Twitch Sent Yanks!
What was a Panini card break tweet by Twitch Collects Cards blog turned very quickly into a trade and that one card trade escalated to a multi card trade.
So with a multi card post, this usually means a multi-post series and that's what you will find with this trade.
There were lots of cards sent from Twitch you won't see to help me shorten up this post series. But, I loved every bit of my first trade with him.
Today we focus on baseball addition. All new ones at that which isn't always an easy taks. Most of these are from older Topps Allen and Ginter which I really didn't get into until the last few years.
CC and Damon,
Jeter and Tex. Love the sketch renditions on these. The Tex celebrating around the bases is probably my favorite of the group.
Another new Tex, a Cano from a Bowman's Best brand I haven't seen and Austin Romine rookie from my favorite baseball card product.
My first WBC materials card and from one of my favorite products. I liked having Johnny Damon as a Yankee but when he was wearing that awful red he was one of my least favorite players.
My unique swatch PC got a couple of nice additions. One with this base swatch of Jason Giambi.
And a non Yankee one in Dewon Brazelton in which I get my first Fielding Glove card. I had no idea they made cards with those swatches and now I have one. Awesome!
This is just part one of this terrific mail day.

UD Masterpieces was also a great looking card line by Upper Deck. I would have liked to seen more. The older players look incredible. The Gehrig and especially the Babe Ruth are very eye appealing. It captures what the game is truly all about.

Giambit had some great seasons in NY. I just wished he hadn't been apart of the PED search in which another player I liked I had to turn on.

Four Sports Turn To Three
Well, here we go.
I have decided to make a few changes on here again. Gone are the segments. I just don't know what it is about them, I just don't like sticking to them and feeling limited on what I am writing about. At least if I do reviews and mail days I can let things flow freely and that's the way I feel most comfortable to write. It also gives me more room to write unlike the segments for Sets Of My Childhood which simply was a few paragraphs. I do still plan on chasing those sets still and you can find all of my needs under the Sets Of My Childhood needs tab but not previewing them anymore on here unless they are apart of a mail day.
Some other changes you may have noticed is updated tabs and a cleaner interface. Another change to come still is a new blog header. I am not sure if I will use the lettermen still to build it or start from scratch. But I felt some mid-season changes were needed.
Enough with me rambling on about change, lets get to the box of goods that P-Town of Waiting Til Next Year blog sent me.
The cards today will be apart of an ongoing showcase of his big card dump off where he had multiple boxes of cards to let go. Originally he had set aside just the non baseball stuff for me, but in one of his posts mentioned that maybe I would go for more. I at first questioned grabbing the Yankees, but thought I would get a bunch of doubles being from the era there were. As he posted that nobody had yet claimed the Yanks almost a week later, I felt it was a sign that they were still available for me to claim. So I did. I mean, it was free cards.
So not much longer after the claim, a monster of a box arrived full of a variety of cards from multiple sports.
Today I take a look at some Classic Four Sport Cards from 1992. I think these pre-draft cards are a fun set to look at and even have some big names within. There were 325 cards in the set to collect and boxes right now are pretty cheap for $15 each.
He sent a good 800ct box full so I will roughly just break down some of my favorites I found.
Phil Nevin was never really a big name, but he was a decent player who bounced around many organizations but I felt like I knew him most for the Tigers. Currently however, he wears pinstripes as the Yanks third base coach.
Jason Roidambi, sorry you all know how I feel about PED players, was a powerful hitter but had his reasons for being that. I liked his time with the Yankees but that * still stands over him in my opinion. Jason did manage 440 home runs for his career. 
Jon Lieber. Bet you haven't heard that name in some time. But, he was a decent pitcher who spread himself across many organizations but best known to me as a Cub despite his one season in pinstripes. Lieber was 131-124 in his career with a 4.27 ERA. 
THE CAP! Love the photograph on these and not at all complaining about owning two of Derek's pre-draft rookies. 
And we end baseball with a look at the Yankees greatest draft pick of all time.....(yes that's sarcasm). This card is only featured because the photo I found interesting in the set as most are action packed ones.
We take a look at some basketball player highlights next.
Christian Laettner will be best known for his time at Duke and his shot against Kentucky jn the 1992 Regional Final. Even though he did spend 13 years in the NBA. Go Duke! 
Dikembe is not only a fun name to say, but he was a well respected player in the NBA. Especially on defense where he dominated. He was easily one of the best shotblockers and defensive rebounders in the game's history. 
Latrell was a great player but mostly known for his controversy on and off the court which continues today. He usually is known for not choking on his shots, just choking his coach.In 1997, he had an incident in which he choked coach P. J. Carlesimo with his time with Golden State. He actually helped lead the Knicks to the NBA Finals against the Spurs in which they lost. This was the last time I watched an NBA game or series as the Knicks downfall started afterwards and only got uglier.
I didn't see a lot of highlights in hockey, so this four sport is turning to three as we end with my favorite sport, football.
Dave Brown. Any Giants fan knows how this guys career went. Down the interception tube. But, he was still in an era I enjoyed collecting so I still seek out Brown's cards. The 90's were a trying time after Phil Simms retired for Giant QB's as they went through multiple ones including the next guy who was even worse than Brown. 
Tommy Maddox. Guy played amazing for the Pittsburgh Steelers but was a complete waste of time in big blue. The guy won a Super Bowl ring even but only because he backed up Big Ben. He also played well for his time in the XFL which returns in 2020. It was terrible to watch the first time around, not sure what they will do to fix it the second time around. 
Keith Hamilton was the Hammer for the Giants defense in the 90's racking up 63 sacks in 163 games in big blue uni. 
And finally, Phillippi Sparks. It's like spelling Mississippi. Who is probably best known now for being Jordin Sparks dad. If you don't know Jordin, she won the 6th season of American Idol. But Sparks had some ups and downs with the Giants at corner.

Lonzo. Man he added to the Knicks and Heat rivalry of the late 90's . Thats when the NBA was at its beest. Now it's just full of crybabies, three good teams and a bunch of overpaid players.

Nuttin' But The Yankee Hits Part 2
Part 2 of my Yankee hits PC is a bit stronger than the first part.
A couple of sweet Giambi relics including a base swatch from the Ex line. Giambi falls under the same feelings I had for Clemens. 
I never felt Bernie Williams ever got enough respect for what he did for the Yankees in the league. I always respected him and enjoyed watching him play. These are my only two relics I have of him including once again another one of those base relics I pulled in a box. I just also realized I didn't post my autograph of him for this series. Oh well, another time. 
This card was actually a pretty tough pull back in the day when I pulled it. The International Connection Piece Of The Actions were much tougher than the base versions which is why this Posada had some added value to it. But, that's not why I liked it. It's my one and only Jorge hit in my collection. 
A couple of young Yanks who never quite panned out. Romine is a TTM I got from Dennis over at Too Many Verlanders. 
I know a lot find the Topps Holiday boxes another money grab, but I think it's a cool designed fun product. I like plain swatch relics a whole lot more on this design. Here is my only one like this with Pineda. 
Another one of my favorite Yankees was Soriano. I wished he could have stayed instead of having been traded off for A-roid. This is my only hit of him in a Yankees uni. I only consider my Yankees PC hits of players in pinstripes only. 
Drew Henson. Only good at college sports even though he tried both NFL and MLB. Still a cool card with a guy who did two sports. 
And the best Mickey Mantle card I have in my PC. Isn't that sad. I don't own a single vintage card or real hit of the Yankee great. 
Part 2 isn't the end of this Yankees hit showcase. Two more parts to go!

I used to pretend I was him in the backyard with my buddies when we played baseball. He was the ace of my staff. Then I found out he was part of the 'roid generation and Roger is no longer a favorite in my collection.

Giambi, Super Bowl, Facemask, Schneider And Footballs:A JBF Trade Mail Day
Recently I have had some amazing mail days through trades and it has actually put me a bit behind on posting them with other posts already scheduled to go. So, yes, I know I have the rest of my 90's Niche Football Card Blog mailings to show off, but I already have those to post next week. But, this trade mail day I have been sitting on a few days trying to figure out when to post it. Well, I am posting it now.
So, for the fourth time, I pulled off yet another trade with Jaybarkerfans Junk blog. He has been one great trader and has some nice stuff to trade. Others may not consider these nice, but in my world, they are. Sometimes it's simply not about the player on the card, it's about the card itself.
Before I continue on with this post, in case you missed my first three epic trades with him, here they are:
First up, one for the Yanks PC, a UD blue-striped jersey card of Jason Giambi.
Up next, one of the 90's PC. A Champ Bailey rookie Edge 1st Place Game Gear
Then we move on to this nice looking Thurman Thomas Classic Pigskin card. I didn't have any memorabilia of Thomas and since the game and football swatch featured on the card is a Giants winning Super Bowl game, it's a bonus :)
Facemask! Whatever happened to creativity like this? So many plain white swatches, not enough of this:
Speaking of creativity, look how sharp this card is! This is by far one of my favorite Freshman Fabric designs of all-time. This card is just beautiful in terms of color, then you look at the nice swatch of football and it just adds another dimension to it.
Finally, we end this mail day with a fellow collector....yes...Rob Schneider! I have been told he collects as well. I have always been a big fan of his movies so this was a no-brainer addition for me.
Another trade mail day from JBF in the books. I can't even pick a favorite card from the group as all are impressive in their own way.
Thanks again goes out to JBF for the trade and I hope you enjoy what I have been return mailing as well.

Jason Giambi Retired (Man Cave Piece Too)
After 20 years and 440 Home Runs in baseball, Jason Giambi has finally called it quits and will retire at age of 44.
I have mixed feelings about Jason. After his admission of steroid use from 2001-2003, I immediately jumped on the "cheater" and "dislike against him" and ruled any card I pulled of him thereafter useless. This comes after my excitement that the Yankees had brought him in and how much I enjoyed watching him club the ball with his nice swing. I became a fan and couldn't wait til his next at bat. But, all it takes for me to turn on a player is a steroid accusation. I did the same to Sosa, McGwire, Clemens and Bonds. I don't like cheating.
After he left the Yankees, a move in which I was quite excited about at the time, I didn't actually realize he was still kicking around til I saw a highlight a few years ago with him in a Rockies uni. I was like, really, Jason Giambi still plays? However, what I didn't realize was how he changed after his admission playing the role of a leader and father of a young Rockies clubhouse. He did the same after for the Indians. It was like having an extra coach. This came completely unexpected to me and a part of me wanted to forgive him for his steroid use. Not many players turn something so controversial into something meaningful afterwards. A big example of this is Alex Rodriguez who seems to like stirring that controversy pot more into a thick stew. I don't think he will ever mature and as a Yankees fan, a baseball fan and baseball card collector, I am not looking forward to him playing this year.
So, going back to Jason one more time. I still can't forgive him completely for his steroid use especially while playing for my team. Cheating is still cheating and the 200+ home runs he hit while playing as a Yankee in my opinion shouldn't count. But, I will say that I have gained a ton more respect for him after hearing about his life turning around with the Rockies and Indians and wish him the best after baseball.
As a small tribute and to show my gained respect for him, here is a piece that I have in the man cave that I traded for years ago. It contains a Classic baseball rookie along with a 2005 Donruss card and a 8x10 signed photo. It's a really nice piece that I will continue to leave hanging on my wall as a reminder that people do make mistakes, but if you own up to them like Jason did, you can still make a difference.

FORGOTTEN: 2004 Upper Deck Etchings Baseball
Here is our NEW segment on Sport Card Collectors. This segment is not about the players per say, its more about the cards and design. We will focus our efforts on bringing you brands you may have forgotten about over time. Sports for these products will include basketball, football and baseball products.
Each box contained on average 2 Rookies numbered to 2004, 3 Autographs with them being 1 rookie, 1 young star, and 1 star. Also it had 3 Game-Used Memorabilia Cards. Including like we mentioned above, bat pieces with a team logo etched into the bat piece. Was a very cool concept and design.
You ask what we mean by this..
At this time, can't find any pricing on boxes. But with 6 hits you have to assume its pushing over $100 even still now.
