REVIEW:2017 Panini Select Football

Select football has changed a lot since I collected it in the 90's. Back then it was simple cardboard, now it's been chromed up and prizmd and packed full of autographs, shiny parallels and wacky memorabilia cards.

I have enjoyed this product in the past and know it can come with some really nice hits. Out of all of the Panini breaks I have done recently, I saved the best for last.

Let's check it out.

In each box of 2017 Panini Select football, you will find 12 packs with 5 cards per pack. There will be three hits which include 2 autographs and 1 memorabilia card. You will also find 14 parallels with 5 of those being numbered. Boxes are currently running $149.

The base set is a tricky one being triple tiered. Concourse the Jay Ajai is 30 cards per box while the Premier Level of Hopkins fall 10 per box and the Field Level of Cam Newton fall 1:6 packs or four per box. This is a bit fun and challenging to collect it all.

The overall level base set includes players from the past, present and future.

Here is an example of the level design difference in rookies. I pulled both of these Hunt versions.

There are plenty of parallels to find in the product. Each level has their own. Crazy, crazy!!!

Concourse parallels you can find, Tri-Color /199, Blue /149, Maroon /99, Orange /49, Tie-Dye /25, Pink /10, Gold /10, Green /5, and Black 1/1.
Premier Level Parallels: Silver, Tri-Color /149, Light Blue Die-Cut /99, Purple Die-Cut /75, Neon Green Die-Cut /49, Tie-Dye Die-Cut /25, Gold Die-Cut /10, Green Die-Cut /5, Pink Die-Cut /4, and Black Die-Cut 1/1.
Field Level parallels: Silver, Tri-Color /99, Copper /75, Tie-Dye /25, Gold /10, Green /5, Pink 1/1, and Black 1/1.

Silver

Peppers in the tougher tier for silver

Mitch Trib and Derek Carr.

Tri Color:

Another Jones this time Maroon /99

Bryant Orange /49

Rodgers copper /75

Wilson Purple die cut /75

Now onto the hits!

Rookie Signature autograph swatch of Kenny G again. He seems to be a common find in 2017. These have parallels of Purple /49 (below), Tie-Dye /25, Gold /10, Green /5, and Black 1/1.

Jumbo swatch rookie signatures. Pretty nice pull of Mcaffrey here and is my first auto find of his. These have parallels as well, Copper /49, Tie-Dye /25, Gold /10, Green /5, and Black 1/1.

However, despite how nice this card is, look at the swatch that doesn't fill in the square. I asked Panini CSM about it and they said there is nothing they can do. Said they could try and restretch it to fit but I figure why bother. Especially since they said it's so small of an area they didn't see any devalue on the card.

And the final hit of the box, sick, sick patch numbered 2/5 of Carlos Hyde! These have parallels of Gold /10, Green /5, Black Laundry Nike Swoosh 1/1, Black NFL Player's Logo 1/1, and Black NFL Shield 1/1

Other hits in here but not in my box include,
  • 2018 XRC Prizm Redemptions
  • 2018 XRC Mystery Autograph Prizm Redemption
  • Signatures Prizm Set
  • Rookie Signatures Prizm
  • Signature Memorabilia Prizm
  • Rookie Signature Memorabilia Prizm
  • Jumbo Rookie Swatch Prizm
  • Prime Selections Prizm Prime Signatures
  • Select Swatches
  • Award Winning Autographs Continuation.
OVERALL: I loved this break. I enjoyed the designs, appeal and memorabilia in the product. I felt there was also a lot of value in this box break vs others I have done. Of course I have always felt that products that are chromed have the best value whether it's retail or hobby.

Once again, I always put this in my reviews, but remember not all boxes are created equal. Mine was a fairly decent break but it doesn't mean they all will be. There is always that risk factor when breaking hobby boxes. If you don't want to take such a risk, that's when box breakers come in handy. Go jump in on a break of it instead.

You can find the checklist for 2017 Select Football, HERE.

Most of the hits, if not all, from this break will be given away for #SCC6YR celebration. Please, please tell Panini America and Tracy Hackler thanks for the shot at these cards. Without their support with these reviews giveaways wouldn't be possible. Check them out at Panini America website and all social media sites.

Breakin Wax:2014 Absolute Football Hobby Box (Great Pull)

In 2014, I busted two of these bad boys and really did well. So a third was not out of the question.

How did this round go, well, to tell you right off, I want a fourth. Let's see why!

In every box of 2014 Absolute Football is 10 cards. Half of those cards are hits with 3 being jersey and 2 being autographed. Each box will run you $60.
Here is the one and lonely base card. Mr. Flacco.

Spectrum Parallel numbered to 99.

Hogg Heaven insert and a quad insert featuring Peyton Manning and D-Train.

Hogg Wild parallel. 7/10, can't go wrong there. RG3, could have done better but not too shabby.

Jimmmmmmmmmmyy. My first anything of his.

Brandon Coleman auto rookie.

Tools Of The Trade look top notch. One of my favorite memorabilia cards in 2014 and even now. Great layout, design and swatches.

Especially when you get a rarer one like this Hyde. This SICK is the prime parallel numbered to 15. I ABSOLUTELY love this card.

And to top the box off even more, a Gale Sayers auto.

Overall, great break. I felt I got my money worth and really want more. Three for three in terms of value and now the price is less than half off so a fourth and possibly a fifth down the road is not out of the question.

Breakin Wax:2014 Sage Hit Low Series Football (NICE PULL)

Sage Hit not normally a product I buy hobby of as it's usually a retail buy for me, but with a price under $30 and 8 autographs, how could I not gamble a bit.

In every box of 2014 Sage Hit, you will get 30 packs with 4 cards per pack. There are 8 autographs per box with a box on average carrying a price of $40. I found mine on sale for $29.

Here are the silver parallels I found. Bridgewater and Bortles led the group!

Gold parallels, Write STuff, ROY, and Artistry insert. All pretty nice with the rainbow foil involved.

Start of the autographs. Not too many big names here...

Things get better here with Hyde, Thomas and former NY Giant Xavier Grimble (the Grimble is good to me for that reason)

But things got explosive when I found this Teddy in my box /100!!!!
Overall, I obviously rocked this box out for the price I paid. The Teddy looks even better in person. I haven't had the chance to look at the base cards closely, but I have been told that U.S. Presidents had photobombed some and if you find all of them you win an autograph set. I think it would be cool just to find one. I will let you know if I do.

Now I gotta ask, how many of you buy Sage products? Your thoughts on them? Let me hear it all!

Breakin Wax:2014 Panini Rookies And Stars Football

When you find a deal, you gotta jump on it or you will regret it. So when I found a box of 2014 Rookies and Stars with a chance at Odell Beckham among other big time rookies in that class for under $33, I said yes. So here is how I did....

In every box of 2014 Panini Rookies and Stars is 25 packs with 8 cards per pack. You will find four hits per box with a mix of inserts as well. Boxes on average run you around $40.

I skipped the base and went for my best rookies this time. Photo variation of Watkins and an Odell rookie!

Tons of inserts. This group has ODELL!

Pulled a Drew Brees Base Longevity Holo Foil Numbered to 99

CRUSADES! Man I love these! Panini should just do a football set all with these.

Sorry for a sideways photo, but a nice Tom Brady Crusade purple parallel numbered to 49. Has a good book value too.

Rookie Crusades....ODELL!!!

Two jersey cards. Both aren't too shabby.

Wished Hyde hadn't gotten hurt, but at least we know who will be in SF's backfield for awhile.

And it seems every box of 2014 I opened, West was there. I can't believe it. I must have at least 8 of his autographed rookies. Maybe a player I should PC. I would be fine with it if he was talented. But being cut by the Browns is never a good sign.
Overall, the Odell inserts may have saved this break along with the big hit of the box the Tom Brady Crusade. I think I still got decent book value for what I paid so I am still pleased.
