Random Cardboard Of The Day: 2010 Topps Platinum Tim Tebow

Player HITlights:Damontre Moore

 

The Giants have always been built on defense. 

So nobody is surprised when they go into the draft and draft defense especially in the trenches.

Sometimes they find that gem in the rough, other times, not so much. 

Damontre Moore was a 3rd pick of the Giants in the 2013 NFL Draft. He didn't have much success with the Gmen and caused multiple altercations with teammates especially in the 2015 season which led to him being placed on waivers where the Dolphins snagged him.

He was bounced around a few teams and even joined the AAF league not finding success anywhere he went which is upsetting for a guy who had high expectations as a First Team All-American from Texas A&M.

I grabbed quite a few of his cards, especially autographs, in 2013 with high expectations.

At least when it comes to players on your favorite team, "prospecting" doesn't always have to be a homerun.

As the saying goes, "Once a Giant, Always A Giant"

Moore has accumulated 88 tackles and 10 sacks in his career.

Player HITlights: Owamagbe Odighizuwa

Today's featured Player HITlight has a really tough name to spell out without having a card next to you to type it off from.

Owamagbe Odighizuwa, okay I cheated this time and copied and pasted the name from my post title, was a third round pick of the Giants in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was supposed to be that missing pass rushing piece the Giants needed after losing Osi, Tuck and Strahan years prior and was to pair up with JPP.

Well, like a lot of draft picks during that time for the Giants he didn't quite pan out. Injuries took up his rookie season and in 2017 he got caught with PED's by the NFL and shortly after was released by the Giants.

He signed with the Bills in 2018 but didn't last more than a few months of the offseason there.

His NFL career ended with 6 total tackles.

I collected quite a few of his cards and was sent some from other collectors as well,

Giants Cardboard: Eli's Gaining Momentum

As the year creeps closer to the end, I have looked back on my collecting habits and how much they have changed all year long.

First it was hot rookies, then non sport cards, then it was Allan Houston, then it was Kerry Collins then it was 90's inserts again, then Patrick Mahomes cards, then Lamar Jackson cards, then Christmas cards, then Russell Wilson cards, then Mosaic cards, then shiny cards and so on and so forth. There was no straight focus and my collecting habits must look like someone with a bad case of ADHD.

Maybe I should rename this blog, ADHD collector.

Regardless how crazy I must look, there has been one constant throughout my collecting and that is the NY Giants. I have never gone off topic with them. I simply collect all that I don't have regardless of how long the player has been on the team. If they made it even one game, I would take them as long as they are wearing Giants blue or have affiliation of so.

But, that doesn't mean some players I don't prefer more than others.

Take Eli Manning for example. I always talk about Rodney Hampton on here... a lot, but deep down inside my favorite NY Giant of all time is Eli. Rodney is a very-very close second or a 1B in this case.

Eli brought out tons of emotions which you can tell a lot by his "Eli Face".

I felt for him being an underdog but that also made me root him on harder being one myself. He won two Super Bowls for my team against the team I despise most. He was a two time Super Bowl MVP. He went to Pro Bowler. He was a leader on and off the field and handled NY media the way you need to. I couldn't have asked to had watched a better player to play the toughest position in football in the toughest city to play football.

I appreciated everything he did for my Giants and can't wait to see him as a first ballot Hall Of Famer. Yeah I said it.

He marks my second highest Giant in total cards and I hope to be gaining more over the next few weeks. Eli has moved up as my second most sought after player right now behind Rodney Hampton.

Before closing I wanted to show off another card I snagged, quite cheaply at $4 by the way and even less using the code, was this Darius Slayton auto.

Slayton is one of the up and coming WR's in this league when the Giants have time to throw to him. I look forward to seeing him more next year.

We have finally got this down to the final two posts of this epic mail day. Today's post features the rest of the shiny-stuff.

These Cooperstown cracked ice look amazing. Even got Gehrig and Robinson!

 

And I finish this up with some Platinum.

 

 

Only one more post to go. I would say that I saved the best for last, but there was way too much good stuff in here to make that statement. So, I saved the hits for last that also includes a 1/1!

REVIEW:June 2016 Football Loot Locker (2 HITS!)

After seeing much success with May's football Loot Lockers (you can check out the hits for May HERE and see among them a Todd Gurley Patch auto), I decided I wanted to dig into a football one to see if I could get as lucky as those collectors.

Well, let's just say, I ended up pretty happy with my results.

 

If you haven't seen a Loot Locker in your mail box, here is what they look like...

 

You open it up and find this that contains 4-6 hobby packs, comes in a 400ct reusable box and also comes with some penny sleeves/toploaders. You can either just order one when you can afford to or subscribe and get them delivered monthly. The choice is yours. 

Below is an example of what you may find in a football one. The Loot Lockers also come in Basketball, baseball and Hockey.

 

Each month the hobby pack offerings are different because they are voted on by fans who follow The Loot Locker on Twitter. At the beginning of a new month, The Loot Locker has you narrow a list down to the Top 3 pack choices and that will be the offerings for that month. They do this for each sport every month.

So let's get to crackin my second Loot Locker, if you missed my first which was a baseball one you can see that HERE.

This was my 4 pack selection. Two 2015 Panini Contenders football, one 2015 Topps Platinum and one 2016 Panini Classics. Some good products.

Inside of my 2016 Classics, I didn't pull a hit, but did get an Odell Beckham Jr. insert (PC pull) and a Marshawn Lynch parallel /99.

 

My two Contenders Packs landed me an autograph.

 

And my Topps Platinum pack landed me a parallel, rookie card and an

 

autograph! This one is numbered to 150 and is a blue parallel.

 

Overall, can't go wrong with 2 hits in 4 packs. My football locker was much more exciting then my baseball locker was. But, I have seen hits across the board for all of the sports which if you clicked the link above you would have seen too.

Solid pack selection, delivered to your house, decent price (I have added up the price per pack and those alone come to a little over $20) and freebies in some toploaders, penny sleeves and candy and I can see why Loot Lockers are becoming a household name in the hobby.

 

And yes, I said candy. 

 

You really can't go wrong with one of these and if you don't have a hobby shop like me, you will get it even more.

A Platinum Addition To My Andre Williams PC

What a rough weekend of football that was for me. I ended up with only 6-8 games right in my NFL Pick 'Em leagues, I lost my first week of Fantasy football in the league I created, and my NY Giants LOST against Dallas. I put lost in big letters cause that's exactly what they did. Dallas didn't win that game, the Giants once again found a way to let Romo beat them for the fifth game in a row. What I still won't get is why they didn't either let Jennings score or run on that third down. I think the game had a different outcome if so.

Enough with my rant, that could have gone on for awhile.

It had been awhile since I had last added a Andre Williams card/autograph to the PC so I had to break that streak....for $1.99.

I couldn't go wrong paying that for a rainbow shining on-card autograph. Though Williams didn't have a big game on Sunday or make any impact, 6 carries for 14 yards, I still think the ceiling is high for him and with enough opportunity he will make an impact.

At least this card brings a bit more cheer to what was that rough weekend. Here's to a better Week 2!

A Very Grady Mail Day Part 4 0f 4: SHINY STUFF!!!

I think the title says it all....OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH SHINY STUFF!

There is just something about shiny stuff in this hobby that attracts me like a moth to a light bulb. It has been that way for years. It doesn't matter the player, team, sport or product. Shiny stuff just straight up rules in my collection. A lot of the time I would take shiny stuff over hits. The only exception to that rule is if the hit is also shiny stuff. Oooooooo.

Now that I have shown my love for shiny stuff, it's time to show off the final part of my mail day.

I hadn't seen any of these up close yet. Pretty cool. My pictures don't showcase the rainbow refractor goodness these present.

I love Crusade inserts. I wished Panini would release this as a straight up product.

Bowman Platinum is one of my favorite releases.

Topps Chrome is the main fault for my shiny addiction. It got me hooked in 1996.

The Bowman flashback inserts with the sparkle look incredible.

And who can forget Prizm? Some great Camo inserts here with two for the Yankees PC with CC and the Grandyman.

Basketball Prizm parallels. The Green Karl Malone is pretty sweet. I enjoyed watching the "Mailman" deliver in the 90's.

 

To finish up this mail day, some Prizm hockey green and blue Prizms or as I call them, refractors.

Overall, another top notch Grady mail day.

A big thanks goes out to Grady for this mail day as I really enjoyed digging through what I consider is a treasure box. I hope you enjoyed the one I mailed you as well. I have begun saving stuff out for you again and hopefully in the next month or so can have another ready for ya!

When One Became Two

After winning an eBay auction, I usually pay pretty fast and usually the person on the other end ships the next day. So when I had won an auction for an auto/patch of Andre Williams and saw no shipping updates after almost a week, I became concerned.

I asked around for opinions on what to do and most said just leave it and wait. Something in my gut told me not to. So I stuck with my gut and contacted the seller. They responded the next day apologizing that they didn't realize the card had ended and promised to send an Odell rookie with the order. Well, they stuck with that promise.....

Here is the Andre Williams I won in that auction. Love the patch! Goes well with that one I traded for a few weeks back.

And the Odell Beckham rookie they promised, a Topps Strata. I did not have this one.

Overall a pretty solid mail day with a bonus. I am so glad I stuck to my gut and contacted them. It was also very nice of them to make it up by sending an extra, despite not having to. I wished other sellers were this nice when they mess up. But we are all humans, we all make mistakes.
