Eli Manning #1,134-1,144

It's time to roll out some more new Eli Mannings.

This one is another Black Friday that's /50

A nice dual relic with a patch of Daniel Jones to /49

They ate me lucky charms! 1/1 Proof. My first St.Patricks day card.

Another new one of these 2024 Elite cards for my run.

I have never owned one of these before, kinda different.

Rivals!

Now onto some Haunted spooky cards....

(this is a 1/1!!)

And the biggie of the post....

Looks spectacular? Am I right? And it's /25!!

That does it for all of my latest/newest Eli Mannings! I am officially caught up with these posts.

But we all know, more Eli's will be on their way at some point.

More Eli's Arrived Part 1

It has been awhile since any Eli Manning cards made their way to my place, but in my recent trade with Cheap Wax Wednesday Guru Shane, some finally arrived.

Today, I am only showing off half of the Eli mail day as I will tackle the rest in the next post.

2008 Upper Deck football heroes green parallel /350

2015 Topps Gold /2015

2008 Topps Chrome refractor. I can't honestly remember if I already had this one or not, but being a Super Bowl card, it's a keeper regardless. I have plenty of Super Bowl 42 and 46 duplicates but those two games are forever in my brain so the cards aren't going anywhere.

And a 2004 National Trading Card Day from Press Pass of Eli Manning, which also happens to be his rookie year. I do have one already but is a little rough. This one looks much better.

Part two is loaded with Eli relics, so hope you are sitting for that one.

Player HITlights:Damontre Moore

The Giants have always been built on defense.

So nobody is surprised when they go into the draft and draft defense especially in the trenches.

Sometimes they find that gem in the rough, other times, not so much.

Damontre Moore was a 3rd pick of the Giants in the 2013 NFL Draft. He didn't have much success with the Gmen and caused multiple altercations with teammates especially in the 2015 season which led to him being placed on waivers where the Dolphins snagged him.

He was bounced around a few teams and even joined the AAF league not finding success anywhere he went which is upsetting for a guy who had high expectations as a First Team All-American from Texas A&M.

I grabbed quite a few of his cards, especially autographs, in 2013 with high expectations.

At least when it comes to players on your favorite team, "prospecting" doesn't always have to be a homerun.

As the saying goes, "Once a Giant, Always A Giant"

Moore has accumulated 88 tackles and 10 sacks in his career.

Player HITlights:Aaron Ross

When sorting out my NY Giants hits collection by player, I was really surprised by some of the players and the amount of hits I have of them.

That comes from both ends of the spectrum as well.

Today's player, Aaron Ross was one of those surprises for me.

With only a total of one, ONE hit. The only card I hit I have of Ross is this autograph that came in a trade I made just a few years ago.

Ross was drafted by the Giants in the first round of the 2007 NFL. He helped with both of the teams Super Bowl runs against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 42 and Super Bowl 46. He had a career total of 200+ tackles, 2.5 sacks, 33 passes defended, and 10+ interceptions in 65 NFL games in which he started 41 games of.

Ross became a free agent corner in 2012 and signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He struggled with his play and injuries became a factor like they did the rest of his career with short stints there after. He actually went back to the Giants in 2013 before having a back injury in Week 4 that knocked him out for the season.

25 Days Of Cardmas Day 21:Almost To Victory Lane

I began my search for everything Santa and Christmas cards back in October and November and posted a thread on TCDB just to see if I could get any trades started.

But, not much took off from there, per my usual experience on that website.

However, one member known as zachbobalu1 messaged me and told me he had a Santa card from Press Pass he would like to send me. So I jumped on the chance and within a week or two the card above arrived.

The card itself is pretty stinkin' cool with  foil covering the surface. The picture of Santa riding his snowmobile sleigh to victory lane was fitting for a company known for it's NASCAR products. I wished they were still around. They made some great products.

It wasn't just the card that made me smile, it's the giving that did. The fact this person didn't even know me on TCDB and sent me this card just because. That to me is what the holiday season is all about.

My wife and I every year send baby outfits to a local hospital for families who may need a kick off help. We also almost every year choose a family in need to give gifts to. Usually my wife does the leg work on that stuff as in picking the family, the gifts and picking it all out. It always warms my heart to do this annual tradition.

Thanks again to member zachbobalu1 for the card, it means a lot and will always have a place in my collection.

Have any of you ever received a card from someone you didn't know around Christmas time?

The Origins Of A Cardboard Addict:Ouch!

Ouch!

I had a lot of ouch moments in the 90's.

One time I was hit in the face with a fast moving football. It was those hard rubber kinds to.

There was another time I tripped and fell on another kids leg playing football on recess and broke his leg while injuring my back.

I also was slammed in the nose pretty hard going for rebound causing a nose bleed.

Then there was the time I caught a fast hit wiffle ball with my barehanded causing a blood blister. Which at the time I had no idea what had happened to my middle finger. Except other kids found it funny when I showed them. The teachers not so much.

Another time I was riding my bike down a steep hill and the brakes went, when I tried to stop I obviously couldn't, I got caught up in some loose sand and flew over the handlebars hitting my face into the ground.

A lot of times there were bandages to help cover up any scratches and cuts, then there were also bandages you ate.

Wait...what?
Ouch bandage gum was made by Wrigley in the late 80's/early 90's with each gum wrapper featuring a bandage design and packed in a tin to represent a bandage box. The gum evolved into three flavors in the 90's since it's earlier beginning. It was a product my sister seemed to enjoy multiple times and not something I ever personally bought for myself. However, once in awhile, I was able to get her to share a piece and I didn't think it was too shabby. I still preferred Hubba Bubba but this tin brings back those memories of her carrying it around like she was a nurse. She would sometimes after finishing up the gum put real bandages inside or would use it to store her smaller plastic nurses toys in. Guess who always had to play the patient...yeah.

When it came to the hobby of sport cards, it recently felt an Ouch itself when Press Pass cards left us.

Press Pass produced many great products over the years for football, basketball, non sport and NASCAR which is a sport they did an amazing job with. But, it seemed they weren't keeping up in the hobby so had to close sadly.

Back in the 90's, I had my first try of Press Pass with multiple sports I purchased. Back then I considered all of their cards to be rookies up until I saw that Beckett didn't consider them that way. The hobby was based off from Beckett in those days so you abide by what they valued and called cards. So I moved them all into a binder of their own away from the "true rookies"

Press Pass at the time had multiple collegiate licenses which helped make their products unique on their own. Towards the end of their time in the hobby, they were down to just a NASCAR license, some non sport and football cards without logos which was sad to see.

At least I was able to enjoy them in their prime which to me was the late 90's up until 2004.

The 1998 Press Pass basketball was one of my favorite releases of theirs thanks to a reminder from Wes who sent some along in one of his packages. I have one other Press Pass product from that time that tops it, but that's for another day, another post.

Let's take a look at some of my favorites from 1998 Press Pass basketball,
1998 Press Pass basketball wasn't the biggest set in the world, but 45 cards of rookies was still there to chase. The design was basic, but worthwhile and the photography was well done just like this Paul Pierce card. Plenty of good names to find as well along with Pierce with Duncan and Carter.

Absolutely beautiful parallels you could find. Reflector comes with the same appeal and look of a Finest refractor. I can only imagine what this would have been like as a product on it's own. These had my attention immediately when I found them in packs. There were other parallels in the set like red and torquers, but they weren't stunning like this one.

Fast Break had a fun design and color scheme. This one is of Vince Carter

Super Six gave you a Upper Deck UD3 kind of look with a rainbow foil player appeal in the background. Sort of giving it a 3D look.

There were other inserts to find as well, but these Net Burners were my favorite ones and I believe the most common to find falling one-per-pack if my memory serves me right.  Press Pass knew had to make a great looking die cut card and this is just one example.

Press Pass '98 basketball however was really built around it's autographs at the time, but I was never fortunate in landing any in the 5 to 6 packs of it I bought from the local gas station. I was always hopeful, but no magic was ever found. Then the product was a one box and done there and I wasn't ever able to get anymore.

That was another ouch from the 90's.

Press Pass thanks for the memories over the years. I still seek out your cards especially from the 90's.

As for today, I always hoped I would leave my bad luck of injuries behind in the 90's when it hit the 2000's, but as many of you know, I have had plenty of ouch over the time since and especially the past five years. At least these ones were dealt with by a real nurse/doctor and not my sister carrying around a fake metal bandage case.

Guess The Autograph #5

Before I announce the latest Guess The Autograph, let's reveal the last one I posted....

Dion Lewis. How many of you got it right.....

Once A Cub
Grady M
Kin
HudsonFan15
Dion's IP Autos Only

All of you got that one right! If you can guess this weeks, I will put whoever guesses it right in next rounds post.

Now onto the next! Good luck!
Guess the autograph is as easy as it goes. I will throw up an autograph "swatch" and you guys have to simply guess whose autograph it is. There are no prizes involved, it's just for fun to test your autograph knowledge and give you bragging rights.

The autographs will spread across multiple sports and non sports so it should be fun to see the challenge it presents and see how many of you can correctly guess it. If you really want to take it a step further, try guessing the brand of card as well.

I will reveal the "answer card" and the autograph in the next post of this series.

So here is the next autograph to this series,

Can you guess it? Good luck.

Let me know in comments!

Missing Press Pass

It's been a few years since we heard the sad news that Press Pass was closing it's doors forever. It was from a company that made many sport and non-sport cards since the late 90's.

When I got this awesome card I won from a contest with Dub Mentality blog,
it reminded me of how great Press Pass truly was. I know this card doesn't have logos but just look at it. It's one great looking card. Press Pass I thought always did their best with designs and unique products especially for NASCAR. I liked their earlier NCAA football ones before that license got taken away.

A big thanks goes out to Dub Mentality for my first Landry auto. I have been wanting his for some time now. If you haven't checked out his blog yet, please do so!

Hook 'Em Ross

I am a bit behind on some posts but I can't let some just slip under the rug. Like this sweet contest win I got over at Sports Card Info blog.

I won this 2007 Press Pass Legends All Conference Red Ink Auto #’ed/285 of former Giants CB, Aaron Ross. Ross was Drafted 20th overall in the 2007 draft and was on the Super Bowl winning 42 and 46 teams.

After winning the Super Bowl with the Giants in 46, he signed a decent contract with the Jaguars but his career never really got very far after leaving NY. Injuries took a toll.

But, I am excited to add my first Ross auto to the Giants PC. Especially since he was there during the two Super Bowl runs.

A big thanks goes out to Sports Card Info on the contest win mail day and if you haven't checked him out yet, please do so. Weekly contest, reviews and other fun segments.

Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 7:Swirly Brock

October has officially been named, Cards I Got From Project Pedro Blog Month.

For a few years now I have kicked myself for trading away a Topps Chrome Black Refractor Rookie autograph of Brock Osweiler as I had a feeling he had a future ahead of him. So, how do I make myself feel a tad better, acquiring an autograph to fill the need.

Even if the guy doesn't pan out, I still like his swirly signature.

Thoughts on today's card is welcomed!

NETted Some Goods:Trade With JBF Blog

For the third time, I pulled off another trade with Jaybarkerfans Junk blog who was hosting a trade-a-thon where he was trading stuff in return for mail days to open on his vacation. A concept I had never thought of. Can you imagine spending the week busting open packages????? Boo yah!

Before I continue on with this post, in case you missed my first two epic trades with him, here they are:

AWESOME Trade With Jaybarkerfan's Blog

Incredible Upper Deck Trade Mail Day From JBF

This trade filled a few more wants in my collection. Not particularly ones off my Want List, but ones I have had my eye on.

Like one of these. I have always wanted one, I didn't care which team, I just thought they looked cool. They were even cooler in person and very heavy.

This caught my eye. It's unique and something the hobby has only seen once. Not to mention how often do you see jeans being used as a relic???!!

Then came the big nets. Net Fusion cards from two different brands but of both Indians Manny Ramirez and

Roberto Alomar.
I think the Net Fusions are pretty awesome and these are the first baseball ones I have.

Overall, a pretty solid mail day. I am already looking forward to the next as we worked out yet another deal so stay tuned for that post. There are some pretty cool things on the way!

Thanks again to Jaybarkerfans Junk blog for the great trade. If you haven't yet, go check out his blog as he has been in the blogging circuit for awhile now.

Breakin Wax:2014 Press Pass Football/Press Pass GameDay Gallery Duo Blaster Break

In my search for more Odell Beckham Jr and to bust Press Pass one last time, I found two blaster boxes on sale over at Steel City Sports Cards online and took advantage.

First up was the flagship football product. 1 Rookie auto per blaster.

Here was my best base card player from the box. Not too shabby.

Blue parallels including Cincy running back Jeremy Hill

My autograph from the box. On-card auto of WR T.J. Jones who plays for the Detroit Lions.

Now onto the blaster break GameDay Gallery. This as well has 1 auto in the blaster.

And here it is! Yeah, I skipped the base this time. Once again I get the nice pull, just not the good player. This is a Target Exclusive Red Level autograph of Tajh Boyd numbered 8/10. This guy just keeps popping up in my boxes like Ha-Ha Clinton Dix. Least I know someone who may be interested in Boyd if I want to trade it. But, with his recent contract with Pittsburgh I am not sure about moving it now.
Overall, not bad breaks. They were both under $7 a blaster and pulling the Boyd, despite it being Boyd, was still a nice pull for retail.

Random Card Of The Week: 2014 Press Pass American Thunder Brothers In Arms Triple Memorabilia Card

I don't watch racing anymore, but the cards are still really fun to collect. Racing cards are the only sport where pretty much every card you pull a memorabilia of is a multicolor swatch. Then you throw in the many forms of memorabilia Press Pass uses and you have a big winner!

This card I pulled earlier this year. It is numbered to 50 with multicolor sheet metal swatches for each driver.

Review: 2014 Press Pass American Thunder

American Thunder is a NEW NASCAR product from Press Pass and just like all of their NASCAR products, this one is just as impressive and hopefully will stay apart of the yearly product go around.

Now onto the review:

BOX BREAK DOWN:
  • 20 Packs Per Box, 5 Cards Per Pack
  • One Autograph and Two Memorabilia Cards Per Box
  • One Parallel numbered to 50 or less Per Box
PRICE: You can find most boxes under $90

BASE CARDS: I really like the base cards in American Thunder. The player pose such as Kenseth's above I think is the best way to go in a NASCAR product. I am usually one for action shots but with this sport, it's best to see the drivers. They also included all 8 rookies in this product including the red hot rookie I Pulled above of Kyle Larson.

The subset card of Brother's In Arms that features all of the drivers from a team going into "battle" to win a championship is a cool concept and the design with the American flag in the background looks tremendous.

I also liked that Press Pass gave a shout out to the truck drivers who bring the cars to the race on a weekly basis in the Convoy subset and the layout design of that one is top notch.

INSERTS: In a box of American Thunder, you get a handful of inserts with one parallel guaranteed to be numbered to 50 or less. I think the parallels look nice and I am glad that Press Pass stuck to what they do best with their inserts and make them foil board.

Some of the fun inserts include Richard Petty "50th Anniversary of First Daytona 500 Win"and the 2014 NASCAR Hall of Fame Class Insert!

AUTOGRAPHED CARDS: Pretty decent low numbered hit here. The design is simple and is well balanced. However, I was surprised to see sticker inserts when Press Pass is normally known for their "on card" marketing for their products. However, still a nice looking card as on-card or not doesn't bother me.

Along with American Thunder autos, you can also find Brothers In Arms Autographs with Teammate Autograph Cards 3 & 4 Driver Teams are double sided and Richard Petty's 50th Anniversary of First Daytona 500 Win Autos

MEMORABILIA CARDS:  .Just stunning. The layout, design and driver combinations are top notch. The fun of NASCAR cards along with designs are the colorful pieces you can get from the many choices of memorabilia. Press Pass knows exactly how to use those pieces and turn them into a beautiful work of art!

The only problem I had here was the fact that a triple memorabilia card has the same exact numbering as a two piece. I think the double should stay at 50 however a triple should be numbered to 25 and not be the same. Something for Press Pass to think about in the future.

Along with the Brothers In Arms memorabilia, you can also find, Battle Armor that has Race-Used Sheet Metal, Class Uniform that contains a sweet 1 of 1 American Flag Firesuit Patched, a Great American Treads with Race-Used Daytona 500 Tires and finally Class A Uniform: Race-Used & Driver-Worn Memorabilia.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:  Another solid NASCAR release from Press Pass that should have card collecting fans from any sport excited. The price point and what I got in this particular box may be a little uneven, but overall there are many big hits to find so not all boxes will be like this one.
