ton of parallels, great autograph checklist and non stop laughs as you remember the great moments and play the scenes out in your mind.
