Burbank Pickups Of The Month: July 2021 Edition

This NEW segment will capture most of my monthly pickups from Burbank Sportcards Beckett Marketplace, unless they are NY Giants ones or specific special cards and then you will have to check out Cards Over Coffee and Big Blue Cardboard to see those. I would suggest you follow those blogs in that case.

This month, I targeted some of my sets that need to finally be knocked down from the 90's.

Such as 1996 Pinnacle Pinnacle Power. This is one of my newer chases.

E-X2000 baseball, they only had 4 of the cards I needed of the 9 remaining. At least only 5 cards remain so I can finally complete it. I may try to tackle the EX-2001 next month.

1995 Pinnacle Museum Collection football. This one is a big one to tackle, I am in no hurry.

However, I am in a bit more of a hurry to finally finish up this two year project in 1995 Summit Ground Zero. I finished grabbing the ones I needed on Burbank.

 

The final card was 1995 Summit Ground Zero Steve McNair which was one of the final two tough cards I needed. The other, I still need in Curtis Martin.

$1 Yard Sale Boxes Breakdown Part 4

I showed off a garbage bag containing some cards a couple weeks ago and said I would break down what was in there, well, here we go.

1 more post to go in this 5 part series for you will see what I found. Of course, I saved the best for last tomorrow.

Today, we still must continue on this time with a box of 1992 Fleer Ultra baseball

Inside the box, there were 4 big stacks of 1992 Fleer Ultra and to my surprise this time, some of the good players were actually in there. A good amount of them.

Here are some rookies. Well, not what I would call rookies but what the card companies call rookies. Yes, I am one of those collectors.

Moose! Not a real rookie or a true rookie as I call it, but still a nice find. The photos on these are really sharp and crystal clear. Something just like Stadium Club was known for.

Ripken Jr! Found 3.

And a bunch of other stars from Jeff Bagwell to Craig Biggio to John Smoltz to Greg Maddux

 

Overall, the best $1 box so far. But, I still saved the best for last so guess you will have to comeback tomorrow and see.

1997 Upper Deck UD3 Baseball Pack # 12 (INSERT PULL!!!)

It took til pack #12, but we finally have an insert sighting. I wished the rest of the pack was solid to build around it as I added two more doubles which doesn't help my set, but just happy to see an insert finally.

 

Generation Next of Jermaine Dye. These fall 1:11 packs and are basically designed with the foil they used for the Pro Motion base card. This card also took place of my Homerun Heroes base. Not a bad looking card and not a bad player though I preferred to see the Jeter version.

1997 Upper Deck UD3 Baseball Pack # 10

Pack #10 helped add some more cards to my base set. With these, I am now halfway there with 30/60 cards.

Today's pack was ok. I think by far Jeff Bagwell was the star of the group but once again photo placement and use on these cards were well done. That alone makes me smile especially on these Homerun Heroes base. I would have loved a set alone with these.

Favorite 1990's Baseball Inserts

Welcome to 90's insert weekend here at Sport Card Collectors! Today, we move onto the MLB Inserts. We picked out some of our favorites.However, it would be completely impossible to cover them all. Remember, that these cards are not about the player or team on the card. It's all about the card itself.

Take a minute to ponder through these. Try not to drool on your keyboard as you eye gaze through this amazing spectacle.

I am a fan of Slides in cards. Just gives the cards that extra something.

A great concept. You can flip through the years and stats by turning a knob on the side

Very cool. You open it up like a book. Guess it's what you consider an early booklet card

Chrome, refractor, great design, Bazinga!

You would think Team Timber would be a thick cardboard, but its very thin and will curl without Top Loader. Almost has a wood feeling to it.

Really miss this Donruss baseball products, that's why I wished Panini would get an MLB License for cards like this

Spx Silver parallel..the design on the card alone is epic. Adding silver or gold, Epic. It also has me singing the song from Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer movie..Silver and Gold, Silver and Gold...

Throwback appeal and makes you think of Austin Powers...

Die Cut, Chrome, Refractor..may I need to say more?

The past three posts took us right down memory lane. We hope it did the same for you for those of us who grew up in 90's insert collecting era. As for anyone else, who grew up before or after this era, we hoped you enjoyed. If only baseball inserts looked like this again. We might be more tempted to get back into collecting baseball cards full time again. 

And it's not just because these were designed so well compared to now-a-days either, these cards also fell at a harder rate driving up their values and made them worth looking for in a pack. They weren't one per pack valued at $2 or less. These were more like one in every seventy-two packs valued at $20 or more.

Looking at inserts like these and what is offered today, there is a HUGE difference. And it's not for the best. Companies were much more creative and put forth more of an effort for 90's inserts. If only they could dip back into the past. It may help the state of the hobby. Not everything is about jersey or autographs.
