7 Day Trading Card Challenge Day 6:Favorite Non Sport Card

My buddy Tim over at Cardpocalypse, has created a 7 day Trading Card Challenge which has taken the blogosphere by storm.

There is a good variety of topics to cover throughout the challenge so are you up for the challenge? I am.

So let's take a look at Day 6 of the challenge. Favorite non sport card. Man, I could have gone 100 ways with this one as my non sport collection has really grown over the past couple of years. I love adding autographs of my favorite actors and actresses and singers.

But, I will go with cards from a newest non sport chase, my Chevy Chase chase. That doesn't sound right but it's true.

I already showed off my dual relic of Chase and Murray, but there are a couple more I added as well

How about this 6 piece one with lots of super star power from the 70s including one of my wife's used to be crushes in Robert Redford.

Or this 8 piece relic with many legends of comedy all on one card. This one is also a parallel numbered to 25. I had to really talk the seller down on this one and after much back and forth, we agreed on a middle number.

Once again, I am a tad disappointed they didn't use a small face image with the relics when they use most of these people in other parts of the product as actual images.

I am not sure if this is the end of the road with this PC or if I will seek others out. There is still plenty more different ones of these to chase.

A TBBT #BatmanDay Mail Day

As most readers of this blog know, I am a fan of non-sport cards and ones that are especially unique. But, you also combine that with something I am a fan of, I am then completely intrigued.

The following card I got in the mail this week and one that I saved specifically to show off today, otherwise known as #BatmanDay, combines many of these things and more.

Before I show the card, let's do a small breakdown of why it's a great card to me.

First off, I have watched every episode of The Big Bang Theory and pretty much own every season. I already have the upcoming season DVR'd to go. The humor of the show and the nerd in me loves it. Also doesn't hurt that Kaley Cuoco is on the show either (if my wife reads this I apologize in advance).

Secondly, I am a huge Batman fan. Loved the original series on TV and have seen every movie except Batman vs Superman (hopefully soon even though I still question Ben Affleck as Batman).

Third, as I stated above, I am a fan and collect non-sports cards and especially unique ones. Cryptozoic has put out some pretty sweet cards with props from the shows which makes those key ones to chase.

When you combine all of those things together, I am sure there are many other reasons too, you have a mail day of epic proportions.

 

I mean just look at it.....

 

 

This is an authentic prop puzzle piece of Jigsaw puzzle Kaley, I mean Penny attempted to put together on the show. And if you look closer at the piece, it's what we would call in the sport card world a "Batman swatch". So looking at the overall picture (not just Kaley), this is a big winner to me.

I haven't even gotten to the best part yet, I WON this card off from Twitter! So I strongly suggest you go follow @georgenadeau (who is the developer of licensed collectibles for Cryptozoic of multiple brands)so you can attempt to win cards like this and others. He gives so many away a week and some pretty epic pieces like the one above. Not to mention, previews a ton of upcoming products so you can be ready to buy.

REVIEW:Cryptozoic The Walking Dead Season 4 Part 2 (GIVEAWAY)

A couple of months ago, I reviewed The Walking Dead Season 4 Part 1 and mentioned a second release would soon be on the way, well, here it is.

I must note also, this is the final release of The Walking Dead cards from Cryptozoic as Topps snuck the license away to produce the cards going forward. So that will be interesting.

Now onto the break/review.

In every box of 2016 Cryptozoic The Walking Dead Season 4 Part 2, you get 24 packs with 5 cards per pack. There should be one wardrobe and one on-card autograph per box and boxes run around $90. I must also note, this price may seem high but after the Season 4 Part 1 release, those box prices jumped up to almost $150 from some places. I am not sure why, but I say jump on this price early if you can do so.

 

The base set design is a nice one with full color photography that captures even more images from season 4 and should sum up the rest of the set from Part 1 of the product.

There are 72 cards in a base set and you should complete that set in one box.

Now onto the inserts. This was a bit odd for a Cryptozoic product, I didn't complete my insert sets. There was 1 card missing in each set. Usually, boxes come with full base and insert sets so this was a bit disappointing to me.

Characters fall 1:3 packs. These are the next 9 in the set.

Posters fall 1:6 packs. I love the look of these as it captures the epic detail and excitement from the show.

And they have puzzle cards as well, for some reason my computer decided not to upload it. But, I was missing a piece or two from it so I guess there wasn't the full fun shot to show.

Something that Part 1 didn't have but Part 2 does, is parallel cards. There is Black Foil Stamp that falls 1:5 packs, Silver Foil Stamp like the one below that falls 1:55 packs, Gold Foil Stamp also below and numbered to 25 below that falls at  1:218 packs and of course Printing Plates that fall 1:754 packs.

 

Now onto my hits.

Once again, I was a bit surprised by my hits. It is usually one wardrobe or prop card per box, but what ends up happening in my previous history of busting Cryptozoic products is that if you pull a prop you still get a wardrobe. But not in this box.

However, the autographs are still on-card. Not something I am sure Topps can match. But, maybe.

 

And my other pull, REALLY COOL BY THE WAY, a wine bottle prop card! Which I would still rather pull than a wardrobe card.

 

 

You can also find Sketch cards that fall 1:700 packs.

 

Overall, I felt this box was a bit downed compared to my Part 1 break. You still get the base set, but not being able to complete the insert sets was a bit saddening and takes some of the value away. And I guess my expectation of a third hit in the box was lingering as well just knowing my past history of breaking their products.

But, other than that, the cards look really nice, the props they used for the prop cards are outstanding, the wardrobe cards are cool with muli-color pieces, and on-card autographs.

So if you are a fan of The Walking Dead, I still say go pick yourself up a box and sink your teeth into some packs. It won't hurt and you never know what you will find.
