Kerry's Cardboard:1997 Donruss Preferred Stare Master

Welcome back to a NEW Kerry's Cardboard.

In my recent mail day from Burbank Sportcards Beckett Marketplace I made sure to grab quite a few of the Panthers and Giants legend to add to my collection. 

I also just found out he has Twitter I will be sure to tag him in :)

Today's card has all of the makings of greatness like the player on it. Shiny, creative and numbered from the 90's. These Stare Masters, not to be confused with Stair Masters, were randomly inserted in tins of 1997 Donruss Preferred.

The card front features Kerry staring at himself.

 

The back shows the card numbering to 1500 and a small writeup about Kerry's Pro Bowl year in 1996.

This was one of my favorite card adds in the mail day from Burbank.

Cards On Cards Strikes Again!

Another mail day from the great Cards On Cards arrived again that combined multiple freebie Friday's he was hosting.

I am such a slacker on here that I haven't sent anything back yet, but I have a list of mailings to make and Kerry is at the top of those to hit back with. I hope to do it this weekend (this was typed up on Saturday).

Any who, let's see what I claimed/he sent this time.

There were a bunch of these 1997 Donruss Preferred base cards and I couldn't let them just sit there. Heck, may try to build yet another set now that I have these. Gotta see what I have kicking around here to add to them and see where it goes.

I like unique cards with owners/coaches/cheerleaders that you don't see every day. This Joe Robbie fit the bill.

I don't know what it was, but this Payne Stewart was simply just needed to be with me. I will stick it in my special golf binder.

A new PC piece for my Ken Griffey Jr pc. I know I am not known as a Griffey Jr collector but I still have over 1,000 cards of the guy but he has fallen into the backseat of my collecting over the years. It's just too hard to collect a guy that so many do and compete with the prices his stuff goes for.

College Connections is just a great looking insert set. I have been wanting more since I added the Hampton one to my collection.

Collectin' Griffey:2015 Donruss Preferred

In 2015, Panini brought back Donruss Preferred in it's 2015 Donruss product.

However, it didn't have the same appeal as the 1998 version. The cards didn't have MLB logos and they didn't have the "fractured" appeal. This newer version also has many parallels.

I still think the design is pretty solid and the picture of Griffey is a good one. I just miss the original version having been a collector of it. But, it's still a Griffey and still fits in my PC. Now just gotta see if I can chase down the parallels.

 

What do you guys think when companies try to revive a former brand? Is it improved? Or can the original just not be beat?

Baseball Card Yard Sale Post FINALE!!! This One I PREFERRED To Save For Last

Well, here is another post to what will be many posts of me breaking down what I got at a Yard Sale that I posted about recently.As the saying goes, all good things come to an end. We all knew this had to. I saved my favorite part of the Yard Sale find for last. I saved the micro-etched shiny awesomeness for now. 1997 Donruss Preferred was one of my favorite products of the 90's. Not just because of the design, but because it came packed in a collectible. Each 5 card pack came inside of a tin with a featured player on the front. So not only did I chased the cards, but I chased the tins as well.

Alright, enough with my rambling. The moment has come for me to show what was in the final box in this yard sale lot. This was a mini white box with roughly 50 cards in it. All of which for a quarter. Let me know if you think I got my quarters worth here.

And finally came Platinum. I didn't get in this box, so click this LINK to eBay to see what those looked like. I can honestly say that I don't think I ever pulled one of those either.

Overall, pretty happy to finish up the yard sale lot like this. I am a 90's collector and was a big fan, as I said earlier, of this product. I am also very happy with all of the purchases. I think I got a great steal at $25 for the entire lot. This includes everything that I posted in this series.

I know it's going to be hard to swallow not having anymore of these Yard Sale posts to view. Just remember that I didn't buy all that they had. So, there could there be more to come next year from that yard sale if they have one. Time can only tell....and if there is...you guys will be invited to view along.

Donruss Preffered: Brand I miss!

I always loved the creativity of the 90's, this brand for example. Each pack of cards were packed inside this tin. Every tin had a different player on it so that alone you tried to collect. Which I did, but never did get all of them. They produced this product for both baseball and football.

The outside packaging was just as amazing as what it held inside. The cards had different tiers to collect as its base, bronze (common), silver (uncommon) and gold (rare). You could also have a shot at Precious Metals!

I wished this product could be revived. You never know with the incredible people at Panini could bring back since they have revived the Pinnacle brand and brought back Totally Certified.
